I just learned the following this past week about that song:

https://direstraitsblog.com/blog/george-harry-sultans-swing/

I knew one of the guys in The Easybeats was Malcom and Angus' older brother, but had no idea he was also George from this song.

Nice. Didn't know that.
I knew he wrote it about an actual band called SoS but just though Harry and George were members of that band. Another fun fact, Steve Winwood's brother Muff produced DS's first Album. Muff was also part of the Spencer Davis Group, and also produced/signed acts like Psychedelic Furs, Sade, Traffic, etc..

Which is now going to get me on a Steve Winwood trip... Love his musical history.

This is only a 2 minute clip, but wow. Derek Trucks is beyond words. John Mayer, who's no slouch on guitar, is in awe and BB King is funny talking about where his dress would be if he was a girl and then pays Derek the ultimate compliment.

I’ve probably listened to Sultans of Swing 20 times today - just doesn’t get old. The way Knopfler makes his guitar sing is amazing to me and the lyrics are genius. One of my all time favorite tunes.

Since Neal Pearts death, I've been going through a bunch of old, saved drum vids I have on YT and ran across these gems. Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction is probably my favorite modern drummer just edging out Danny Carey from Tool. This rendition of Who Are You probably made Keith Moon smile right before he threw a tv out of his penthouse in the sky. Who are you is maybe the perfect drum song.

The other is an out of this world solo by drum God, Tony Williams. No words needed.

Who's your favorite drummer? What's your favorite drum song?

I haven't picked up the sticks since 2012 but started playing around 1990 when I was a little kid.
I'm not sure if I have a favorite drummer but I have many that I would count as favorites and/or influences when I played.

John Bonham
Neil Peart
Tommy Aldridge
Eric Singer
Cozy Powell
Bun E. Carlos
Tommy Lee
Roger Taylor
Matt Cameron
Nick Menza
Vinnie Colaiuta
Denny Carmassi
Cliff Davies
Buddy Rich
Joe Morello
Louie Bellson

So many others.

I think he's talking about Dave Matthews.

And sorry, DLR VH >>>>> SH VH...

Don't get me wrong, love SH, and even SH VH, but VH's early stuff with DLR was incredible (voice and frontman).

Ha..my bad. Not sure why I had DLR in mind.

I love DLR-era VH and his voice was decent when recording and in his prime but I don’t think anyone would say his voice alone is better than Hagar’s voice. Better entertainer and frontman, though. Again, love DLR and the entire DLR/Van Hagar catalog.

Prince did the work and did It right. Adam put a new button on It. Prince version will always be better.

Mr Brownstone is good but I highly recommend the live version. It’s MUCH better.

Now onto some Metallica

I'm done.

I tried since PJ posted their new stuff on Youtube but it's just not clicking. There are a couple of songs that are good. But there are some real stinkers on there.

PJ struggles to craft good uptempo songs like Spin the Black Circle... but they keep trying. They should just give up on the punk/thrash angst and go for slower, brooding songs and let McCready go off on a tangent when he sees fit. It worked for Pink Floyd.

Still looking forward to seeing them in the Post-Corona world at this year's Ohana Fest in Dana Point. If nothing else, to listen to the oldies and catch Kings of Leon and My Morning Jacket open up.

Corona cost me Rage and PJ's April show. Feckin virus.

Looks like Prine is not doing well.

Sad. Doesn't sound like he's going to make it.

John Prine's a cousin of mine on his mother's side (the Hamm's) His famous song Paradise is about a town of the same name that was converted into a strip mine and power plant. My Dad used to sing that song all the time and didn't even know that Prine was his cousin. I saw him a few times in the 90's, once at Navy Pier. He was a favorite son of WXRT in Chicago which was my station of choice. Wish I'd known we were cousins when I saw him, would have been cool to meet him.

He overcame cancer once before in the 90's when I was back in Chicago. Just read he had a lung removed/operated on due to some kind of cancer. Not the type of scenario that plays out well with corona... or any bad case of flu that produces a secondary infection & pneumonia.

Best wishes fam.

One side of my mothers family is from near Paradise. That side was was sprinkled in pockets between KY Lake/Cumberland and Paradise.

Weird story... As a teen, my dad's best friend had a lake house down there. Went down, played golf, hung on the lake, and drank shine with some of the locals near the lake house. Found out later that a few of the locals we drank shine with were like 3rd or 4th cousins.

I'm not as low on the new PJ album as you. Personally, I think it's their best since Riot Act. It's very different, but there are still some rockers on there and still some slower ones that are good (Comes then goes). I'll give it some more listens in the upcoming weeks, perhaps my mind will change.

I was also supposed to go to PJ in April (Nashville, 4/2). Would love to make it to Ohana, but can't afford it this year thanks to Carona.
