Notre Dame Team Notes – USATODAY.com

THIS WEEK'S GAMES:
--vs. West Virginia, Feb. 22
KEY MATCHUPS: This is a tricky game for the streaking Irish, as WVU is a strong team that is desperate for victories. Notre Dame went to Morgantown and won, 55-51, in a hard-fought, physical battle, and this game has all the makings of the same. Kevin Jones of WVU is the leading candidate for Big East Player of the Year and leading the conference in scoring and rebounding. Notre Dame's Jack Cooley is making a late run to steal away some votes, although his statistics cannot match those of Jones. The key to the game may well come down to where Cooley or WVU center Deniz Kilicli, riding a hot streak himself, can dominate in the paint.

Sagarin's Predictor Model has WVU as the 32nd ranked teamand ND as the 42nd ranked team. It makes ND a 1.29 pt favorite at home. ND won at Morgantown 55-51.

Brey never makes it past the first two rounds. As much as it would kill me, I would predict ND to lose to scUM. Not due to them being good, just because early-round exits are ND's specialty. Oh, and just for good measure, go suck one wolverine1997.

Of course, that would mean making the tremendous assumption that ND would beat Long Beach State.

Lets say this is the bracket and Michigan advances enough for this: What I would really love to see, and I know the University wants to avoid it at all costs. Michigan vs SDSU. Fisher going against his old program.

It would feel like the universe would explode.

Haha, that and being sucked into the ND bball hype when they get in the tourney. I thought for sure we'd see an ND-Purdue Sweet 16 game last year. I believe they also had an easy path to the Elite 8 in our freshman and junior years. Freshman year, they lost to Washington State in the second round, junior year, they lost to ****ing Old Dominion in the first round. That was enough for me. I never missed a game while I was there, but I'll never expect them to get past the second round of the Tourney.

This would get a more favorable response on a Michigan site, don't you think?

Maybe a new section of the forum could be created for wolverine1997 and his ilk: the Bestiality Booth. Then wolverine can feel free to post communist propaganda, satanic rituals, pictures of his fornication with dingoes, stuff about scUM sports nobody gives a damn about, etc. The least we can do for such an ardent troll is give him his own cozy little den under the bridge.

Yes you're probably right. A little off topic for this board.

How cool would it be though to see Michigan vs ND in the NCAA Tournament? Only downside is that it's in hillbilly hell aka Nashville.

Hate the matchup in round 1. LBSU would give us fits.

We played LBSU a few years ago and handled them pretty easily. I know even then they were considered one of the mid-major sleepers, but are they really that much better this year? I think ND would win that game by at least ten, but then again, Old Dominion...

This game scares the hell out of me. I keep expecting this basketball run to end painfully, but alas the guys keep winning.

Go Irish!

Do people think that they have secured a bid to the tournament regardless?

I do. Not only do they have a Big East resume, but they have some nice signature wins.

I agree that this is a scary game. Jones should be BE POY and I'm sure they will want some revenge for what happened a few weeks ago.

Right now I think we are safe, but if we lose 5 in a row to end the year I don't see a bid forthcoming. I would say that 2 more wins (reg season, BE tourney, or combo) would be a lock. It would be nice to be a 5 or 6 seed rather than an 8 or 9; plus a double bye in the BE would be great.

Irish are -2.5 with an o/u at 125. With ND at home, it says that there is strong support for the Mountaineers.

Additional insight on bids from Bruce Marshall.

BIG EAST

Conference Power Rating: 3rd

Solid...Syracuse, Marquette, Louisville, Georgetown, Notre Dame
Looking Good...Cincinnati, West Virginia
Bubble...Seton Hall, UConn, South Florida

I think we would literally have to lose the rest of our games to not make the tournament. 2-2 over the last 4 gets us in for sure
