Say what you want about Tommy, but when the pressure is on Tommy is ice cold and always has been. Props to him for a great drive to secure the W.

I gotta say, when I saw him put his helmet on I thought we were done and Kelly had just made the worst decision of his career.

Hats off to the kid for shouldering that drive..

Rees did a great job. The boos mostly came from the student section.

I'm ecstatic that we won but at the same time kinda disappointed that Golson didn't finished the job. Having Rees in there reminded me that we're back in the same place we were at the past couple years. He's good but he doesn't have much upside as a QB. This is suppose to be a new year with fresh faces taking ND to new heights. Don't want to see Rees starting again, which, I think Kelly wants to do.

False. Kelly has said ad nauseam that there are going to be growing pains with Golson. We are in it for the long haul with Golson. You don't bench a kid after his second career start (and home debut) when he throws for near 300 yards, 67% completions, a touchdown and zero interceptions, and a rushing touchdown.

Z Martin also said after the game that the team is 100 percent behind Golson going forward as the starter.

WE ARE 1-0 WHEN TOMMY GETS IN THE GAME WOOOO TOMMY IS 1-0!!!!
Not so fast my friend: Michigan game when he was a freshman, and USF last year.

Maybe they were booing because they wanted to see Golson because they thought he was doing a good job. Still dont like the booing though.

Agree. Class act. Everyone who boo'd him owes him a beer (not at once, throughout the year).

Nice... Though I don't think they bood him, but rather the decision on the change... I say this because I would have too (with zero knowledge of a Goldon injury). Either way.... Win is a win.... Well done

Whichever the case may be, we need to show more faith in Kelly, his staff, and our players. His mistakes notwithstanding, is there anyone who more wants to win that game and prove himself there than Rees? Is there anyone with more on the line there than Kelly. I admit that I (not knowing about the injury to Golson) was shocked/horrified when I saw #11 on the field. With that said, I was pissed that the crowd (read: us in the student section) booed him. As fans we are all tired of waiting and we all have high expectations for this group, but, damn fellas, let's support our team. Not sure what to feel about that entire situation or how to wrap this up but I was really disappointed with the fans (mainly the student section, of which I am a part of) today.

We got the win. Hats off to Tommy. Way to accept your role and come through in the cluth. Congrats on the game ball

Oh yeah, and, you have to feel for Tommy a little, right? That's gotta hurt being booed when you come out there. Kid hasn't done anything wrong this year and if Kelly is being truthful then he has done nothing but help his competitors. Eh, c'mon ND fans. We're so much better than booing Tommy in that situation

Tommy Rees is a ****in stud....he's got brass ones the size of basketballs....I thought the booing of him was embarrassing

That explains why he can't run.

The booing was embarrassing and stupid.

The game is on the line and the fans boo the guy the coach entrusts the game to. Way to show your support. Way to encourage him. Unbelieveable.

Yep, booing was sad... I'm not a "Tommy as a starter" fan, but I'm a fan none the less. Always said he was a baller, just physically / skill challenged if that's the politically correct term. It was the right call and TR delivered. Hoping Golson is ready for next week!

He entrusted the game to Rees plenty of times last season. Maybe they shouldn't have booed so lustily, but I can't say I blame them. It looked like Kelly had pulled Golson because of the fumble, and obviously, the students wouldn't know about EG's injury. So from their perspective, the talented first-year student body favorite makes one mistake and gets pulled for the campus pariah who turns the ball over like it's his job and never gets pulled.

Mother****ing Tommy Rees. 3-8 for 35 yards! He got us the win though so big props.

Not to nitpick, I believe two of his throws were straight into the dirt to stop the clock. So he really was 3 for 6 (let me know if I'm wrong). The one to niklas was just off. I'm not sure what to think about the throw to Goodman, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

And it wasn't just 35 yards. It was 35 yards in the last two minutes and no timeouts, with the game on the line, without having taking any meaningful reps all summer until the last couple days, it was against a dline that was making us look silly at times, and it was with coming into boos from his own fans. If the doesn't deliver (with some luck too), think about how this season looks.

The guy just is an absolute leader and mentally tough son of a gun. It's just too bad he doesn't have the physical tools for this level of competition on a regular basis.

Still stupid. It looked like ... Did they boo when they finally noticed Eifert was playing? Or when any of the other injured starters were replaced?

They made an assumption and like the expression goes ...

Regardless you down an athlete that needs to deliver on the final drive. Let me know which motivational course, management course, or daily practice refers to booing as a motivational tool?

Rees was booed him when when he was inserted for Crist as a true freshman. I was moderating IE game board and it went into meltdown. I posted asking if it was possible that Crist had an injury or equipment problem requiring a substitution. Fans railed without knowing anything Kelly was randomly inserting another QB then. And they did it again. Turned out both times the starter had an injury.

Rees never gets pulled? He was replaced by both Hendrix and Crist last year, AFA, USC, FSU ... . He was replaced as the starter by Golson this year based on merit which Golson demonstrated Saturday. And which Kelly acknowledged post game when he noted Golson will start next week.

Your pariah comment says volumes. Only Quinn and Clausen have put up better numbers than Rees of all the ND QBs. And Rees accomplished it with a lot less athletic ability and with jerks in the stands. BTW, Golson is a first year starter but he's the same age Rees was last year when he was the starter.

Go to an NFL game and boo the pros. ND is family and Tommy is a part of that family. You don't boo your brother.

Those fans (students?) today were worthy of the vomiting drunks at LSU not ND.

To be fair, Kelly didn't have a 2nd string QB prepared in case Crist went down, and he went down. Can't really hang the USF game on Tommy either. He didn't start that game, and he nearly brought us back from a terrible 1st half to win that game. Regardless, Golson is our starting QB and I'm behind him. On the other hand, I have no problem with Rees coming in as the "closer." I equate it to Chris Leak and Tim Tebow at Florida.
