Chris is a top 100 player yes but his brother has ZERO offers. Not even one from a D2 school. I love Hawkins as a player but you can't waste a spot on His brother who will never see the field.

Maybe offer him as a preferred walk-on? Dk about the family and tuition situations, grades, etc., but if ND is showing legit interest, there has to be something they feel they can work with.

I didn't read between the lines in regards to his brother. I thought you were saying it straight up about Chris but now I know what you meant.

My bad.

what was said about the brother visiting? is it speculation that he wants to go where he can play with his brother or has he said something about being upset with USC because they arent considering the brother at all? can someone elaborate (if there is anything to add) on this

What was said? That Armond is visiting next month with Chris and the staff will be evaluating his film. I don't know who the quote about Chris flipping is attributed to though.

Didn't play football last year, when the recruiting process really gets going. If he doesn't pick up any offers as the season moves along your point is a good one. If he does, it isn't.

MODS: If this is over the line for premium delete, but the article quoted on here left out one important thing, maybe I missed it being late and all.

Hawkins brother missed his JR year. Not sure why. PAC-12 schools are giving him a look. Which is what we are going to do. Looks like if he has a good season, tides could change.

Once again, pretty new at the premium to free boards stuff. I know you cant give it word for word but if it has been covered or is to much info, delete.

So are they twins or just in the same grade? Maybe step-brothers?

If his brother has pretty good athletic ability and Chris will come if we offer why not offer. You can teach the kid to play corner it's not like he'll expected to be a starter next year and the irish don't have great cb depth right now. As many knowledgable posters have said, Alexander is a longshot based on the distance. I would rather ND fill their class with potential than be left at the altar when kids decide to go elsewhere. Farley is a now a key piece of the secondary so what's saying Armond couldn't be?

dudes got no offers...can't offer a kid just to get another unless he is absolutely elite. preferred walk on offer at best.

The kid for one reason or another didn't play last year. It's only a few games into the season so he will likely start getting them soon if he deserves it. Most offers that kids have now are based on their junior years and he didn't play his so before people say don't offer because no one has take thy into consideration. He also has been receiving interest from PAC 12 teams after only a few games.

This. The guy is an unknown; who knows, maybe he played another sport in his Junior year (like soccer) and decided to switch. I know that Shane Walton played both soccer and football in high school (was all-state in both IIRC) so he would have had highlights, but don't recall what the interest level from schools was for football when he was being recruited. How many football offers did Shane Walton have? Not saying he's the next Shane Walton, but there is virtually NO information to judge this guy on right now positively or negatively (other than someone who has been to his games - so ACamp, get out there): no highlights, no camp reports, etc.

I'm always amazed at how people judge comparative abilities of recruits based on less than 10 minutes of highlights when competition levels, etc are so different and you cannot see the remaining 95% of the reps these guys take. I understand the leap to say he doesn't warrant an offer, because he has no other offers - just think that any definitive statements either way are unfounded at this point.

ND told him that they couldn't recruit his brother anymore because of their numbers crunch. His dad and Chris appreciated their honesty and Chris will still come up for a visit. All this per ISD. I forget what game they are looking at though.

Having said that, I've said it many times that Chris ain't coming to ND IMHO. He's from a huge USC family, his dad's ringtone is their fight song, he still proclaims his love for USC. and just yesterday he was posting on their rivals paysite that he was still all USC. Only way he switches is if USC dogs him and stops recruiting him, and even then, I STILL don't see him leaving the Pac 12. I hope I'm wrong, but I haven't been feeling this one since USC suddenly offered him and he changed his whole tune about recruiting...

USC commits will eye Irish - southbendtribune.com

"Before I committed, Notre Dame was one of my heavy favorites," said Hawkins, a cornerback from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. "I promised them an official visit. A lot of people told me the school is a great atmosphere and great environment to play college football, so I want to see that for myself."

"I've never seen Notre Dame before, so I want to look at the school and see what the environment is like with Notre Dame football," Hawkins said.

Hawkins said the USC coaches he has talked to have encouraged him to take other visits.

"The USC coaches actually told me to take my visits. They said nobody can compete with them," Hawkins said. "They said they're the best school in the country so they're pushing for taking visits."

hmm...USC is pushing him to take visits...interesting.

Anyway I know no one thinks he will flip, because his dad is on the Rivals USC board. But, I was thinking last night what if Chris isn't a USC fan. His dad is a huge USC fan, but Chris might not be a big USC fan.

Something in my gut tells em he is going to be Irish.

His dad isn't on the rivals board, CHRIS is, and yes, he's a huge USC fan.

Just yetserday he got on their site to tell the readers not to worry about him taking other visits. Just got back from Cal with his brother and he's still all USC.

With the probable rain coming to ND Saturday, he went from 1% flipping in my mind to 0.000000001% flipping...

This is just an opinion, but I would love Redfield much more. That kid would be a huge steal.

It is kind of smart to have a back up plan when you are one of 18 commits to a school that can only take 15. Yeah, that's overly simplistic but you know Kiffy will kick your butt to the curb if they need to make room for another 5 star.

Can't get em all I guess but there are a couple other kids I would rather save a spot for. Not sour grapes because I would certainly be thrilled if he wanted to jump aboard but aside from Jaylon, Alexander is the icing on the class!

I dont know if you saw it in the Oklahoma thread but the California Governor signed a bill that requires all California BCS (Pac 12) colleges to convert an athletic scholarship to an academic scholarship should an athlete have a serious (career ending) injury. So if Kiffins players get injured bad enough, they can still have an academic ride. This does not mean he wont still drop a healthy player or walk-on. I just thought this was intersting. I have never heard of anything like that.

On second thought maybe the governor is helping out Kiffin, UCLA, CAl etc ....

Actually his dad told the SC 247 guy there would be no interviews and that they were impressed with ND coaches and fans. Also said ND has a very classy program.
