Kelly says he doesn't even begin to think in those terms until week six, then he sits down to re-evaluate the team with the other coaches. I will say that I think he will, though.

I remember him saying that, but im pretty sure hes thought about it, the fact that amir didnt make the trip to east lansing makes me believe that he wont be in this years plans.

As much as I would like to see him play now it would benefit us so much if he sat this year. He would have time to heal, learn the playbook, and hit the weights.

If he is healthy by week 6, and we lose one of the other three, I wouldn't be the least surprised if he gets in.

That's a great point! The depth chart will have a huge impact on what happens. Hopefully we don't have to worry about that.

Kelly: Amir Carlisle will redshirt this year. He won't play this year. Don't want to waste him now. We'll shut him down & put on scout tm

That' a good decision, especially being nearly 5 games into the season. We've been lucky to not have any serious injuries in the running game. HE will hopefully be beastly next season.

That's what's best. Atkinson and Amir next year is jet speed. Don't want to risk if Amir isn't 100%. Maybe Cierre next year too

Human bodies are amazing... I do believe nerves can regenerate... I think he will be fine, the best thing is easing back into it...

I am very happy about this! Like I said before would love to see him play now but 3 full years to play with more carries available is such a better position for Amir to be in!

Stem cells can heal the problem.

It's an unlikely regeneration issue though.

I was really hoping to see this guy in action this year but this is for the best.

Tough break for Amir but he will be a staple and capable leader among the RB core for years to come. Like yankee said more carries for him come next year and the years to follow.

I know Amir is disappointed, but I want him 100 percent next year. I think it's best that he gets to 100 percent and we have him for the next few years. He's going to be good!

Don't the scout team guys get beat on?

Don't the scout team guys get beat on?

If he is having nerve issues with his ankle, I'd prefer he not be the first team D's tackling dummy. Maybe the scout team doesn't go live?

Yes they can. This was Peyton mannings issue with the neck nerve.

Guys: google nerve tissue regeneration,

You can learn to use something with no feeling, but nerves do not regenerate. Hence spinal cord issues.

Nerve tissue shows resiliency to pick up other duties per say, but I'm not aware of the body's ability to heal nerves.

That's my bet.

Of course, I'm not an MD.

I imagine he is on scout team to stay in shape, engaged in the team, and give the defense different looks but I highly doubt he is getting beat up as a workhorse during practice

The ISD update said he had the nerve damage when he first came to ND but it has since grown back and is why BK said his ankle is basically 100%

Kelly said his nerves were regenerating, it will just take some time... Ill go on Kelly's word, considering he probably got that information from licensed doctors...

Could that possibly be a medical hardship?

No, you get 5 years to play 4 per NCAA regs. He played as a freshman so he's burned one of the the 4. This would be his "redshirt" year leaving him 3 years PT and 3 years left on his 5 year clock.

IF he has another season ending injury he could then apply for a medical 6th year and would probably get it as he did not sit out '12 for developmental reasons but for a significant injury.

I'd doubt he's on the scout team as running, cutting, shifting weight, starting and stopping would probably all be detrimental to the healing process.

I'd expect the trainers would have him on a supervised orthopedic designed rehab program minimizing stress on the ankle. No, I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

BK stated that he will be on the scout team helping the defense prepare for games, and it sounds like he actually is healed up from both the ankle and the nerve damage at this point. The main reason for the decision to redshirt is not his lack of health now, but the decision not to waste a year of eligibility at this point in the season when we already have 3 good RBs in rotation. Fast forward to the 7:30 mark for the question on Amir:
