Yeah, I hear you. I guess I'm just on the lookout for a kid to not be a primadonna and make a decision and stick with it. There actually were kids like that in the last class (Jones comes to mind, Mahone too, and I'm sure others), but they were unfortunately overshadowed by the Cali kids and the flaky lineman from Ohio.

yep, +

Baratti, Daly, Ferguson, Harrell, Prosise, Turner, Okwara, Day (all committed before the season). The type of guys you described are more the norm than the others; it's just that the Shep-Berry's, Decker's, and Darby's get more attention.

It's kind of like the people who don't want to fly because of 'all the planes that go down'; actually doesn't happen that often, but when it does it is very memorable

Has received offers from Nebraska (QB) and PSU. Not considering either.

On Tuesday he posted a 38 inch vertical. Yes you read that right. Up to 184lbs to.

Steal of the class. 6'1" with a electronic 4.41 40 and 38 inch vert.

So far, couldn't agree more. I feel about him the same way I felt about Chris Brown and Baratti last year. I think the sky is the limit for what he can develop into.

Agree with all this.

And side note, finally someone who seems to feel about Baratti like I do! I really think that he can grow into a STUD. One of my favorites from last class.

Baratti's a freak. If not for his race and a projected position change, he'd be a consensus 4:s:.

Based of my gut feeling. Plus, when Haden came out of high school he was listed as an athlete, even though he was playing Quarterback.

Then why doesn't he have more prestigious offers?

Because of his race and his projected position change. It's the same thing with Jordy Nelson in Green Bay. Everyone underestimated him because he was white and then he torched his opponents game after game. Barrati will be a stud. You watch.

I hope he is a stud, but I don't think coaches care about skin color and would have more than just Texas Tech for regional offers if he is such a stud.

I did forget about his position change, however and think that would have much more to do with his relatively short offer list much more than race.

Ask Ryan Brewer that question.

A RB that graduated high school in 1999 from Troy High School in Ohio.(I am from Piqua, their rival school and graduated the same year).

Kid was very, very good and Ohio State came to recruit him and said they were set to offer a scholly to him but didn't realize he was a white guy. They didn't offer and he ended up playing for South Carolina and torching the Buckeyes for about 214 all purpose yards and 3 TDs in the Outback Bowl in 2000. OSU was ranked 22nd at the time.

Was also Mr. Ohio.

Point is, white guys don't get the credit they deserve unless they are a QB, TE, or Lineman.

In my humble opinion.

This the guy who Holtz offered over the phone early on at South Carolina? And was shocked he was a smallish white guy haha?

Yes, definitely. But you can't discount the "eye ball test" that coaches use. It is why Luke Kuechly was passed over by everyone (including Notre Dame who saw him play live) because he looked like a "nerd" and not a "ball player." Baratti, who was evaluated as an ATHLETE, was underrated for the following reasons in order of importance:

1. He primarily played QB and a little WR/TE but his best projection is S/LB... there wasn't really any tape (or camp performances) out there to evaluate him at the position he will play in college.
2. Texas wasn't interest; and when you're a recruit from Texas you don't get a high rating unless the major Texas schools/Oklahoma are interested. Period. He floated in the 4:s: range on Rivals and Scout for a long time before finally being a 3:s: when all was said and done as he was a "boring" recruit that didn't pick up more major offers and always stayed true to ND.
3. He's a tweener. When you don't have a clear cut position at the next level it always hurts your rankings no matter what kind of freak athlete you are. David Perkins is a great example of this... he is camp/combine freak but no one knows what that will translate to at the next level.
4. He's white/the whole "perception is reality" thing. His film doesn't look as fast because of his skin color. Instead of people looking at his electronic times and going "wow!" they go "hmm I wonder if that's accurate" or "well I don't think he plays that fast." And there's no game film from the other side of the ball to disprove them.

So when people say "if he was black he'd have been a consensus 4:s:" I tend to agree with that because I think he would've gotten more of the benefit of the doubt both from schools and services. But it's hardly the biggest factor.

Peoria is right on the ball here ---- these "racial assessment posts" [whether you agree with them or not] are WAY off topic in Rashad Kinlaw's thread for a great number of reasons. They should be moved --- as to where depends upon ones prejudices.

I'm a lil surprsied nothing has come to this thread after his visit. I haven't seen anything on twitter by the analysts or anything or stories out about his visit. Has anyone else seen anything? I can see him being quiet with his recruitment but since he is already committed I would have thought there would be something.

Stumbled across a web site that had film breakdowns of our current 2013 commits and posted all of them to this thread. Now posting to the individual recruits thread.

The analysis is done by Matt Alkire who worked for Scout for a number of years. Here is his bio for anyone who cares

Matt Alkire is also employed by Fox Sports where he works as a college and high school football recruiting analyst, mainly covering the Northeast portion of the country for Scout.com where he coordinates with players, coaches and administrators at the high school and collegiate levels. He is a regular for many ESPN radio affiliates for both the NFL Draft and high school recruiting, contributes on a regular basis to Fox publications and was also featured in former New England Patriot All-Pro Brent William’s book “Recruit My Son”. He has been doing extensive film study since the 2003 season for the NFL Draft. As a football player, Alkire played both defensive end and tight end and comes from a family with a rich coaching background.

Working at WR.

@LonghornDigest Kevin Flaherty: "Wide receiver is also very good. Was great today. Rodney Adams, Jesus Wilson, Rashad Kinlaw and Malique Belfort all had nice plays."
