First of, Pardon all grammatical errors cause im in my accounting class so im typing this and taking notes at the same time so i apologize.

As the title says im a student at Michigan State. However, I've grown up in a Notre Dame household my father was a Linebacker in 78 playing his first two years then tearing every ligament possible in his left knee resulting in him leaving the game. So all that I ask is no school bashing.

As a fan of both teams I still will be a Notre Dame fan this weekend in the stands. This is due to if MSU looses it doesnt hurt us as bad because it's and non-conference matchup

About the game:

First off, I believe Notre Dame matches up amazingly with MSU. MSU has zero passing threats at QB,WR, and TE. (one exception is the WR transfer from UT but hasn't played) This is huge for us due to our sketchy secondary that we all know about. We can easily beat spartys OL due to a lot of inexperience and of course our terrific front 7. The question is, "Can we stop LeVeon Bell?" Who i believe is top 3 back in college football and a complete man child.

For us to win we must:
Stop LeVeon
Handle the blitz from Lewis, Allen, and Gholston
Run the ball effectively (MSU has the best cb duo in the big ten)
throw the deep ball (Their CBs love to press)
Get in Maxwell's head

If we accomplish these things i believe we will win

Thanks for the insightful take.
I know LeVeon Bell pretty much beat Boise State all by himself. But I don't think he's going to be able to do that against us, especially if, as you say, they've got a somewhat green O Line.
If we can move the ball, I like our chances. Will be a close game either way.

It looks like it's reality, helped by the fact that Teo is standing across from what look like db's or rb's. Still he dwarfs them in comparison

I'm telling you... special teams and turnovers decide this game. I agree a ton with the OP that if there is one type of offense we're designed to stop it's this type of run heavy scheme... especially if KLM is full go.

I only watched part of the MSU v Boise game, so I appreciate your take, I think you are dead on about Bell, guy is a beast, we will need to converge on the ball, gotta do a better job of wrapping up this week. I think this will be another close physical game like last week, only in a very hostile environment. I think if we find a way to win we could get to the by week undefeated though.

You have to bet they're going to quick-pass to the WR as a run-option. That's what I would do after watching the Purdue film.

With all due respect.....if you think MSU has "zero" threat at WR/TE/QB not sure if you've been watching the games. Young, inexperienced, raw? Yes. Zero threat? That's pushing it. Regarding TE.....if you don't know who Dion Sims is - he will make his presence known Saturday I'm pretty sure.

Based on the Boise St. game I think this dude's pretty good. Hands is probably best trait.

Yup real soft hands for a guy that goes 6'5 and nearly 300. He deceptively quick as well and blocks very well. I know analysts go crazy over comparisons....but he has been compared to a bigger Antonio Gates.

Given the last ten years, I have a hard time walking into this game feeling optimistic. MSU always plays us like it is their Super Bowl and the atmosphere there at night is down right scary. I would not take a child to that stadium as an ND fan and if I were attending myself I would want a very large friend or ten to come with me.

That being said, I hope the Purdue showing was part jetlag, part looking past them and we bring our A+ game to pound these fools in the trenches. We hold our own in the trenches we win, we dominate in the trenches and I start to feel REALLY good about the rest of the season.

On offense
I want to see Wood,Theo,Tyler, and GA3 on the field at the same time with Niklas blocking.I want us to take some shots deep to open up the run and the middle for Tyler. Also some screens if MSU is overly aggressive on D.

Defense

Gotta tackle and wrap. I think with our rotation of guys up front we give Bell all he can handle. If we get ahead and force them to pass their qb will be picking mud out of his throat.

Sims is the real deal. He is a total match up nightmare, IMO not at much of a receiving threat as Eifert (who is?) but a much better in line blocker... He is a gargantuan of a human being.

I'm with Lax in that this game will be decided on ST And turnovers. I also think that whichever team's qb makes the least amount of mistakes comes out on top. We both have first year starters at qb, but Maxwell has had much more time I his system and has the home crowd.

I have this terrifying image of us burning all three time outs on our opening drive. Saturday is going to be a huge measuring sick for EG.

As for stopping Bell, traditionally MSU has had a hard time with the 3-4. I don't think he will run for more than 90 on us, which to me is a victory. If we keep him to less than 90 and win the turnover battle we get the W, 21-17.

There all unproven WR that don't know how to run good routes. And I actually know dion very well my good friend who is on the team lives with him and I hangout with them a lot. The thing is he is very lazy and doesn't like to be hit. Also he is known to zone out if he isn't active early in the game.

Can you work on spreading some sort of infection around the MSU team? Maybe some laxitives in their drinks Saturday morning?

Come on, man. You are in the enemy camp. Help the cause!

Great point. I can see this being a 10-7 kinda game where one play or one scoring drive in the 4th quarter, decides it.

As said before it comes down to the basics. Stop the run and win the TO & penalty battle. I am more concerned with us being able to run the ball than stopping the run. I too am hoping it was a little jet lag and looking past Purdue. The Purdue game could be a wakeup call for us. If it is I see us winning.

My loss prediction
*we lose a fumble in michigan state territory
*Michigan State gets a big play on a kick off (I thought our coverage was suspect in the purdue game)
*Michigan State runs the ball with some success leaving themselves alot of managable 3rd downs.

Defenses both play very good games but the difference in the game is going to come down to turnovers and special teams. On the road against a top 10 team we have to be flawless, and with this young team in its first very hostile evironment I think we make a couple mistakes that are hard to over come on the road.

My win prediction-
*keep Bell in check and force Michigan State into 3rd and longs
*cause two turnovers with either Int's or strip sacks
*sustain a couple long drives for touchdowns and then break a few big gainers that lead to points
*If we get to 27 points we win.

Go Irish.

I look for the playbook to be opened just a little bit more each week. I also think our front 7 should keep Bell in check.

Like last year, this is a statement game for ND and I think we take care of business in E.L.

It's time for a sweep of the Michigan schools. "No mercy."

Cierre Wood is going to be a HUGE game changer on Saturday. He is going to help Golson read blitzes whick will be a big help. Cierre being back gives me a lot more confidence

Yeah but Cierre Wood is probably better at it considering he has been at the same position at Notre Dame. Theo kept switching from running back, to receiver, and now back to running back

If we stop the run and force them to throw we will win. I really believe it will be that easy in my opinion

I think our offense comes out a little more aggressive this week. I also have a feeling that Chris Brown, GA3, and Davonte Neal will be involved. Thats a lot of speed to handle, and if I were a defensive coordinator, I'd be worried about leaving any of my defenders on islands with speed like that.

I expect to see much more crossing patterns and screens mixed with some long shots to open up the run. I also expect our line to play significantly better with less confusion

A big play would be HUGE in this game, I don't see us being too conservative. I think Kelly will take his shots.

We also need to win the field position battle. I felt like we were constantly trying to drive 80 yards against purdue. hows msu's punter?

I'm also thinking we see more of the frosh speed this week, especially Neal on offense - Kelly lit up again today when discussing Neal. I feel like BK tried keeping it as basic as possible against Purdue as to not show all the cards for the big matchup with MSU. I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised.
