Looks like Iron Man for New Mexico.
Locksley is a much better recruiter than he was a head coach. If I recall correctly there were a number of character issues and probably academic issues. ("Coach didn't say we had to go to class if we came here.") Add normal attrition.
Neither Albuquerque nor New Mexico is for everyone. I know people that live there that wouldn't live anywhere else. And I know others that have lived there and would live anywhere else. It a climate and lifestyle you have to desire. If you think ND has a problem selling snow to kids from the South, try selling the desert climate and adobe lifestyle to inner city kids as well as kids from the South, Northwest, Northeast, and Midwest. Hip Hop with the Hopis, mountain hiking in the Sandias, museums, galleries, and ballon festivals aren't South Beach, L.A., etc. Not a knock on the climate and lifestyle but rather pointing out the large transition in climate and lifestyle many of Locksley recruits had to make.
I don't know how many of the 34 were from NM, AZ, or West Tx where the adjustment would be minor but suspect many of them were from Locksley's old stomping grounds where he had connections with high school coaches.
Davie recruited Texas and the Southwest at A&M and for ND. I suspect he'll be looking closer to home for most of his recruits than Locksley did.
Is that Sinbad?
How does that happen?
The second half shows you what this can be," first-year New Mexico coach Bob Davie said. "The atmosphere in the stadium, to be honest, was electric. You could feel it. And when that atmosphere is electric and we play decent to good football, you can see the results of that. It looked like a different team.
The Lobos already have matched last year's win total. They lost 45-0 to Boise State in 2011.
New Mexico is 2-3 (wins over Southern and NMSU). Kansas is 1-3 (win over South Dakota State). Kansas probably won't win a game in the Big 12. New Mexico gets to play Colorado State and Hawaii.Thank you, OMM, (I predicted Davie)
So, What IS the difference in the W-L column for these two coaches?
But the rumor is that only HARRY Potter could have turned JohnnyK into a successful football player... he spent entirely too much time on his mullet.
It's true.
Sadly enough.
My fame is affiliation oriented only.
But oh how that Kentucky waterfall shines

Anyone know who Davie's OC is? Interesting to see they are running the option.
His OC, Bob DeBesse, took Sam Houston St to the FCS Title Game last year as OC there. Before that he was a HS assistant. Spent 5 years as WR Coach at A&M and PU (where he coach Tyler Stubblefield NM's WR Coach). He was a HC for 5 yrs at Southwest TX St. He was also an OC for MINN and TCU back in the 90's. DeBesse has run the option in the past.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico and head football coach Bob Davie have agreed on a two-year contract extension.
The school announced Tuesday that the new seven-year agreement will run through the 2019 season.
New Mexico says the financial terms from Davie's original contract remain unchanged.
Vice president for athletics Paul Krebs says school officials are excited about the direction of the Lobos football program on and off the field under Davie.
Davie, a former head coach at Notre Dame, signed a six-year, $4.5 million contract in late 2011 to become the Lobos' head coach.
Davie led the Lobos to a 4-9 record during his first season in 2012, producing more victories than the 2009 to 2011 seasons combined.
New Mexico Lobos
Bob Davie making waves
Where does New Mexico's Bob Davie go at age 61? Perhaps to the school's athletic hall of fame. The Lobos are bowl eligible for the first time in eight years after beating Boise State. The former Notre Dame coach can clinch the program's second winning season since 2004 by beating Colorado State.
