Looking for some healthy and humble discussion/debate.

Is the 2013 haul of LBs the best ever in ND history. I don't recall a group of more well rounded and higer ranked LB recruits. Stressing recruiting and potential, not against actuals.

Was the addition of AA enough, would the addition of another like Isaac Savaiinaea, Ogundeko, or Doug Randolph definitely put us over the top?

Have at it boys.

I wasn't aware ND had received any LOI's yet... miss something??

seriously, all smartass comments aside... that's how I feel, ask me again if this group all sign together.

The 4 LBs currently verballed to ND IMO are nothing less than 100% committed given their character and what they have said in interviews.

I can remember the same thing being said last year about two recruits in particular;) That being said, I hope that this group stays together. Jaylon will have a lot to do will all of this. He seems to be our most important recruit and our biggest recruiter.

- Perkins always seemed like a bad fit
- Darby kept saying: "100% ... for now"
- Tee and Greenberry kept taking visits
- I was suprised by the OLman, but the fact is that we switched OL coaches gave him some personal justification (I still wonder if things would have been diffent had all ND boards trashed Heistand for about a month after his hiring) and he was a kid with a "dream school" that was not ND.

Right now there are no bad fits, no 100- for-nows, no alternative dream schools, and nobody taking visits. If any of those happen, then I will doubt the kid until signing day.

I wouldn't go that far. Local kid who was coached by a former ND player. We knew his grades were borderline when he committed, and he decommited the day after mid-semester grades were released (hat tip to arrowryan). Pretty simple case of not having the grades. I bet he'd otherwise still be Irish.

- Tee and Greenberry kept taking visits

Same with Tee. He was 100% Irish, and had to leave due to grades. It's rumored that he still reps ND. Greenberry admitted that he committed to ND for the wrong reasons (to follow Tee), and I doubt he would have stuck around once Tee left anyway. He did us a favor by switching to Houston on signing day, rather than signing and transferring out.

Right now there are no bad fits, no "100% for nows," and nobody taking visits. If any of those happen, then I will doubt the kid until signing day.

To be fair, Montelus has been quoted as saying "100% committed for now". But I generally agree with you.

I like to worry about commits because getting too comfortable with them leads to heartbreak, but Jaylon Smith seems like he's ND all the way. He's the most important recruit and he makes this class. As long as we don't let any weirdos around Anzalone it seems like he'll be good too.

Honestly though... dialogue just like this has occured every single year I have been a member of this site... and every year the kids 'are different'...

talk to me when they all sign... I'd LOVE to be wrong.

I guess you can compare the recruting to the football season.

Call it the Irish personality for the last whatever years..."this is our year" "we are going to be awesome" then....................

But this year is different. I can just feel it. ;)

I like your stance a hell of a lot better... ;)

Here is what worries me... the schedule... if they go 7-5 with this schedule does everyone stay on board??? I hoping this is just really Nd's year and they can rattle off 9-10 wins... if they do that i think the class stays together for the most part...

I'll say this right now though... I'd bet my entire vbuck roll that at least one of the current verbals signs elsewhere and that we sign at least one kid that right now is on nobody's radar (hopefully a DB... :) )... again, happens every year

At this point in time as an Irish fan, signing isnt even enough for me. These guys will need to stay healthy and play for 3-4 years. I was a big fan of Dieon Walker, Yeatman, Reuland....etc and for me to get excited about a group of guys who may or may not pan out due to various reasons, this dialogue is premature. Lets sticky it and sit on till 2017.....

I think this is a healthy discussion. There are facts being laid out:
1. none of these guys are signed yet
2. there is still 8 months left in recruiting cycle
3. things change, especially with a high school boy.....etc.

I know the OP was talking about just recruiting but lets at least wait to see who we have before we get giddy. I agree with ACamp that the discussion is kind of rendered moot until we know who we actually have.

I am finally going to negative rep you. You've drowned the whole board in your ridiculous kool-aid for seven months and anytime someone has expressed anything that you would call "pessimistic" you go after them. Then, during the same time frame, you've made absurd comments about Jaylon Smith and Justin Brent -- questioning whether Jaylon was really as pro-ND as he said he was before he committed, and then whether a basketball scholarship to another school would sway Brent literally the same day he committed to ND. And now you're back on here complaining about the "pessimists" again.

Complaining about people discussing possible decommittments when just hours ago you suggested a player would decommit on the day he committed, which should be a time for positivity... I find something deeply and inherently wrong with that.

I think you have a habit of treating the board like it's your own personal twitter account. If you post every thought that jumps into your head at a given moment, you are bound to contradict yourself.

Either cool down your attacks on the "pessimists" or express more restraint in some of your knee-jerk posts.

no the problem is that you are not discussing the topic. I dont care about negative reps. I should negative rep most of you for getting off topic... again. This is a thread about the verbals we have, not about who is going to decommit. If you cant tell the difference, then I question your ability to have a healthy discussion.

If you want to talk about reps, I have already gotten some with people saying they agree that it is off topic.

I think you misunderstood my comment in the Jaylon Smith thread because I have never said anything bad for Jaylon, as for Justin Brent, I asked a question and gave a reason why I asked the question. Get a grip.

I would say you are the one throwing it off topic...

He asked if this was the greatest recruiting haul ever in terms of LBs... valid Q, but as of right now we haven't officially 'hauled' anyone. I would say that's a pretty significant point to make here... so yeah, it pertains to the original question, unlike the dialouge you and I are now having. Sorry if you and those who repped you don't agree (for the record I too was repped for my first post).

Guys, perhaps I should have said "potential" haul. I don't mind the decommit talk, but would really love to see people talk about the potential of this group if they stick, compared to previous LB classes.

the potential would be massive obviously... especially since they may even take another.

I'd wait a few years before we say this. Even though Jaylon and Anzalone look great and Mattingly and Deeb are damned good as well, they still haven't played. We could have 4 busts or 4 NFL players.

Who cares about the potential of high school juniors? Some of us are getting way ahead of ourselves.

Yet another voice of reason in the wilderness. I don't think I've been giddy since I was 28 and engaged. That didn't work out. She "de-committed" after 10 years.

dshans oftimes mentioned his dearly departed.

When asked for details about when he became a widower, he would succinctly reply, "Oh, she's not dead, she's just departed."

Which, I guess these days would make her a "silent de-commit".

Say goodnight, dick.

And she was far from silent. Sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to ME?

I really like our LB haul. Still need a elite CAT which I'm confident we will get. Wish we could have gotten a better Mike though. I'm not very high on Deeb.

Agree. His tape didn't look great. But hoping coaches based on potential they can see. Only has played football 3 years, only 1 at LB (2 at DE). Offered by FSU I think. And couldn't be a higher quality kid based on interviews. Wonder if he could go back to DE if gets a bigger.
