I dont disagree with most on your post injuries suspensions and kids going to the NFL have hurt the D. That being said they still have some damn good players on the defensive side of the ball. While the LB core is not seller its solid and Minter is a baller. They are not Bama but who is?I see pretty much every LSU game they play, including the standard SEC slate of powder-puffs. While they both have the potential to become monsters, their DEs are massively overrated today. Montgomery is big enough to hold up at the point of attack and has the athleticism and skills to be a strong pass rusher, but he's not put it together this season. Mingo had 1 sack all season heading into this game. One! And he's horribly undersized. He's very good in pursuit and you can't run swings to his side, but he gets absolutely blown up on runs right at him. Last season, the playmakers in the secondary and the solid LBs covered the blemishes of those two. This season, Mathieu, Claiborne, Taylor and Brooks are all gone from the secondary; Reid is playing a different role that's hamstrung his ability to make plays; and Simon has taken a step back. On top of that, their LB play has been mediocre -- probably the result of having so-so LB recruiting classes from about 2009-2011.
With those losses, LSU's D has noticeably declined. They're still in the upper echelon, but they're not competitive with Bama's D. A team like OU could absolutely move the ball on them.
Oklahoma would have huge trouble throwing the ball on LSU I dont think sacks is a good stat.
