I think he'd have a TD or two if our O was clicking or if we weren't being so conservative. I can't wait for #2 and Golson to get their timing down and bust some games wide open.

Don't worry Sherm! I definitely will.

Just realized....
Send Chris our love and confidence. With the coaches openly talking about the need to get him more involved,,,, only a matter of time. Thank you for hanging out on IE! Go Irish, Go CB!

Martin's interview was unusually great for real information --- not all coachspeak. One of the things that gave me insight was his remark about Chris. He said that they know that he can take the top off of the defense --- that they had him out there but didn't get it to him --- "BUT WE SCARED THEM".

That's a big wow for me. Martin and Kelly are seeing that even though they didn't connect, Chris left a notable mark on the game. THAT's why he's talking so positively about lots of involvement for Chris. He SCARES DCs. How about that?

Yep, exactly. I think he can be the answer to a few areas of struggle in the O. Even just the threat of him. Only time. Just need to continue to chuck it his way. As soon as the chemistry is there, he will be EG's favorite target (hopefully along with TE too).

That will be needed to take the pressure off this running game. Sooner rather than later.

As soon as our QB situation matures, CB will be #1 in yards. He'll battle TE for TDs. Won't take long hopefully. Timing and touch will come to EG once he learns to settle down a bit. When EG learns to connect with CB consistently, IMO our entire offense blossoms. The run game will flourish, and pass coverage will be stretched and challenged to the point of chaos. Book it.

Calm down, buddy.

Kid's been targeted what, twice in two games? I like his potential as much as anyone, but he hasn't done much to warrant those expectations yet.

I think we have called more plays to get Chris deep but didn't let it rip whether it be coverage or protection.

Sorry, won't calm down :). Entiltled to my prediction just like you are entitled to your cautious nature. Book it Riddickulous :)

I'll be thrilled if you're right.

I know it's early, but IMO CB is the missing link to this offence (once QB starts clicking). He's the one WR that 1) gives us the best home run threat right now, 2) will require double coverage or at least decrease double coverage on Tyler, 3) creates vert and horiz separation for the rest of the WRs, 4) stimulates our ability to run the ball effectively, and 5) allows us to go fast and furious (BK's playbook). I'm not saying CB is our savior, the best guy on the team, etc.. I'm saying he can be a home run guy at an early stage, and in doing so allows the other areas of the O to flourish.

I like this. A homerun threat combined with a monster TE down the seam means a couple of safeties playing deep, opening up the running game.

Exactly. Rediculous, isn't it :). A couple tosses (and hopefully connections) early on in the game, and in early down situations,,,, and the opposing D will be gun shy the rest of the game. No more "stack in the box", no more double teaming Tyler. All predicated though on the QB being able to get him the ball. He will be open, just need to get the chemistry down.

If we can get the Defense on their heels with CB, it will also open up everything under to just get Neal a few touches and see what he can do with it. Once we finally spread a defense vertically, I believe that the offense will explode.

agree with above posts-this guy has home run threat written all over him. Just like GAIII, get him the touches and eventually he'll break one.

Haven't we opened our last two games offensively with incompletions to CB?

I think we are setting it up to go back side hoping they roll to help over Brown.

The offensive team speed is going to be truly elite next year with Brown, Carlisle and Neal added to the mix of players that I would expect to get major PT.

Actually if Koyack can get his act together and learn to properly block, the offense from QB, RB, WR and TE there could be a helluva awesome speed and power potential at all offensive skill position.

With his speed and the speed with a few others i am surprised on 3rd short we haven't tried a WR screen.

I've been impressed with some of his blocking, I suspect that is a big reason he is seeing more PT than other freshmen, and the fact he is getting behind the defense regularly.

With 5 games done already I'm still expecting 300 yards and 3 TD's from him. Once he gets his first taste of success the flood gates are gonna open!

Nothin' wrong with CBreezy that I can see; it's just that Everett can't [yet] hit him. We'd probably do better on the CBreeze Bomb if Everett could roll out on that play so he could see everything clearly [his height issue DOES bother him in my opinion].

We'd give up nothing on the roll because Chris is going to get behind them anyway [and we could arc Toma in the short field as a relief option, since everyone over there would be bustin' their butts after Chris].

Michigan State - ran a skinny post and was four or so yards behind the defensive backs. Golson juuust missed it.

Michigan - Ran a go, got behind the corner who was in flats responsibility, Golson missed badly.

Miami - Ran a post. Didn't actually get behind the safety but was relatively open, Rees missed him baaaadly.

Eventually, they're gunna hit the open man. Yeah, he has 0 receptions for 0 yards, but I think the 300 yards and 3 TDs is a fine goal for him. I certainly think it's possible. It's not like the DBs of Stanford, Pitt, Boston College, and Wake Forest are speedsters. Even USC's DBs are pretty average this year. I'm still all "buy buy buy!" on Chris Brown this season.

I think Buster nailed it.

We've played some good/veteran defenses this season.

Wait until we get a crack at Pitt, BC, and Wake... We could literally put up video game numbers

IMO,'it's just a matter of time before he blows the top off of a defense. He clearly has the speed and from summer practice videos he has the hands to make the catches.

As we progress into the schedule, the ability to stretch the field with CB is critical. I know it was great running all over the place against Miami, but I wish BK would have let EG chuck it long to CB if only to work on timing. It's only a matter of time before someone exploits our DBs. IMO we must have the deep threat to compete against some of the better teams still remaining.

Hard to say how open he was on this play as the camera follows Ree's Denard Robinson-esque throw and by the time they show CB running the corner is side by side.

We will never know.

I've been hearing this all season, yet no one has exploited them yet. First it was going to be Purdue's balance offense to do it, they didn't, MSU was going to do it with their balance offense, they didn't, we were going to be so focused on Denard that we would have man to man coverage and Mich would exploit it and make big plays on us, THEY Didn’t. Miami set a new ACC record for passing yards last week, they’re going to exploit this young defense, and AGAIN THEY DIDN'T. Like Lou said Saturday night, there's no reason to cover and waste your energy on the WR if you know they’re not going to catch it. Now obviously that was a joke, but still, they didn't catch it and we didn't get hurt, and until then our DB's have yet been beat deep, have yet to be exploited.

Yes our DB's are young and inexperienced, but after that first drive against Miami this past week, I don't forsee our secondary having someone that wide open consistently over and over again to really affect the outcome of a game. Now I can agree, we got lucky they didn't catch it, but the adjustments made by Diaco and the defense just after Miami's 1st series was so dynamic that the best they could do was only get 3 points the rest of the game. Diaco's ability to make the correct adjustments defensively this year, doesn't have me worried to much about our secondary. The only thing that worries me in games with our defense is consistently getting pressure on the QB. I'm not taking ANYTHING away from our front 7, but if they for some reason have no answer, nor can they contain the QB and put on adamant pressure, then I begin to worry. So far this hasn't happened, so I'm still sold on ND going undefeated this year.
