I think it says a lot about Dayne that he chose to go to KU instead of taking the easier way out and playing at Wisconsin for a year. I hope he can get his stats up and get Charlie a few Ws.

but he shouldn't have ever been yanked during the USF game

Amen. Not impressed with Kelly. IMO, he messed up Crist....now he's doing it to Golson. ND might have gotten the win, but it was a terrible decision. Can't imagine what that did to Golson's confidence, if he wasn't really hurt. Now he'll be looking over his shoulder waiting to get the hook. Awful move.

Everyone keeps saying this, if something as small as this messes up his confidence then it was not very solid to begin with.

Aside from that he's (understandably) more comfortable playing for Charlie Weis than Bret Bielema, what exactly does it say about him?
I guess playing QB for a team with Big 10 title hopes is "the easier way out" than playing for a Big 12 doormat. But not necessarily. He'd probably face better defenses in the Big 10. And he'd play in some big games, which is important.
Don't get me wrong. I wish the best for Crist, and I hope he does well and gets drafted and plays on Sunday for years to come. But I don't know that there's any great judgements to be made about where a guy decides to play his fifth year.

Dayne got pulled because he had no confidence. He was the proverbial deer in the headlights during the USF game. Total panic. I'm sure it messed him up more to get pulled, but that's because he wasn't sturdy in the first place. Golson is a different animal. Cool and poised. Getting replaced for 2 minute drill isn't going to phase him. And, in fact, if actually plays bad and gets the hook in a game (as opposed to what happened this time), he will bounce back. That should be the way it is for every person on this team.

Crist became a political pawn in the game between the for and anti Kelly crowd. People assumed because Crist was big and tall with a strong arm (a surefire way to get a 4-5 star rating from HS ratings agencies) that he would be able to be developed to be a consistent and accurate QB. Kelly couldn't do it. Kelly's offense and handling of Crist was blamed. Now, Weis-who has an offense supposedly suited to Crist- is struggling to develop him to be consistent and accurate. Because of his size and arm strength Crist will keep getting chances. Let's hope he makes the most of them.

I watched all of the first game. I missed the Rice game. From what I saw in game one, Dayne was who we thought he was (see Denny Green). He has a cannon, is often inaccurate (usually high), and is very inconsistent. There is actually some offensive talent at KU...I know that sounds silly. But, the skill positions are decent.

I wish Dayne the best for him and for my Jayhawks. So far, he's been just okay.

Wish the best for Dayne, but I think pulling him during the USF game was warranted. We had a big goose-egg going into the half and Kelly has to do something to change up our fortunes. Tommy came close to bringing us back. This, along with the untimely fumble against USC (Not that Tommy didn't have his share of oopsies) kind of cemented Dayne as backup. Despite his physical gifts, Dayne just didn't seem as accurate as he should have been.

C'mon Dayne, I really want you to do well, but you're shooting yourself in the foot. That INT was bad.
