Does this really surprise anyone when our 3/4 of our wins were against Big Ten opponent? It seems like every week they have been ripping the Big Ten for bad losses and bad performances. We will have to win 2 of 3 from Oklahoma, USC and Stanford to get the respect we deserve.

This.

I honestly don't think it will matter who we beat this year. If we were to go undefeated and face Alabama/LSU they would still not give us credit for making it there. They would somehow turn our schedule, (which I can honestly say all sports writers either put as the #1 or #2 hardest schedule in the country) into being a cupcake schedule. We just need to hope for an undefeated matchup against Stanford and pull out a win.... and maybe, just maybe they will recognize ND as a serious contender.

The press - corksuckers...

And here is why:

Last year, Alabama and LSU play to a 9-6 ending score. The press cites this as just a good 'ole SEC rivalry where the defenses stifle each other's offense....

This year, ND and Michigan play to a 13-6 ending score. The press cites this as just a poor year for Michigan and ND not playing anyone special yet.....

Yes....haters gonna' hate.... fvck them all.

Didn't MSU and UM BOTH win big bowl games last year? Didn't MSU beat Georgia in one of those games? Didn't UM beat VT a dominant force in college football for the past decade?

FvCK these haters. I'm so sick of defending this team only to have them take another angle at us. Nobody wants to see us do well yet everyone wants to talk about us. GTFO and worry about your own teams and we'll play bad, against terrible teams, keep winning, pulling in recruits from all over the country and stay relevant because of all the haters. If these stupid analysts would have just stopped writing about ND like they stopped writing about Pitt long ago, we would have been dead a long time ago.

I can't even open that and read it. Anyway posts above were enough to get the gist. I knew this was going to happen once they turned it over the 4th time. I actually had a UM fan call me last night and say "our defense is better than yours."

I just want to say thank you to Denard for "giving" us the game. I mean, he could have thrown to his open receiver but instead decided to throw it to our defense. He said, I don't really like UM anyway so here's to ND.

PSH. BS. Our defense created opportunities. They were in position and flying to the ball. THAT'S why UM had so many turnovers.

"The power is in the South" For those of us who are older than dirt, this is about as fresh as an old sandwich gathering mold in a corner of the fridge. I remember that sandwich when it was new. Ara was coach, and the constant criticism was that he played weak opponents and would never beat a great Southern team like Alabama. Well, Ara and Dan Devine together went 4-0 against Bear Bryant. Couch needs a better editor.

Yeah, offense was crappy, but you'll have that when the opposing defense is trying more to stop the run. Plus your biggest receiving threat is used as a blocker most of the game.

Defense looks good though, theres no doubt. We may not have all the personnel that Alabama has, but we had an even better game plan to stop Michigan's offense and it led to less points on the board for them...and our defense had to be on the field longer than Alabama's.

I agree that we'll need to win 2 of the 3 games against USC, Stanford, and Oklahoma to get respect from everyone, and thats to be expected I think. We also can't lose any of the games that we're favored in. It's a tough road, but with a little improvement offensively I think it's within the realm of possibility.

The funny thing is we beat a top 10 team and a team that came in as pre-season #8 (and we held that team to less points than Alabama did... for whatever that's worth).

These other top 10 teams? With the exception of Stanford, they have played no one markedly better than MSU. And certainly not a second team as good as Michigan. To call our 4-0 start "weak" is beyond idiotic with context to the cupcakes most teams play to start the season. For instance, yeah FSU got a nice win over Clemson.... their other 3? Wake Forest, Murray State, Savannah State. LSU? North Texas, Idaho, Washington, and a laughably poor showing against a bad Auburn team.... and they received a first place vote. Oregon? Arkansas State, Tennessee Tech, Fresno State, and Arizona.....

The bottom line is we've played a much tougher schedule up to this point than ANYONE ELSE IN THE TOP 10.... so to call us out for playing "easy opponents" is ignorance at best, pure hatorade at worst.

