Yankees Back In First!
Eovaldi with his 4+ ERA is accustomed to a lot of NYY run support to cover his sizeable ERA. He didn't get it yesterday. He pitched 8 scoreless innings allowing 4 hits while still throwing a 100 mph fastball into the 8th.
But the Yankees bats were largely silent as Houston's Feldman matched Eovaldi gooseeggs allowing no runs and 6 hits through 8 innings. McCann was cut down at the plate trying to score on a fly to center in the 7th.
In the 9th, Miller relieved Eovaldi after 109 pitches and held Houston scoreless. Perez relieved Feldman, 110 ptiches, and walked a batter, threw a WP, then intentionally walked ARod, walked McCann to load the bases, and gave on a sac fly to Beltran for the 1-0 Yankee win. Miller evened his record at 2-2.
NY placed Sabathia on the 15 day DL with a sore knee and Girardi noted he might not be back this season.
Nova pitches Tuesday.
Toronto didn't play Monday.
