What is not to believe? We sat with the recruit we came with and simply saw Jaylon with LJ essentially the whole time.

Or simply look at the panaramic shot in the ND football forum and look at the recruit section. I am the guy closer to the student section standing up with a shake down the thunder shirt last row with a beanie hat on. Gray sweats.

Hm. Conflicting reports there.

The impression I got was that his emotions were high enough that committing crossed his mind, but he never really got close to doing it because he wants to make a decision with his family and possibly take other visits.

I hope we get him. It would have been great to have him and Tee, but one is better than none.

Yeah I would have loved to have them both! I am not mad over Tee not being here anymore but I love the support he gives for the school! I wish him all the best in the world. It seems like he has a long road ahead of him. As for LJ, I love the fact that he is so versatile! Do want!

Man, I was really hoping to get a commitment from L.J. by now. By all accounts we are still at least a co-leader, but you never know ... Ezekiel Elliot left junior day having nearly committed, and then he verbaled to OSU what like a week later?

I just always hope they commit during the visit or immediately after, and then shut it down like Hunter did; you don't want another school to have a shot, because sometimes they can make up ground even on kids who were near the point of committing. (Not that you want a kid to commit before he is ready, either; then you are setting yourself up for a decommit, and that's worse.)

When you make a commitment without taking the emotions out of it and talking to the folks, that's when decommitting happens. And just because they 'shut it down' doesn't mean other schools stop going after kids. Tori Hunter Jr. is still going to be contacted by other schools. I'd love it if he had committed, but if he comes out in a couple weeks and commits to ND, that, IMO, means it's more certain.

Did I see that Hawkins and Willis are coming for the Stanford game. Are ND holding off taking DB commitments until then?

I believe ND would have secure EE's comittment had they pitched RB to him. They were recruiting him as a DB which is not his preferred position. If memory serves.

OK, subscribers only. Care to elaborate on what they did to woo him?

Yeah, I guess what I mean is that there are two kinds of great visits: the kind that seal the deal (Hunter's) and the kind that don't. Some kids have really high interest in ND and all they need to push them over the edge is to visit and see an ND game in person. Other kids need to visit to see the place in person, but it won't seal the deal because there are other important considerations besides whether ND is a comfortable fit. I was really hoping that L.J. was in the former category, but it sounds like he is in the latter. I guess that's ok; I was just hoping that the visit was all he would need to be convinced. We REALLY need him.

And I get what you are saying: even if the visit sealed the deal, that doesn't mean it can't come unsealed (see, e.g., Ronald Darby; didn't he commit during a Blue-Gold game visit?). But that's always a risk. Again, I don't want anyone to commit before they are ready; I was just hoping L.J. would be ready after a visit, but now it looks like maybe he isn't.

We're going to get at least one elite CB I'd imagine. But even if we strike out, overall our defensive backfield will be in better shape next year. We'll have both starting corners back (who are playing great). Safety returns (Farley) and Shummate, Baratti both with 3 years left and they're getting playing time right now. Not to mention, Lo Wood (who was going to start) should be ready to go.

Beginning next year:

Lo Wood with 2 years eligibility,
Baratti with 3 years eligibility,
Shummate with 3 years eligibility,
Jackson with 1 year eligibility,
Russel with 3 years elegibility,
Eliar Hardy with 3 years elegibility.

2 years, and maybe not even then if he can't get a medical redshirt.

Jackson only has one year.

Lo has two years of eligibility left. He doesn't need a medical redshirt. You have five years to play four starting during the first season you are enrolled. He didn't redshirt his freshman year, but he won't play at all this year, so this year is his redshirt year. He'll play next year (his fourth year) and the year after (his fifth year).

Now, if he sustains another injury that keeps him out for all or most of an entire season, he'll need a medical redshirt to get a 6th year.

Collinsworth has two years remaining, assuming he doesn't play this year. Same deal as Lo Wood.

Badger apparently has five years to play four (and since he seems to be redshirting this year, he will get all five). I'm a little unsure about this, as it seems to me that the clock should have started when he enrolled in the spring of 2010, but apparently it did not. Or at least that's what people have said in his thread. Apparently it only starts when you are enrolled during a football season? Don't get the rationale. Anyway he has four years of eligibility remaining.
