Since Neal Pearts death, I've been going through a bunch of old, saved drum vids I have on YT and ran across these gems. Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction is probably my favorite modern drummer just edging out Danny Carey from Tool. This rendition of Who Are You probably made Keith Moon smile right before he threw a tv out of his penthouse in the sky. Who are you is maybe the perfect drum song.

The other is an out of this world solo by drum God, Tony Williams. No words needed.

Who's your favorite drummer? What's your favorite drum song?

Recently discovered Samantha Fish, a young blues guitarist and singer. She's no joke on guitar, especially playing slide. She's held her own while doing some appearances with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Bonamassa, and that's no small feat.

I recently rediscovered The Cranberries and their song Zombie, which is one of the best rock songs I've ever heard. Sadly, I also discovered that lead singer Dolores O'Riordan died two years ago from drowning in her tub after a night of extremely heavy drinking.

She had so many issues, from having grown up in poverty, sexually molested repeatedly from the age of 8 until 12 by a family friend, depression & eating disorders related to the molestation, diagnosed as bipolar later in life, and too much self medicating with alcohol. An extraordinarily smart, talented woman with an amazing voice who couldn't outrun her demons no matter how much wealth and success she achieved.

Loved the Cranberries. Ode to My Family is my favorite from them, but love Zombie, Linger, Dreams, and a few others. Their first two albums were pretty awesome. I remember when Dreams and Linger started being played on the college station before they got released (really re-released) a year or so later mainstream in the US. I think we "taped" the two songs because you couldn't buy it in the stores yet. I'm roughly the same age as her, so sucks that she's gone. Incredible voice. Always wanted to catch them in concert again if they ever made it near me.

50 year anniversary of Wilson, Hendrix and Joplin all coming up later this year... Always liked Canned Heat a lot and have always been fascinated with "Blind Owl" Wilson, who was one of the first members of the 27 club, at least from the classic rock era.

Loved the Cranberries.

The Cranberries song "Dreams" was the song used to close out Real World: Miami....

We are the sultans - the sultans of swing....

...and Harry doesn’t mind if he don’t, make the scene. He’s got a daytime job, he’s doing alright.

Love that song. Also love the entire Brothers in Arms album. Can’t recall the last time I hear the original release of their hit single “Money for Nothing”....even on satellite radio where they are supposedly proud of all the derogatory terms they allow to be broadcast via a songs lyrics or from the DJ themselves.

Excellent frontman but never possessed a great voice (Hagar can still sting) & it’s worse today. Only reason DLR got the VH gig was he bugged the hell out of them until they finally relented b/c he was the only person they knew that could afford a PA (his dad was a very wealthy doctor).

Harry is great, but don't forget George.

You check out guitar George, he knows-all the chords
Mind, it's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing
They said an old guitar is all, he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

I think he's talking about Dave Matthews.

And sorry, DLR VH >>>>> SH VH...

Don't get me wrong, love SH, and even SH VH, but VH's early stuff with DLR was incredible (voice and frontman).

I just learned the following this past week about that song:

Interesting fact is that the “Guitar George” and “Harry” who are mentioned in the lyrics are George Young and Harry Vanda, who were guitarist in the band The Easybeats. George Young is Angus Young’s older brother, and Harry and George helped get AC/DC recorded.

https://direstraitsblog.com/blog/george-harry-sultans-swing/

I knew one of the guys in The Easybeats was Malcom and Angus' older brother, but had no idea he was also George from this song.
