Except they didn't... at all. Typical ESPN. For teams outside the top 5 right now, Palmer likes USC and Pollack likes K-State.

lol yeah trolololol espn. Our irrelevant team is all over their video bumpers but they can't find the time to talk about us.

So I just thought about the last few years against Stanford, and it's really interesting how no one is mentioning how badly they want to beat Stanford like we felt against Michigan. Now I know Stanford is not a real rival of ours in the sense that Michigan is, and we haven't had last second heart breaking losses to Stanford, but is getting dominated the past 2 years and losing by a touchdown the year before really any better? I mean the current seniors have NEVER beaten Stanford. That is pathetic. I have a feeling the team will be amped to get this win for the seniors.

Just thought it was interesting that no one was really paying attention to our current losing streak against the tree, and how that might contribute to the team's motivation for this game.

It's something to consider.

My biggest concern is their tight ends. The thought of Dan Fox attempting to cover Levine Toilolo scares the crap out of me.

I'm looking for continued progress from Golson-let's get some deep balls EG! Also looking for the D to continue to apply pressure-Nunes is not as mobile as Morris-I want sacks! ND will be motivated with the past losses, ESPN coverage from campus, and the continued high expectations. If the team can stay even-keeled (like they have all season) they can dominate this game.

After past disappointments, I keep looking at the challenges each week and wonder/hope they can meet those challenges. So far, the team has stepped up, making me a very happy fan. Keep it up Irish!

Stanford is arguably a more dangerous recruiting rival. They've stolen a lot of great prospects from us over the last few years. We desperately need them to regress to their pre-Harbaugh and Luck mean ASAP.

Well Stanford currently has the 6th ranked rushing D, higher than ND and MSU. They are both inthe top 50 in total defense. You can say look at what Arizona did to Stanford, but look at what Indiana did to MSU. They also play in the Pac-10 which is easily a better conference than the B1G.

Stanford is a better team than MSU, and I think they are significantly better. I think MSU has a good defense and has benefited from playing in the B1G. They played an Irish team that was struggling offensively and gave up 20 points. I do not understand why people are so dismissive of them. I have heard it every year. "When Toby graduates, Stanford will be a dorrmat again". "Now that Harbaugh is gone, Stanford is going to suck". "Let's see how good Stanford is without Luck". Guess what they are still good.

I expect Notre Dame to win and cover but I do not think there should be any doubt that this is the best team the Irish will have played so far.

I think unfortunately you can throw all the stats out when teams come to South Bend. Bottom line we will and always have gotten their best effort. Purdue, Michigan, both came in and played their hearts out. Stanford will be no different. Sure this Irish team will be motivated by the fact that they haven't beaten the trees while in school, guess what...so was USC. Stanford will be equally motivated to not hand over the crown as the best "top tier academic football program" and their seniors would love to say USC and ND never beat us. Statistics aside, I think to deny that this will be the best all around team we have played this year or to think they will not be infinitely more motivated to come and rain on our parade in South Bend, than Michigan State was when we went there is to deny the realities of the recent past.

Yeah that is absolutely true. I meant more that the fans perspective on the rivalry is very different. ND fans don't hate Stanford like most hate Michigan, so the rivalry is more one of respect than one of dislike/bitterness, if that makes sense.

I think spond will be in coverage alot with on of the TE. And depending on how well we do with getting pressure might see the rover a little bit. Shumate needs to be on the field. Farley seemed confused against Miami.

Stanford will try to confuse the fk out of EG. Hopefully Kelly and Martin will minimize the need for EG to be checking out of plays all game long. I know Stanford loves to blitz, at least from what i've seen in their games. Please be the week CBreezy gets free.

ND will NOT be able to run against Stanford like they did against Miami. Their front 7 is tough, they rotate a lot on the D line, and cause a ton of problems up front. ND's O line better bring their lunch pails.

I see BK coming out early to spread wide, get their LB's in space, and use short passes like slants, screens, and swing passes to loosen them up a bit and move sticks.

I think we see lots of spread, sweeps, bubble screens, and short slant with a few shots downfield. Standford has a big front seven but are not great in coverage. All the games I have watched, teams have spread them out. That is their weak point. We need protection and time from the o-line this week. Our best matchups this week are still DD, Troy and Tyler outwide.

That line it crazy. 9.5 point favorites vs a team that beat USC?

USC has a lot of missing (developing) pieces this year. They aren't nearly as good as everyone was thinking they might be. Don't get me wrong, they're good, just not THAT good.

For me, armed with cognizance of the recruiting trail, it is absolutely shooting up the list of teams I love to see Notre Dame beat. Hopefully it won't get there (the heated rivalry), because Notre Dame stomps them too often to make it a real series. I hope.

this stanford team reminds me of a better msu, i think they are slightly better on D than msu, and on offense they have a stud rb, and an inexperienced qb, and an nfl tight end in ertz, much like bell, maxwell and dion sims for msu.

protection will be key in this game, and when they do bust through our oline every now and again we'll need golson to us his athleticism to extend some plays.

Exactly. USC is a team that struggled for a good half against Utah.

Stanford is good... very good in fact. Strong WELL ROUNDED play is what is going to win this game. Our recievers are not going to be open like they were against Miami unless we run the ball effectively. We don't have to run the ball as well as against Miami... just enough to bring up some of the secondary.

Notre Dame wins a nail biter. 17-14

"Stanford needs to run, Notre Dame has allowed zero rushing touchdowns. I like the Irish."

It's basically what Lee Corso will say.

I think Stanford is a bit (see: a lot) better than Miami in pretty much every way besides QB and WR.

I agree... what does that have to do with us beating the spread against Stanford? They are two seperate spread totals. Many people on here were saying that the spread last week was too high and despite us being much better than them, we wouldn't win by two TD's. Now people are saying that a 10 point ND win is ridiculous. I'm just sayin', come talk to me on Sunday.

Oh, I agree we will beat the spread, but the fact that people are questioning the spread is the only similiarity.

I expect 30+ pass attempts in this one. We won't come close to the production on the ground that we enjoyed Saturday.

This tells me everything we need to know. ND needs to pass and at least be in 3rd and shorts. Eat the clock. Our defense needs to keep them in uncomfortable downs and yardage for their QB. Their pass defense is as terrible as Miami's run defense is.
Spread them out and pass the ball. Golson needs to hit his man.
