Talk of Lynch, Darby, Greenberry, and Shepard (and for that matter Perkins and Decker)does not belong on this thread. This is Jaylon Smith's thread. The others are all gone and for a variety of reasons: some personal, some academic, and some possibly medical.

Grown men shouldn't be upset that a 17 year old kid changes his mind. It happens all the time. If you want to be upset, then you've got every right to be upset at the coaches who will lie, cheat, and over-recruit to get a competitve edge.

Do you still want Urban, Saban? Not me! They don't represent what Notre Dame is all about.

As for the subject of this thread, Jaylon Smith, he has proven himself to be worthy of 5 stars and a high rating. From everything I've heard or read about him, it seems he would be a great fit at Notre Dame, the perfect replacement for Manti Teo as a defensive leader of this team. I'd love for him to sign and return his LOI to Notre Dame next Spring.

Jaylon, if you're reading this thread, we'd love to have you as a student-athlete at the University of Notre Dame. Should you choose Notre Dame we look forward to your success both on and off the field.

For the rest of you, this is Jaylon's thread. Take the rest of the **** elsewhere.

Elton working with Smith. Wouldn't be working with him if he was a OSU commit.

Just don't mock each other, or you know, have shenanigans or what have you. Its frowned upon by the establishment.

No disrespect to Teo, I think Smith is the bigger need. We havent had a dominant pass rusher in some time now and I really think he could and will be that guy.

Also a good pass rusher will make our secondary look good and he will demand double teams

I think you may have missed my man Trinity's point-- he was just disappointed/exhausted by the ordeal with all those guys...not trying to compare J Smith to them as players/recruits/human beings.

Nailed it bro.. Don't know much about Jaylon other than a 5 star from Indiana. Man the Ordeal it was lol..

The fact that they are saying Smith over Te'o in any sense of the word gets me excited ;0

Technically... we had a good pass rusher last year. But I hear what you're spittin'...

I love Teo and he has had a great career here at ND (hopefully his last hurrah will be the best of it), but I think Jaylon is a slightly better prospect than Teo was. While Teo is bigger and stronger, Jaylon is faster with better instincts. Prospects like Jaylon don't come around very often.

If he commits, he is the biggest defensive recruiting win since I don't know when...

You guys don't give Te'o enough credit. Manti is a beast and has had a phenomenal impact as a leader on this football team. All-American and soon to be 1st round pick. Jaylon Smith hasn't played a down of college football. It's a little early to compare how big of a get these two gentlemen are. But don't get my words twisted. Jaylon will undoubtedly be a HUGE get for ND.

So was Te'o

Yeah I think getting Te'o in the first place has us sitting where we are today with Jaylon. I think what will hopefully benefit Jaylon is the pieces surrounding him are a step above talent wise than what Mant had comming in, at least in the front seven. But don't undervalue how big getting Manti was gentlemen, that was/is a huge get!

No one is discrediting Teo. We all love Teo and see him as the leader of the team.

But we are talking about which one is/was the bigger prospect. It's a legitimate discussion that isn't disrespectful to Teo.

What is a shame though.... is that they wont be able to play together. Now that would be something.

I'd lean to Smith over Teo coming out because of his versatility. He can play all 4 LB positions and RB at a extremely high level.

I could be convinced that Jaylon has greater ability than Manti, but it'd be much harder to convince me that, overall, Jaylon is the bigger "get." I say this because, at the time, there were many that were skeptical about Notre Dame's ability to recruit elite defensive players. We'd do alright on the offensive side, but I don't think we'd had a defensive recruit the caliber of Manti in some time. Manti helped change that perception and I'd say that we've had a few other defensive players in the same ballpark of talent since, Jaylon included. On a related note, I'd take into account the effect that Manti's commitment had on other similarly elite defensive recruits, once again, Jaylon (hopefully) included. I know that Jaylon has mentioned his admiration for Manti a number of times. So overall, perhaps Jaylon will end up having more of an impact on the field, but I think Manti the bigger "get" overall.

This is dumb, Smith is going to be a senior in HS and you are already saying he is better than Manti.

Again... no one is saying that. We are talking about which one is/was the bigger prospect.

I don't understand why people aren't getting the difference.

You cant compare them as college players because Jaylon isn't in college. We are comparing them as prospects, not players.
