Stay strong Isaac. You're the defensive Big Man in this class, and defensive Big Men play early and star at Notre Dame.

It seems he has been forgotten in this class, but then I realize how great of a DE this guy is. Remember when we thought we would get Rochell and Sheritt?

I guess my point is I keep forgetting this guy and he is probably the 2nd or 3rd best player of the class. This guy is a STUD DE. Makes me happy to remember something awesome that I forgot.

Big fish, little pond

I think any assessment of Isaac Rochell's potential as a stud DE should be tempered by the competition he, and his Eagle's Landing teammates face in GA division 1A football. Here is a list of some of the schools that Isaac was able to pancake block and tackle for a loss - First Presbyterian Day, Our Lady of Mercy, Whitefield Academy, Strong Rock Christian, Holy Innocents Episcopal. Contrast that competition with what Carl Lawson(Milton,GA), Joey Bosa(St. Thomas Aquinas), and Al-Quadin Muhammad(Don Bosco,NJ) go up against each week in their high school programs. For this summer's football camp circuit, Isaac was a no show. That being said, I think Isaac Rochell is a perfect recruit for this class.

Alabama and the rest of the SEC seemed worried about his level of competition too.

He did the camp circuit last year which is how he got all the offers he has. He found a school he loved in ND and said he just didn't see a reason to go to all these camps anymore.

Blame is AD, he can only punish what is put in front of him. As far as missing the camp circuit, its not like those things are free. I would be curious to hear some insight on how those things work as far as cost. Not that travel costs are insignificant as well.

This kid is a big fish in any pond.

He has certainly got the frame but needs some major development to play at the next level. I have no doubt he will be very good after being coached up with our staff and players.

I understand your point about how he plays a lower level of competition. I understand that you have no knowlege of his past performance at camps, which is how he was rated where he was. I also understand thay you don't understand Kelly's staff's evaluation process, which weeds out the underperformers pretty well. I just don't undersand your last statement. Why would Isaac Rochell be a perfect recruit for this class?

More than just a football player

More than just a football player

If I could to point to one former Notre Dame student/athlete, and say to a potential recruit, this is what Notre Dame football is all about, it would be Alan Page. To be all that you can be, you sometimes have to shop down a different aisle. And in Rochell's recruitment, Notre Dame made that clear to both Isaac and his father.

I like this thinking much better than your previous post, well said and Reps.

Not suprised. If you don't go to camps than you don't move up the rankings.

What are we interested in ratings or performance or how they play once they get on campus, because with the last two years I think the Kelly machine is batting 1.000!

Not when our guys move up because they did well in camps. Then you never hear our fans complaining...
Look NDinL.A....I like you man, but I want it this way. If our guys do well in camps they move up. If our guys don't do well in camps they stay the same. If you guys don't go to camps they either stay the same or move up.

I don't see anything wrong with that logic.

No idea what you liking me has to do with anything in this thread. I never said anything about you...all I did was respond to how you think it was whack that he fell. All I said is there are ND fans who get all pissed when ND players drop in ratings, and get all hyped when they rise.

As for Rochell...sorry, if guys like Elmer and Montelus rise after killing it in camps (which, since you put yourself in this discussion, you were pumped about), then other guys have to fall. Simple math. And while it is whack that guys who don't do camps have to fall, we can't have it both ways. If someone rises, someone has to fall...

You're a bit off on the logic here. For a player to move up, the players in front of him correspondingly have to move down. So if ten players behind Rochell impress in camps and move up past him... he correspondingly has to move down 10 spots.... even if his rating doesn't change.

I totally agree though that being injured, etc. at a camp shouldn't negatively affect your rating... at worst you should stay where you were. However, running a poor 40 or exposing a flaw in your game absolutely should be able to get you bumped down.

@lax and @ndinL.A.

I should have used sarcasm font. I was just joking and busting your balls L.A. I was trying to be a stupid homer who thinks their teams recruits should always be rated higher no matter what there performance indicates.

Did Montelus camp anywhere? Interesting that he moved up without a lot of summer exposure.

Yeah, he did. He and Elmer dominated at the Top Gun camp (were rated the top 2 linemen), and it's the main reason both moved up in the rankings.
