Well, Luers won in a nail biter last night. Jaylon scored 2 rushing tds and Luers won the game by completing a 15+ yard 4th down, then the following play a 45 yard td pass with 7 seconds on the clock. Exciting game!
Jaylon played....well, he seemed hot and cold. He had some amazing plays...in fact his 3 blitzes all ended with him hitting the QB (2 broke up the pass, the other was a sack). His coaches, however, did NOT put him in position to succeed throughout the game. He did whiff entirely on one tackle, and then let a little guy break out of his weak arm tackle later, but every time he made a mistake he would come back the next play and KILL IT.
Again, looked excellent in pass coverage. Had a batted ball and a lot of tackles again. Sometimes it looks like he's taking a few plays off, but when he decides to play hard on a play...it's scary!
Overall, I'd say he wasn't as good as he should have been tonight, but he also wasnt put in a position to succeed at all! All the fans were complaining about the coaches lack of Jaylon usage on both offense and defense.
For example, 2:15 left in the game. Luers down by 3. Have the ball on their own 10 with a qb who hasnt done much all game, top receiver sidelined with an injury, and chronic dropping syndrome on offense. the defense lines up 3 D-linemen and 2 LBs...safeties both spread out wide to cover the slots. Literally the entire middle of the field WIDE OPEN. Jaylon in the backfield. What do you call here? .....You're right, we should run Jaylon up the middle so he can take it 90 yards to the house. NOPE! 3 passes (with Jaylon in to block) and 3 incompletions. Wish Jaylon were put in a better situation to succeed this season, but so far it's been disappointing.
But guys, we have a good one on our hands. He's extremely talented out there. You can just tell he's on another level when he plays!
