After the game last night, as I was tightening the noose, several minds came to mind.

-while we all know the defense has been sporadic this year so far, I'm still kind of happy with them. They certainly look stronger in the 4th quarter, despite giving up points, and while sometimes they are flying around recklessly, at least they're flying around. I don't know, call me silly, but there seems to be more energy on defense, even when it's bad.
-Our offense looked excellent at times. That was a plus. Sometimes, in the last 3 years, you could almost sense the play Weis was going to call. Don't get me wrong, I thought he called some good plays, just called them too often. With Kelly, I think he's mixing it up a bit more.
-Say what you will about Brady Quinn, but I always felt comfortable with him as a qb, something I rarely felt with Claussen. But, there's a few times when I am getting the Quinn feeling back with Crist. I'm giving him more time.
-I will not bitch about Kelly. We all wanted a change, and we have it now, and good or bad, I'm sticking by him. Sure, some of the play calls have been questionable but dammit, at least we are trying this year.
- I believe we needed this to bring us back to the earth.
-The officials last night sucked.
-Somehow, 1-2 under Kelly doesn't seem as awful as 1-2 under Weis. I think it's because it seemed like we gave up last year after a tough loss. sCuM was a tough loss but they seemed to still have fight in them last night.
-I want a NC every year as bad as the next guy, and I was so hoping for an excellent season to wash the bad taste from my mouth from the previous staff. But all things considered, new coach, with his new way of thinking and play calling, untested qb, new DC, plus a new defensive scheme, plus whatever else I'm missing, we don't really look that bad. Seriously, if we were coming off a winning year, and had all this going on, I would be pissed. But it's a new era, and I'm giving it some time. I hate being 1-2 and call me a freaking idiot, but I really don't feel like we're losing right now but gaining some much needed experience.

I will kill, or perhaps just seriously maim, to go undefeated but I drank too much kool-aid over time. This is going to take time, whether we want it to or not. I truly believe ND is heading for greatness again, but unfortunately for us, we will have to bide our time.

This is a pretty ridiculous statement. How can you say that you never felt comfortable with Clausen? Great accuracy, leading to a great completion percentage. And he almost never threw interceptions last year and led us on multiple comebacks. And you say you think you'll feel more comfortable with Crist, a guy who keeps making bad decisions and inaccurate throws?

Kelly's third down pass to Rudolph was the most predictable play I've seen it years. And not only did I know it was coming, so did Michigan State.

I know Crist is new and you give him high percentage plays that he's comfortable with, but they stop being so high percentage when you run them on every crucial third down.

Agree that the Officials absolutely sucked. Missed tons of holding calls and plenty of other calls/non calls.
And don't you mean scUM? ...Didn't think we played Central Michigan :D

I agree with the above post concerning Clausen. I like totally trusted him and honestly would give a LOT to have him taking snaps for us right now. I think he could've brought us to victory.
Overall this all has been said many times in the past day.

True but what was more frustrating is that Floyd was wide open behind Rudolph. Dayne should have seen him

NDfanSteve thanks for trying to cheer us up. I tried to look for positives after this game but I had a hard time. At times we look like an NC team and at times we look like a No Contest team. On both offence and defence.

I saw the lose coming when they let the clock run out with 30 seconds left in the game [remember Nebraska 2000]. Nd hardly ever performs well in OT.

On the fake field goal I had a flashback to a time when I had a rear end traffic accident on the ice. Noooo Noooooo Noooooo Boom! I swear the play was in slow motion.

At the end of this game if I would have been attacked by a grizzly bear and all I had to defend myself with was a wet noodle, I would have a nice bear rug in my living room right now.

I agree with most of the above comments. Being in a new system, new coach, new DC, a QB who has started 3 games, and a very young defense, makes it really touch to compete. We just lost to two teams in the top 25.... Say what you want about rankings and how bad our schedule is this year but three out of our first four games are no against ranked opponents. Not to mention that Boston College could be very easily be 3-0 when we play them as well. I am not mad at BK, just disappointed and thought we would at least win one of these two games and guess what we were in position to win despite the above reasons of why we shouldn't be. Irish fans just have to be patient and realize that even when you get a new coach change will come but it does take time. Our leading receiver this week was former running back, which is a good thing because it shows that we have talent and athletes. Its just gonna take some time to develop! Which is what weis didn't do, develop. With weis it seemed like recruits would come in and not get any better over four years, which was obviously disappointing. It takes time and I know we are all beside ourselves at this moment but don't get pissed this team is better coached and is going in the right direction, we may not see it now but wait till halfway through the season to jump to conclusions about BK and the irish.
