It's pretty even. ND has one of the best undergraduate programs in the country, Stanford has one of the best graduate plans in the country. You can't really go wrong with a degree from either. I would say this is one of the few instances where academics doesn't help us out.

Right. They're both great schools. On balance, Stanford's probably greater. But either way...
And if you want to major in "business," does it really matter what your major is? Plenty of econ majors go into finance, and history majors go into marketing. If this kid's smart and driven enough to be choosing between free rides to Notre Dame and Stanford, he should be fine in four years regardless of what his degree is in.

Wants to decide around June 1st. Pete Sampson thinks we flip him. If he gets back on campus I also see us flipping him.

Huh that's weird. I just read an article on 247 with a quote from Randolph saying he will entertain any suitors all the way up to singing day. Specifically said he had no date set. I like II's version better.

Here's the link:

Stanford commit Doug Randolph still weighing options

Read the same article my man. I trust Pete's knowledge over the Cavs 24 7.

Agreed, I just was surprised by the direct quote. Obviously things are very fluid with recruiting, I bet II is the most up to date here. Probably a matter of 247 holding on to info before publishing. I love Sapp and Wiltfong, but they do tend to be more cautious in what they release.

Ya but usually when Sapp is quiet something good is going on. I think Sampson has his finger wrapped around the program and his sources are better. I like the 24 7 recruit updates better. TJ34 is worth the money over at rivals.

A kid already committed setting a decision date just sounds like a flip.

Randolph on the first would be awesome right before Isaac Rochell visits on the 3rd followed by a looming decision this summer of Jaylon.

Getting too excited about recruiting for May 10th.

True dat.

It would be pretty anti-climatic for him to do an announcement and pick the team that he is already committed to. If him making a "decision" includes and actual "announcement", then I like our chances.

When was the last time we flipped a Stanford commit? TJ Jones? I vaguely remember someone else that class. Was Tate Nichols committed there too?

Never even thought of that, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Starting to get excited about our chances here, too.

ND hasn't signed a four star CB play since Robert Blanton. Pretty pathetic. Tee doesn't count.

I hope this kid flips. It would be nice to have him as one of the linebackers in this class. I know none of them have committed yet but you have to like where we stand with the position. You get Jaylon, Doug, Alex, and any of Ball, Cox, or Drennon you did something. Of coarse it will look better when we at least have one of them on board.

I interviewed Randolph for Chatsports... Haven't written the article up yet. Here are some interesting things he said:

1) I asked what schools he was considering and how he would qualify his Stanford commitment. His answer was that "I am still committed. But I am looking around. I was an early commit and am enjoying the recruiting process." IMO sounds like he is defensive, somewhat looking for a reason to leave... just my opinion.

2) He really likes ND's history, culture, and fans. He thinks this is what makes ND different from the other schools.

3) He thinks we could see him at a lot of positions because he bounced all over the field last year. He only started playing two years ago and would be very open to the idea of redshirting.

4) He hopes to major in business... ND has the number 1 business school in the country as we all know.

5) He feels comfortable with Notre Dame and could see himself there. James Onwualu and him talk quite often and have become good friends. He talks to Prince Shembo and some other players. Coach Booker talks to him on Facebook frequently and calls him "every once in a while." Diaco is also in touch.

6) He really loved getting up to South Bend, "it was great to get up there and finally see it." He likes the football culture and facilities.

He's a Tebow fan. His family makes decision on committee as some of you may have seen on ISD. It would not shock me if he flips, it would not shock me if he stayed with Stanford. IMO it is either us, or Stanford even though he mentions Michigan and UVA as being in the mix.

Fun fact of the day.... talking to some people, apparently Doug is a very talented lacrosse player in addition to his football prowess. Didn't know that. Apparently has DI lacrosse potential but is a football-first guy for college... similar situation to Greg Pyke who committed to Georgia for football.
