They have a big break in their schedule(I believe the yes network said the next 20+ games are against teams with losing records), It’s a long shot and I don’t see it happening, but get the division to under 5 games heading into September and see what happens. They still have 6 against the Sawks in September.

This is the softest part of the schedule but it's also a place where the Yankees have not been dominant and have to be if they're going to climb back into competition.

As long as Boston continues .700 ball, NY has to play 30 games of 1.000 ball to pick up the deficit.

Sanchez should be back soon though with the year he's been having I'm not sure that's great help. He and Romine both struggling at the plate.

Judge still feeling pain in wrist. Meanwhile Robinson replacing Judge is 1-16, no help at the plate.

Torres is 3-24 in last 7 games.

What is the deal with Shane Robinson? He is averaging .190 over the last three years. Makes me feel like I am a shot with the Yankees.

Combination of injuries (Montgomery, Ellsbury, Sanchez, Frazier, and Judge among others) and trades (Drury, McKinney, and Austin). Without Montgomery NY rotation was questionable from the start of the season. They traded early season bench strength for pitchers. When Judge broke his wrist, Clint Frazier would have stepped in but he's had a season long battle with concussion/migraine issues. McKinney had filled in when Hicks was injured but he's gone.

Robinson was a stop gap measure out of necessity with a career .225 BA and no hint of Judge's power.

Robinson, Voit, and Higashioka are a huge drop off as replacements.

Sabathia on 10 day DL with sore right knee. Expected to miss a turn.

Candidates to replace him are Gray, Sheffield, Cessa, and Adams.

Injuries have been brutal this year. Hope we're healthy when the playoffs roll around.

What's going on with Severino? I haven't heard anything about him being hurt? Struggling mentally?

There’s nothing about an injury out there. It seems more mechanics and maybe just a snowball effect? Location hasn’t been great, he’s leaving a lot of hangers, movement Isn’t as good. Considering the rest of the rotation, not great for the ace of the staff to have a slump like this.

This JA Happ guy looks good.
Tanaka has been strong the last month.
Severino will come good.

How often have teams won world series from the wild card game?
Edit: google just told me it has happened six times.

Serious question for Yankee fans...with the A's surging of late, who'd you all rather face in the one game elimination - Verlander and the Astros, or a red hot Athletics team? Houston is only up by one game in the West.

A’s every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The Astros haven't been good lately but that is probably to do with one missing piece.

Whoever they play they need to do it in NY otherwise they have to fly west for the game then turn around and fly to Boston. The pitching and current offense are tenuous without adding jet lag.

Without Judge and without an Ace on the mound, I'm not sure they hold home field advantage.

Faced with a choice of Gray, Cessa, Adams, or Sheffield to fill in for Sabathia, Boone choose Cessa ... who didn't fill in. He gave up 5 runs in 3-1/3 innings. He was sent down after the game.

Early in the season when NY was scoring 8, 9, or 10 runs that might have cut it. But not with this anemic lineup. Yankees had 5 hits, 2 of them by Andujar, HR and 2B. RISP 0-9.

The bright spot for NY, Andujar's bat, .297 BA, 19 HRs and 59 RBIs leads AL rookies including the slumping Gleyber Torres.

Sox lost and NY picked up no ground in the "soft" part of their schedule.

You all sure you really want to face the A's? I understand the thinking, but they are second half's base team in the league. I get what you're saying but Verlander has been beat many times before in the post season.

Another loss today against the Rays...series loss. If it were me I'd take last year out of my head and prefer the team on the same downward slide.

Yanks bulked up the pen, but forgot about how important starting pitching is...along with putting too many chips in an unproven ace who is fading as innings add up.

I don't know how you can say that when the Yankees got the best that they realistically could in starting pitching in Happ and Lance Lynn.

Yankees are beat up right now. Team is totally different with Judge and a right Sanchez. See you in October bro. Seattle Mariners 2001 116 wins.......

Good point...I didn't realize the Yanks had made so many worthless moves in starting pitching to get worse.

Will you? I hope so. I'd much rather play the Yanks opposed to the A's or Astros.

Can’t even have an intelligent conversation with Redsox fans. I think the Yankees did real good obtaining starting pitching at the trade deadline given what was available.

Happ has pitched nearly lights out since joining the team. Plus Happ in his career has good numbers vs Boston.

Recently starting pitching has not been the biggest problem. It’s been scoring runs. Judge is the heart and sole, the main cog that makes the yankee lineup go. See how the Sox would do without comparable players to Judge and Sanchez out for a month or so. Say J.D. and Benintendi for a month or more.

Be careful what you wish for during the playoffs bro. Don’t let Price last outing bs the Yanks fool you. Add Judge and Sanchez to the lineup and the old Price will return.

I’m a Yankees fan, which means I have a brain. Boston is real good this year, one of the best teams I have seen in my lifetime. And if for some reason they did not win the World Series this year it would be a huge disappointment and choke job.

Go Tribe! Playing some good ball and have arguably the best starting pitching staff of anyone in the AL. They really don't fear anyone at this point. Bully needs to be better but, that'll come (hopefully). :)

You do understand Price will be the #4 at best starter when E. Rod. returns, don't you? Just depends who is better down the stretch - Price or Eovaldi? Either way both will have a short hook with the other in long relief.

Found some offense!

Walker 3 run HR puts NY ahead but Lynn gives a run back, tied at 5.

Yanks took the lead with small ball in the 6th, a walk, Andujar single, and a RBI for Torres on a FC. Stanton launched #31 in the 7th ... then the rains came. Green got the win in relief and Robertson the save.
