Damn, I must be old. I haven't heard of most of these artists or songs, and I'd rather have Shaq as my proctologist and Hillary as my wife than listen to rap or hip-hop.

Yes, there were so many other performers who put out great tracks, but my primary preference was that East Coast, angry, grimy, stuff. That being said, The Dirty South put out some fantastic beats during the No Limit days. I went down a deep, deep rabbit hole, last night.

I totally forgot Cash Money, as well. BG was on my constant gym-music rotation for some time.

All the different styles of 90s rap is a reason it’s the best I think. East Coast, West Coast, Dirty South all have their own spin and all are good...just depends on what I’m in the mood for.

Yesterday when cutting grass I listened to the Bone E. 99 CD....love that intro. And then moved onto a little OutKast Southernplayalistic

Also Busta in “What’s the Scenario“ is fire.

I have that Dead South tune on my phone. Very interesting sound. I like it. I believe they are from Canada. Another Canadian band who has flown under the radar for years is the Headstones. Different genre than Dead South, but I dig ‘em.

I realize we're now treading into "old guy on his lawn shouting at clouds territory," but I agree. Everything sounds the same, now.

I've been more into country and fringe stuff (all genres) the last several years. Occasionally some mainstream stuff is good. I'm not going to lie, Old Town Road got me kickin'.

I'm not screaming at clouds yet. A few more year maybe.

I listen to mostly jazz, now. I'll listen to EDM/Reggaeton/Hip Hop for workouts, so this has been a nice return to the past.

I went through a Jazz and Blues phase around 10-15 years ago. I still listen to Klugh, Evans, Sandoval, Perez, Coltrane, Getz, Monk, etc., once in a while. I also have Ken Burns Jazz collection, which is pretty killer.

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts released a jazz album in the mid-90s. It’s probably out of print but man I wore that thing out. Coltrane may be my favorite. Also love Nina Simone.

Simone is awesome. She spans music type. Her version of Sinnerman is about as badass as it gets. And Feeling Good is about as classic as classic can be.

Didn't know that about Watts. I'll have to check it out.

Love Tribe. Went out to a Cubs ND weekend a couple of years back and sat right in front of Phife Dawg RIP and Michael Rapaport at Wrigley. Had a blast and shot the shit the whole game. Actually went to high school with EPMD and Craig Mack. Has anyone brought up Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, or De La Soul? I’m aging myself but miss the old hip hop. Can’t stand the mumble rap. .

Throw in George Shearing and Wes Montgomery, and your list basically overlaps mine. I also love Latin jazz, even though I can't understand a word of what they're saying. Buena Vista Social Club and Afro-Cuban All Stars are phenomenal when you're driving down 75.

I may have mentioned this, but I saw Arturo Sandoval in SB when he played a concert with the SB Symphony. There were two acts: Act 1 was mostly the symphonic influenced music -- that was okay. Act 2 was mostly Sandoval's band and the 14 friggin' instruments he plays. Man, that was amazing.

There was a gentleman named Billy "Stix" Nicks who played in South Bend. He was a Motown guy who played in a couple of different bands. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple of years ago. With all due respect to Danny Carey (who I have never seen in real life) Billy may have been the best drummer I've ever seen. He was like, 80, just rocking out.

He used to play a lot at the old Club LaSalle, when it was a cigar and martini bar. The guitarist for the Bill Nicks Trio, Joe, could play exactly like Wes Montgomery. Those were some great times.

TBQH the "Native Tongues" era was pretty good. Right before gangsta and EC/WC shit blew up.

DeLa Soul
Monie Love
ATCQ
Queen Latifa
Jungle Brothers,
Mos Def
Common
Pharcyde
Leaders of the New School

I never got into the bitches and hoes street thug life shit. I like the more conscious and self aware hip hoppers.

I also enjoy Latin Jazz, but not a lot of knowledge. My buddy from PR let me rip a bunch of CDs. He plays the piano and several other instruments, has a home studio, does the production stuff for his church, and is big into Latin Jazz. Danilo Pérez, Dave Valentin, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Michel Camilo, and Paquito D'Rivera are a few of the guys he loves. I probably have 5+ albums from each, and a bunch of various artists CDs that are Latin.

Sandoval was in CO last year at Red Rocks, and I almost went. I love that amphitheater. I'm sure it was amazing.

Aside from Latin Jazz, I really enjoy Spanish and Cuban music (in general) when I get in the mood too. Manzanita's version of Arranca is pretty killer. The percussion and guitar... A little horn action..

The show is awesome! But yes, the music is incredible.

Lot's of different stuff, but they play a lot from one of the actors (who's actually a singer).