For the first time since 97 98 the haters are scared.
The phoenix is rising and that scares the haters.
Very few schools can compete with the academics.
Very few can compete with the tradition.
No school in the country can combine winning, tradition, and academics the way ND can.

They said we were a delusional fan base with unreal expectations.
ND was dieing they were our life support always talking about ND and how we'll never get back to the elite of CFB.
Tuning into our games because it was fun to watch ND lose.
You guys say frick the haters I say thank you.
I'm embracing the hate.

Not even clicking. Don't do it, fellas.
Thanks-I didnt bite-but we all knew it would be this way. Silly stuff- really silly. The haters are scared. Hate usually comes from fear. As many have said here on this site Notre Dame on a roll will scare the people who like semi pro football. Its been a while since college football has seen a competitive quality Notre Dame team. No matter what happens from here on out these guys have earned respect. Wait till you see how this thing really builds threw the subwau alums if they go to OU without a loss. Miami will be a very tough game.

my hunch is that many of you here dont remember (were/are too young) to remember when ND was at the top of the college football world...it was pre internet, espn taking over the sprts world...if we can keep this thing going you (and us that "remember") are going to be in for a one hell of a ride...i cant imagine what the new media hype machine will or might do with an ND team nipping at an SEC teams heels in a BCS game or an NC game. it would be (what is that word you kids like to use....EPIC).

So we have to go 11-1 to get any respect?

I think it comes down to winning a BCS bowl and looking the part. We can lose 2 games, maybe three and get a BCS bid. Win a BCS game and we arrive a year earlier than most thought we could, especially if we beat an SEC team.

I had us at 9-3 with a 3-1 start. I officially have to revise that to 10-2 now. USC and OK look more beatable but Stanford moves into the tough column. 1-2 out of that is my minimum, 2-1 is hard to make the case yet. Even if we go 2-1 there, Pitt/BYU/WF/BC/Miami all have potential to surprise us with our pants down and throw in a disappointing loss.

At the end of the day, it is POSSIBLE for us to beat each team on the schedule. More possible today than I thought entering the season.

The ranks of the unbeaten will take a huge turn in the next few weeks, and we get to sit one of them out and regroup, I think at the perfect time.

I fall into the category your are describing. Too young and too new of a fan to have experienced the true glory days of ND football.

That being said I know that all of those successful years were based on stout defense. We have a defense that is one of the best in the country. It is tested (i.e. we've played real teams), and although young at some positions, extremely skilled and hungry. I think these guys will play their hearts out for Manti and I don't see us going backwards at all. A defense like we have will keep us in ANY game against ANY team. Let's see where they can take us!

He's writing for them. There are a lot of people that root against us on Saturdays. They need crap to read as well.

Greg Couch is formally of the Chicago Sun Times. He was always a contrarian in the mold of Skip Bayless, but without the insight.

BTW it is a column, not an article. But he ignores a great deal of context. Maybe he wants back into his old S-T job, writing for a paper that has gone down the drain.

Since when did Skip Bayless gain any insight?

Methinks Couch and Weis have an unpleasant history. Why was Weis' name even brought up? He's been gone for three years.

Yeah. I mean I see what he's trying to do, saying that we have had 2 previous coaches we hyped and they eventually let us down. But Couch is a moron. He says in the same article that Kelly is different, and developing the players (thus differentiating him from Weis), but then keeps trying to implicitly assume that we are hyping Kelly too much also and it will eventually collapse.

And this is the dumbest quote from the article: "Just remember what got you here. You once believed in Weis and his genius. Kansas, by the way, led Northern Illinois late Saturday. Then, it fell apart and lost."

Probably one of the worst, most retarded articles I've read. Even apart from how ridiculous it is in content, it doesn't make sense. He goes back and forth of their good...their really totally NOT good...Brian Kelly is good, Weis is still terrible. Its just an unbelievably pathetic article.
Wow is right.
