Some of these suggestions make me cringe. Do they really pump you up?

Some of the other songs are awesome but the problem is they aren't the most popular songs. ND only gets to play like a 10 sec clip that must instantly resonate with the crowd to get them to stand and cheer.

Irish Nuke-Walk by Pantera was played so damn loud in our high school locker room. I am not a huge heavy metal rock guy but for some reason on Fridays at 6:45 I didn't want to hear anything else.

It makes you want to hit somebody. I know the Anaheim Ducks play it every time a fight breaks out during their games. I would guess that they're not alone in this.

Is it trolling if I forget italics? :)

Haha. So I tried to think of a good hip hop song and about the only thing I could come up with that did not have completely over the top lyrics was Three Six Mafia Side 2 Side. Maybe 2-Pac I'm a Soldier.

Also, there's a bunch of Metallica songs from Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and the Black album.

If'n we're going to "shake down the thunder", then Thunderstruck, by AC/DC, makes logical sense?

I must have missed something...... you can't just copy and paste the embed code from youtube here anymore?

My college team was the Thunder. I have heard this song so many times, but it just says Football to me now.

For those on the thunderstruck train, we've been playing that in the stadium for a while now.

For those on the crazy train... well... I think this is the first game that I can say I am super excited to hear that magical "ALL ABOARD" blare from the speakers once again.

Any song that takes the place of listening to the band play "Rumor has it" by Adele!

Was so embarrassed sitting next to Miami fans when they played that...they all kinda looked at me and made comments and how lame it was. I could only agree...and then, to top it, they played Call Me, Maybe :uberfacepalm:

I'd enjoy hearing the "Superman" Theme by John Williams from the marching band's horn section...

I feel like nearly everything said so far on here is based around a faulty line of reasoning - that the purpose of blasting this music in is to get the team pumped up. If ND players need music piped in over the speaker system to get pumped up to play in front of 80,000 people, we are totally screwed. The main goal of the songs should be to get the fans, specifically the student section, really, really loud. Most of the stuff mentioned so far, namely anything by Guns N Roses, ACDC, Black Sabbath, etc., does not resonate with the 18-22 year old upper middle class white kids who make up the vast majority of the ND student section. If you want to get the stadium really wild, you need songs that the student body knows the lyrics to and is willing to sing those lyrics along with the recording. For that, ND has to go to more of the classic pop route than the metal. Songs like Man In The Mirror (MJ), Take Me Home Tonight (Eddie Money), Jesse's Girl (Rick Springfield), and Livin On a Prayer (Bon Jovi) will do a lot more for the stadium atmosphere than overplayed classic metal tracks like Iron Man, Crazy Train, and Thunderstruck.

You're right, these would get the students to be louder... but where are you getting these songs from? Super random lol

And being a 21 year old upper middle class white kid, I can tell you that Man in the Mirror would be a bad idea (I know 9 words to this song that go something like "I've been looking at the man in the mirror" not to mention it's pretty slow, and everyone would just look at each other and be confused). And then I can almost guarantee that playing Take Me Home Tonight would result in the students going, "TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT!!! ... iii da da duh dum dum da duh duh ... morning light?"

You're on the right track (as can easily be seen and heard by Livin' on a Prayer when it's played), but these are random song choices.

I'm a current ND junior and I DJ every once in a while at one of the bars near campus. All the songs I listed are consistently among the most common requests I get while doing so which is why I listed those particular ones, but you're right they are really random. Does it matter though that lots of students don't know all of the words to these songs? We're getting like a 10 second clip, not a whole verse, and getting all 12,000 students screaming "Take me home tonight, I don't wanna let you go til you see the light" (I actually didn't have to Google that) seems like a step in the right direction at least.

That being said, anyone have ideas for songs more along these lines? Other hugely popular requests that I get are Rich Girl (Hall and Oates), Walking On Broken Glass (Annie Lennox), December 1963 (Frankie Valli), September (Earth, Wind, and Fire), Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye) and lots of others.

Am I missing something?

Those cheesey songs may go well during a tv timeout, or something like that, but otherwise it seems like those songs just don't fit in.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I'm not really sure these would work all that well for 3rd down. It might make us loud, but it might be kind of awkward.

Me too!

DJ3J? Trypsyn?

Ok, I've never even heard of this one, and I consider myself very well-versed in older music. Are you sure it isn't the townies that are requesting all of these?

Now that I'm actually awake, I'm thinking that these are a bad 3rd down idea mostly just because people will be confused as to why Jesse's Girl is getting them "pumped up".

However, there is something to be said for these, because when December 1963 came on after the michigan game, singing along with all of my fellow students was one of the best moments I've ever experienced in my time at Notre Dame. Simply awesome.

Neither of those but I know both of them. If you've never heard of Walking on Broken Glass you're not that well-versed in older music, not trying to be a dick but that's a really well known song, Jesse's Girl may not be the best example, especially for 3rd down, and totally agree that was one of the highlights of my time at Notre Dame thus far.

Yes. You say that these old pop songs are cheesy, and I can see your point, but myself and most of my friends here consider the way overplayed metal songs that literally everybody uses to be much more cheesy. If you want an example, think of Sweet Caroline with the Red Sox or Chelsea's Dagger for the Blackhawks. Both relatively unorthodox songs to be played at sports games, but also both among the most beloved songs in all of sports and both are iconic of each team and fan base, in large part because they are just something different.
