Why even start this? Golson is, and should be, the starter. I'm fairly confident that Kelly knows what he is doing.

that was in response to your comment suggesting that ND's defense was not going to allow OKLA to put up big numbers against ND.
per ESPN, here are some ND offense numbers (general)

I wasn't being arrogant and even if I was, how would that effect the team? That chart about our offense has nothing to do with our defense.

You almost got your wish Sat. as far as the int's go. Im real confused about this QB issue. Theisman says watch out for this kid. I have read every post on this and I see good points on each side. Gives me a headache. Tommy seams to me likes he moves the chains. Golson has great mobility and unpredictability (I mean that in a good way.) Tommy hasnt coughed it up once yet. SH*T , I dont know......................................... Lets just beat BYU first before we keep up with this Oklahoma garbage.

Tommy did well on Saturday. But did you notice that he was working with kind of short fields? Did you notice that without circus catches from Theo and TJ we might not be talking about an undefeated ND team? Pulling the plug on Golson now would be foolish. We know what Tommy can do and what he can't do. Golson still has the potential to break out and provide the high end athleticism that we will need if we are to stand any hope of beating OK and USC. Tommy does not.
Stay with Golson and if he does not improve dramatically by the end of the season...it is Gunner time.

I hear ya but just go watch the tape last year and see what defenses were able to do against Rees. And that was with All American Mike Floyd.

We CAN win a NC with our current system. We WILL NOT win a NC with TR as the starter.
If you recall when he played against Stanford last year, he got knocked out of the game. He cannot survive against an OU or USC defense as the starter. What he can do, though, is come in during the 4th quarter and contribute against a weakened defense that has been battling all game.

First off those won't circus catches, maybe a little difficult but those weren't circus catches. Secondly high end athleticism is not going to beat OK or USC. Precision passing, opening holes for our RBs, not turning the ball over, making the correct presnap adjustments, and minimizing penalties will win those games. High end athleticism has **** to do with it. I am not advocating for Rees to start but if Golson can't pull it together and stop making critical mistakes (INTs vs Michigan, and the fumbles vs Stanford) then Kelly might not have a choice but to pull him. I think Golson gets at least 2-3 more games to prove himself.

NO,NO, NO for Tommy Starting. He has done a great job as a closer. Sorry, but going against good defenses for a whole game scares the crap out of me with Tommy behind center.
6 TD's and 11 Turnovers is what he did against good defenses last year
1-4 as a starter agasint good teams last year
192 yards per game against good defenses.
Bowl game and 2 INts in the end zone is enough for me.

Really? If a frosh QB makes some mistakes again he gotta go huh? Interesting. I guess we forgot what Tommy Rees was like last year. I would agree those weren't circus catches but the throws weren't great either. Now on the other hand EG's throw to Tyler was money.
Personally I liked the way EG came back after some adversity. Shows grit. Had he not gone out he just might of led ND to a TD like he had previous and this thread wouldn't even exist... He has all year to prove himself.
And I think you're wrong on athleticism, it wins majority of the time in CFB. Just the nature of the beast. NFL is a different story.

I hope all you that want Tommy starting better realize that Kelly hasn't made him the starter for a reason. In football the most popular players is the backup QB. And I guarantee if Rees pulls on of his 80 yard drives and throws a pick in the end zone you'll be calling for EG again. EG has played against great defenses, and a times has had a very shaky O-Line. Would we like him to make better reads and throw for more yards and TD's of course, but the guy is a freshman. He has shown me a lot and we are watching a future star player grow before our eyes in my opinion.

So, I'm at work waiting on my partner and thought I would hop on here real quick......you've got to be ****ing kidding me!!!!!!! ND is 6-0, and this is thw topic for diacussion???? OP needs drawn, quartered, and maybe burned (as I sit here and shake my head). Tommy has done some really good things in relief this year, but as others have pointed out, his WR's have made plays for him. Which every team needs, don't get me wrong, but, let's stop making a mountain out of a mole hill, or however that statement goes. If it's not broke, why fix it???

