West Virginia is so overrated. Maybe the worst D in the country.

I got the distinct impression from reading the Miami Game Thread during the First Quarter that ND clearly had the worst D in the country.

For a big team, maybe. 63 to Baylor, 45 to Texas, 34 to Marshall. They've got a killer offense but that pass D is embarrassing.

Hyperbole, you should have just said a horrible defense. Certainly they don't have a worse defense than Texas, and they are a big team. But yes, what a pathetic defense...

Southern California #12 and OU #14 both could climb back into the Coaches Top 10.

Yeah I overstated it, but it's definitely awful. Teams with Ds like that can't keep on winning when a hot defense or one mistake will cost them the game.

Florida is going to get way too much credit in beating a horrendously overrated LSU team while scoring less points than Towson.

I expect us at #7... maybe #6.

To be fair. I think Florida is real this year. Their D is absurd, and their O, while underwhelming, has some serious speed.

Florida played bad on offense today. It wasn't just LSU's D. They are a bad offensive team. Even if they jump us this week, if we keep winning they won't be ahead of us for long.

Florida put up 14 on LSU. We put up 13 on UM.

I'll say:

Alabama
Oregon
S. Carolina
West Virginia
Kansas State
Florida
ND

I dont see why Florida should jump us. They beat an overrated LSU team 14-6 at home. We DEMOLISHED our opponent.
Honestly though, it should be:

#5: Notre Dame
#6: Florida
#7: Kansas State

UF shouldn't jump ND but they'll get the SEC votes that went to LSU and UGA last week. "Those are SEC votes!"

Does ND get any bounce from the ACC with FSU's departure?

Still think that S Car is better than Oregon and should be number 2.

Just to play devil's advocate, it's not like our offense has played too hot this year either, outside of big games against horrible defenses in Navy and Miami.

The title Devil's Advocate (an alias for the promoter fidei) was abolished by Pope John Paul II. The current position is Promoter of Justice which you have done admirably.

Whatever Miami's difficiencies the Offense did look more complete tonight getting plays called in, reading defenses, passing, running, and blocking. A good foundation to grow on.

Well a bad offensive game against Michigan or Michigan State is different than one against Bowling Green. Our offense isn't great but I'd take it over Florida's revolving door offensive line and Driskel's struggles.

This seems about right. K State feels overrated but until they lose it's hard to argue they shouldn't be there. They've got a date in Morgantown in a couple of weeks.
As for Florida, whatever. They had a huge win today, bigger than ours. But if we keep winning, we'll keep climbing. They'll lose eventually.

Exactly. This is why college football is great, regular season matters. Win and you will climb.

Couple of you guys (not most) have FL jumping us and you agree with it. I don't see how. They beat a perennial power at home, a top ranked team, and that's great. But look a little closer. LSU was terribly overrated, with a truly pathetic offense, and they lost what, 4 or 5 starters that game? And with all that, FL still were down more than they were up. Props for the win, and they deserve to be a top 7 team, but jump ND? Nope.

Besides all the reasons there, you can't jump a team that beat a capable opponent into the ground 41-3. If ND had played a team like, say, Bowling Green, and looked bad in winning, then absolutely FL should be ahead of ND. But ND took care of business with a thrashing of a 4-1 team with excellent athletes. ND should be #6, no doubt.

We'll see what the writers do though...

I would argue that a great many voters just look at the score and see that Fla beat a top SEC team in LSU. They may have been overrated, but think about who overrated them. I will be surpised if they don't jump us. Btw, the WVU defense is total garbage. at least it was in the 2 games of theirs I watched.

Will WVU ever get punished for not fielding a defense?

They will when someone outscores them.

As for Florida, LSU may not have much offense, but they haven't lost to a team not named Alabama in a year and a half. It's a big win. We beat a team that might be "up and coming" but clearly still has a long way to go. A big win for our program, yes, but not really comparable in the national scheme of things. So yeah, Florida's got a pretty strong case.
But be patient. They've still got Georgia, South Carolina, FSU and a potential SEC title game ahead of them and the rankings don't much matter until all those games get played.
