I see pretty much every LSU game they play, including the standard SEC slate of powder-puffs. While they both have the potential to become monsters, their DEs are massively overrated today. Montgomery is big enough to hold up at the point of attack and has the athleticism and skills to be a strong pass rusher, but he's not put it together this season. Mingo had 1 sack all season heading into this game. One! And he's horribly undersized. He's very good in pursuit and you can't run swings to his side, but he gets absolutely blown up on runs right at him. Last season, the playmakers in the secondary and the solid LBs covered the blemishes of those two. This season, Mathieu, Claiborne, Taylor and Brooks are all gone from the secondary; Reid is playing a different role that's hamstrung his ability to make plays; and Simon has taken a step back. On top of that, their LB play has been mediocre -- probably the result of having so-so LB recruiting classes from about 2009-2011.

With those losses, LSU's D has noticeably declined. They're still in the upper echelon, but they're not competitive with Bama's D. A team like OU could absolutely move the ball on them.
I dont disagree with most on your post injuries suspensions and kids going to the NFL have hurt the D. That being said they still have some damn good players on the defensive side of the ball. While the LB core is not seller its solid and Minter is a baller. They are not Bama but who is?

Oklahoma would have huge trouble throwing the ball on LSU I dont think sacks is a good stat.

If u watched the game u wouldn't have said that

I'm not denying that the offense played well last night, but we have to take it with a grain of salt. Miami's defense is nothing short of terrible and we shouldn't kid ourselves to think differently. It was a step in the right direction for our offense, but they still have a lot to prove.

Just read in the most recent tribune article that Oklahoma is statistically the best team we play rest of year as far as balance on both sides of the ball.

I'm not saying I agree with his rankings but who has Bama played? Michigan is the toughest team they've played. I think these rankings should be about who you've played and beaten not about subjectively thinking Bama is an unstoppable juggernaut. With that said, ND should be much higher.

Boy, i am WAY behind the curve when it comes to assessing a commentator's psychology, but Jason Seahorn just picked Notre Dame as the fourth best team in the nation [behind only Alabama, oregon, and South Carolina]. Dari Nowka [spelling optional on that] picked us fifth best.

This shows me that if ND continues to take care of business, there is NO prejudice-barrier whatever out there to us getting all the props imaginable.

Watching the same show.... I'm as giddy as a little chubby girl plowing throw a stack of cotton candy on "Cheat On My Diet" day.

Over Half the Top 25 played bottom feeder schedules

Over Half the Top 25 played bottom feeder schedules

13 are 50 or higher.

7 are 111 or higher.

What the hell are these cupcake eaters doing in the Top 25?

Navy, ND's lowest ranked opponent is 102 ranked team (Sagarin Predictor). These teams have played an entire schedule which ranks BELOW Navy, considerably below Navy.

They got bonus ponts for going all the way to Texas this year. 924 miles. They haven't been that far in 50 years.

That's about half the distance from South Bend to L.A. or Palo Alto.

I was being mostly sarcastic. Also, aren't those strength of schedule numbers based off who you have played not who is on the schedule? We still have our three toughest games ahead of us.

I understood your drift.

I was being caustic. Gator fans will tell you Spurrier started playing the backyard schedule because of the "rugged" SEC schedule he had to face. Spurrier increased the Citadel type cupcakes but the local games only goes way back. I looked back through their schedules several years ago and found one home and home with Southern Cal, in the early 80's. They also had a H&H with Syracuse. About the only trips out of the Confedracy. They haven't been to Texas since before WWII.

Aside from bowl games in FL or New Orleans I don't think they've ever played ND, PSU, UM, OSU, MSU, UTX, UW, OU, OKS, NEB, BYU, WVU, ORE, ORSt, UCLA, Stanford.

Tennessee can travel. Alabama can travel. Even Auburn once a decade but not the Gators. They're homebodies!

Travel is so hard! Time zones. Cold weather. Strange food. 80 to 100k hostile fans.

But they will schedule cupcakes. Anytime, anywhere, as long as it's in the swamp.

You have some time on your hands sir.

Was I correct in my thinking of how the SOS works under that sagarin model?

Yes, you were correct. Sagarin only includes opponents played to date in S.O.S.

I have some time but I've also been doing this for some time. I moderated an ND board back in '95 a lot of this stuff is repeat.

As for UF I used to be part of a very small board that include fans from ND, UM, UF, UGA, UTX, UTN, USC, Brown( really), and a few others. We talked a lot of out of region football. That's where my familiarity with UF scheduling comes from.

My wife's family also includes two Auburn grads whose kids graduated from Alabama so I get more SEC hype than ESPN puts out. I've also worked in 47 states, lived in the N.E., S.E, and S.W. and found knowing something about the homestate football teams never hurts business (as long as you learn to bite your tongue a lot).

I could see us jumping KSt. WVU goes down, FL is in a game with Vandy, so they may get dropped even if it is a close win. LSU v SCAR tonight, so if SCAR goes down...A lot of variables but I like us to jump KSt. at least.

WVU is going down with a loss today. So if SCAR loses, then would we go up to 4th?
