where does this come from? there have been how many actual interviews with him? 2? tops?
i just dont know where EH would get this notion. sure, big time recruit. dramatic recruitment. but, much more humble than jimmy clausen. i think he believes in his ability, but still has to be swimming a bit and that would allow doubt that he would be ready this year. i'm sure he wants to get on the field this year. they all do. but, i would think he would gladly red shirt <a-hem> maintain a year of eligibility, even if he doesnt stay on for the fifth--where do you question the motive?

Think all he meant was his talent lends one to believe he would not be here all 5 years, not his attitude or demeanor. Similar thinking with a Tuitt, Ishaq, Lynch, Neal, etc. They are just way too talented to forego the NFL for that long. Look at all the fuss that was made about Floyd, Manti and Eifert all coming back after their junior years.

Does Kiel have a real shot at being the starter next year even if golson succeeds? I know were all sick of Qb controversies, and we want golson to leave no doubts for next year, but gunner may be too good to keep on the bench for the next 4 years

Kiel is an elite talent. Unless Golson just kills it this year Kiel will be knocking at the door next year IMO. Staff raves about him

Yeah, based on BK's assertion that game management seems to be a concern still with Golson and AH, I think Kiel takes over next year, if not by the end of this year.

Nothing against Kiel, but I will be upset if Golson (or Hendrix) hasn't taken the reigns by the end of the year and made it clear that it is their job going into next year. Inconsistency from the qb position is not something that I enjoy.

Now if Kiel turns out to be the next Andrew Luck and bulldozes his way into the starting 11 that is one thing, but I don't enjoy an annual qb controversy.

I'm torn.

Part of me thinks it would be awesome to get Kiel some reps early in case, God forbid, Golson isn't able to start next year for one reason or another (injury, performance, etc.). That way, we have a semi-experienced and uber-talented sophomore QB ready to take the reins.

The other part of me thinks that if, God forbid, Golson suffers a season-ending injury in early October, I'd much rather have Hendrix come in because I think he gives us the best chance to win right now. However, if Kiel is taking the mop-up snaps, Hendrix would come in cold without any 2012 game experience.

I think it would be extremely difficult to have Kiel be the one taking mop-up snaps while Hendrix is your backup option at QB. I do not envy Brian Kelly right now.

Probably from the coaches. You know he knows them better than you or I. It is what I would do.

In my book there are two reasons to redshirt a player; physical development, or playbook.

Most offensive linemen are the former. Most skill or big skill are at least the latter.

A stacked position is not a good reason for a redshirt. Play 'em or trade 'em.

With Kiel, all he needs is experience as it has been proven he has the brains (quick study) and the physical ability. This guy is either going to be playing in the NFL or go down tryin'. He will not be at Notre Dame in year 5, maybe not even in year 4.

If it's possible, all we have to do is watch the practice reps.

I'm no good at predictions, but my cracked crystal says Andrew gets the #2 practice reps the rest of the way out, and Gunner runs the scout team. That would tell me all I wanted to know about 2012.

Even if Everett would get hurt, my cracked crystal says that a game-ready Andrew would come in, allowing Coach to keep QB runs in the offense, with a game-ready Tommy as back-up, and Gunner still running the scout team.

And for 2013 we will see. If Everett is "just good", the battle will be on. If Everett is "great", it's Everett. Gunner will then go to #2 with maybe some play to keep him involved.

You have to remember too, Everett is a mobile and thin QB. It would be a huge shock, no matter how good he is, for him to start every game for the next four years because of injury risk. Gunner will get his chance...

I think a lot of us overlooked Kiel coming out of HS. Kid was a 5 star QB.

Andrew Luck redshirted at Stanford. With absolutely sh*t talent in front of him. Just sayin'

Kids mature enough to take the patient learning approach almost always turn out best in the long run.

Where and when did BK assert this? That's not your opinion, you are stating an unsourced fact.

Where and when did BK assert this? That's not your opinion, you are stating an unsourced fact.

How about after the spring game? If you want to say he has (EG) learned how to manage a game in the few months since, fine, but if BK is an "unsource" well then I don't know what to tell you. If you're upset that I lumped AH in my comment, I'm sorry you feel that way and I shouldn't have done it.

Golson burned two timeouts while struggling to get his offense set on a 75-yard field goal drive. Kelly said there would have been many more problems with getting a play off in time in had he not been helping line things up from the sideline.

Part of his problem was not understanding the sideline signals and relaying them to his teammates fast enough. He’s also steps behind junior Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix in grasping the mechanics that make Kelly’s offense move. Those are the issues he’ll be in the lab trying to sort out this summer.

“Everett cannot manage the game in the manner that he needs to,” Kelly said. “You can see all of [the quarterbacks] need work, and we’re excited to keep bringing them along. This summer they’ve got to help themselves. The guy that really commits to the details this summer is probably going to the be the guy who’s going to be the starter.”

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson knows where to improve

I think the point is that Everett has improved in that area SINCE the spring game, according to the coaches.

Things evolve, especially for athletes at this stage of their careers. Your assertion was called "unsourced" because it was assumed you were referring to current circumstances. Maybe "outdated" would have been more apt. (Although the assertion was still "unsourced" in your post because you didn't mention what you were referring to, which would have saved the confusion.)

Where did I get what, my opinion?

Yeah, based on BK's assertion that game management seems to be a concern still with Golson and AH, I think Kiel takes over next year, if not by the end of this year.

The highlighted. It isn't your opinion. It is statement of a fact. Where did you hear it?

Edit: Should have read the rest of the posts first. See, even the best make mistakes!! Síochána!

Per Keith Arnold

With Rees in the rotation at QB expect Kiel to sit out the year.

If Golson keeps playing like last night the rest of the season, Kiel will be the favorite to win the starting job next year?

Golson is a freshman, he is allowed a bad quarter or 8 in his freshman season. He will be fine. He is learning on the job.

I have a feeling that ^ is a good possibility that Kiel has a shot if this continues.

On the other hand, Golson is still learning the science aspect and I anticipate after the bye week, we will see an offensive improvement.
