What's the right group of recruits for this year?

Both are 4 star CBs, 4 stars = elite to me. The coaching staff wouldn't be recruiting them if they didn't think they were elite CBs

Kinlaw has elite potential. Butler is a good prospect but doesn't have elite potential.

Your the one saying Elite so why don't you tell us. Butler is a 3 star on scout and rivals. Come on man you make claims like this all the time and have nothing to back it up. Kinlaw has elite potential and Butler is a solid pick up. Harvgreaves and Fuller are elite.

- I didn't bring up elite and I already stated my case for Butler before u asked

We have 2 elite CB already IMO, Rashad Kinlaw is perfect for our D and is a elite CB according to 247 ratings and Butler is due for a bump according to Wiltfong I think and has been invited to The Opening and Gridiron Kings.

There I said exactly what u and Philly said that Rashad is elite already but went furthur in saying if Notre Dame, 247 ( he'll get his 4th star) , The Opening, & Gridiron Kings think he has elite potential, that's good for me

1. I love the Butler and Kinlaw pickups. HUGE. Very good athletic guys that like STL said do fit Diaco's D. But no offense to those two but when you watch their "film" aka youtube HIGHLIGHT video Vernon Hargreaves/McKenzie Alexander (prob missed on spelling on both their names) are physically, athletically, skill wise way ahead of Butler or Kinlaw. Kinlaw has a highlight film of him playing Qb essentially running the wildcat.

However keep in mind in Diaco's D scheme and the front 7 personal we have ND doesnt need elite cbs. If you have a talent/deep Dline itll take you farther than anything. Obviously you dont have to blitz, you stop the run, and can sit back. ND has done very well with the front 7 in BKs time, and 2013 class is only going to provide depth and more talent. Butler and Kinlaw are perfect for Diacos D. Hargreaves would be a hell of a pickup and give even more to work with scheme wise.

DT I have no objections to picking one up this year, but next year itll more of a need. Diacos scheme is brilliant bc it does let ND get away with rotating kids in different spots. Prime example Troy Niklas last year played OLB, DT, DE. Tuitt/Lynch/Kona/Hounshell/KAP/Newman/EJ all flipped at DE/DT. Sure you need a Nix for 1st/2nd down, but at the sametime ND can get away with not having a Nix and sliding a Tuitt/Jarron/Day/Rochell down when the CAT has their hand in the ground. I mean essentially you have Tuitt, Hounshell, KAP, Day, Jones, Kona, and possibly Springmann able to play anywhere on the dline...That has to be a nightmare for a OC.

Elite kids are going to come from coaching. This staff has proven in their 2 years that they can more than coach up the kids. Itll be nice to have these recruiting classes get 4-5 years with Longo, same scheme, same coaches over their career.

I compromise, IMO Kinlaw and Butler have elite potential; Hargreaves, Fuller, Alexander etc have even higher potential

No one is elite before they even step on the field. Recruiting is a measure of potential. There will be busts and success stories

You just freaking said Butler and Kinlaw are elite. How old are you?

And then I said "I compromise". Saying someone is elite already is premature, elite potential is better to use. Delete potential my post and we are back to where we started.

I'm pretty sure we agree so I'm lost about why u are arguing.

Butler and Kinlaw are gonna be good, Hargreaves etc are gonna be better.

I dunno too. Remember hearing he's good in one area, not so good in another. Talking blocking vs. catching. I'm sure TP or GBD can toss some jewels at ya.

Kelly in one of the last presscons said that Koyack was coming along well on the in-line blocking part of it, just not totally there yet. Koyack is a tremendous talent and very strong --- yep, he has potential. And Alex Welch shouldn't be forgotten in this. I'll bet that he plays quite a bit this season.

Hargreaves would be the biggest need-filler and the most talented player left on the board. I hope Kelly and our current recruits put in a lot of work to try to get this kid

I would love to see the recruits make a push for Hargreaves, if and when he visits as they did with Anzalone. It would appear that made a big impression on Alex.

I don't think we get Hargreaves no matter what. My dream list though would be

Hargreaves
Alexander
Muhammad (from DB)
Treadwell or Bailey or Stringfellow (I dont think Stringfellow ends up at UW)
Ezekiel Elliott

However you guys want to pursue your analysis, I'd say subtract one scholarship from what you think. I'm betting Coach goes after a punter.

If, say, five spots remain:

One more d-lineman/d-end.
One more WR, ideally a big outside guy
Two corners
A power RB or RB/slot hybrid (can never have too many).
If six, I'd love to land another d-lineman or d-end. Another position where you can never have too much depth.

But, given the experience of the last few years, even as solid as this class seems, I'd figure one or two decommits over the next seven months. So got to keep a pot warm pretty much everywhere.

The Wish would be a RB, WR, a DE/OLB, CB, & Punter

RB: Folston, Mizzell, Elliott, Tenpenny, Muhammad
WR: Torii Hunter, Williams, Stringfellow
DE/OLB: Muhammad, Drennon, Cooper, Sherit
CB: Moore, Alexander
Punter: kid from O'Fallon, Auburn Commit

Bolded the most likely (right now doesn't look like we get a WR)