I feel like Golson is spreading defenses because he is a threat with his legs and he can make big time throws. Rees comes in and hits some short routes and I agree he looks really good. But it isn't going to take defenses long to tighten up on him and force Rees to make more difficult plays just like last year. When teams took away the short and intermediate routes from Floyd, Rees was lost. I'm worried about how bad this concussion is with Golson. It's not always easy to jump right back in the lineup when you get hit like that. Especially for somebody that is struggling with the mental side of the game already.

Tommy doesn't need to get away from the rush, he anticipates it during his pre snap read and avoids it. EG puts himself in a lot of the situations he gets into by not reading the defense correctly or breaking the pocket too early. I too have found myself saying "Tommy cant do that" several times a game while watching EG, but I have also been realizing that Tommy probably wouldn't have been sacked in the endzone (nor fumbled the ball) and would have checked out of many of the broken plays EG escapes.
I'm not saying Rees should start (although, if EG has concussion symptoms still, its a no-brainer), what I am saying is that the door is certaintly not closed for Tommy. Some of you act like EG has been playing awesome, he hasn't. Our offense is mediocre at best right now and we will need to get better if we want to compete for championships.

Let's not act like Tommy has great pocket awareness. You can't say he wouldn't have been sacked. Did you see the rush Stanford was getting on that play EG was in the endzone?
And the very first play of OT, Tommy was sacked by the left defensive end. Blind sided? I'd understand that, but you can't take sacks from the one side you're supposed to have the peripherals to avoid.. And don't tell me Tommy doesn't fumble. Did you watch last year?

No he's not. And quit using that excuse for him. He's not even a Redshirt Freshman, because ND doesn't redshirt. He practiced in Kelly's offense all year long, last year. He had Spring ball and Fall camp, to fine tune his game and get better, and he still struggles to read the D, pre-snap, and get ND into the right play. Now, I'm ok with that. I am willing to give him a chance to learn on the job. I think he will be a very good QB. But he has limitations of his own, at this point. Closing your eyes to those limitations doesn't make them disappear.

That was the third time that EG was running around our endzone trying to find a receiver in that game. How many times have you seen Rees do that? None, that's how many. The reason why is that Rees would either throw it away or check out of the play. That's the thing that some people are having trouble understanding about Rees. It's easy to see the athletic difference between EG and Rees, it's a lot harder to see the difference between the ears. When Rees checks out of a play that EG would have got sacked on, it goes unseen by almost everyone.
Furthermore, Rees is a year older now. Everyone keeps using "last year" as some type of barometer for what Rees is this year. What about EG last year? He wasn't even good enough to suplant Tommy. He was our scout team QB. Both of these guys are different players than they were last year. Most people on here only want to believe that EG is different, while Rees couldn' possibly of improved. It's silly.
As I said, I think EG should still start. But if he doesn't improve, then Rees has shown that he is more than capable of being a solid QB for us.

I like having Rees in small doses, personally. He connects with Eifert really well, reads zones, and he throws a very catchable ball. But if you give him 5 straight series he's bound to throw a pick on the 4th or 5th.

Right, Mayock pointed out that Tommy was checking into run plays on the final drive of regulation because Eifert was double-covered. That's the stuff that separates Rees from EG that, when you watch the game as a fan, you often don't notice. And Wooly makes a great point ... at least early last year Rees could not do that ... we lost the Michigan game last year because when Michigan stacked the line on short yardage plays late in the game, he failed to check out of run plays and pitch it out to Floyd instead. This isn't the same Rees we saw last year.
I really like Kelly's approach to the QB situation. Golson should be the starter ... his athletic ability gives our offense another dimension. But Tommy can do things that EG can't do, too, and his poise and command of the offense make him a solid backup at least and a powerful weapon off the bench at best.
