How much do you bros pay for beer where you live? I'm at my mother in-law's house for my daughter's birthday and Wegman's wanted $13.99 for a Roadsmary's Baby 6-pack. That's crazy beans.

HEB has lower end craft for around $8 for a sixer. Up to $14 for the higher end sixers, like Stone Enjoy By etc.

F5 IPA. Lots of pine.

I went to a new brewery, Flying Man. It was just okay, and way too expensive. Plus for their grand opening, they declined to tap their orange porter until 8:30. That's an easy way to get me to never come back.

Zel touched on Stone... it depends on what it is really... Ballast is 17-18 bucks for a sizer, Stone can be around 12 bucks... most crafts sixers will be around 8-12, in that range.

Sipping a Modern Times Critical Band IPA. I just got back from visiting the in-laws in the PNW.

Had a some red wine and my father-in-laws staple beer Elysian Space adjust IPA.
I also had cans of
Bale Breaker Topcutter IPA
Fort George Suicide Squeeze IPA

And I visited MT Tabor Brewing since it is right around the corner from the in-laws. There I had Lupulin Communion a wet hop Mosaic IPA which was pretty good and Asylum Ave IPA which was ok.

I think for beer prices it is best to look at a moderate price craft and a premium craft (though not ultra premium) both at grocery stores and box box alcohol stores. Let's use Sierra Nevada and Stone as they are both available just about everywhere

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is
7.99 at big box liquor stores
8.49 at grocery stores

Seasonal Sierra Nevada (Narwhal, Bigfoot, etc)
11.99 at big box liquor stores
12.99 (though usually on sale for 8.49) at grocery stores

Stone IPA
8.99 at big box liquor store
9.99 at the grocery store

Premium Stone (Enjoy By, Mocha IPA, etc)
15.99 at big box liquor store
15.99 at grocery store.

There are a whole lot of "illegals" and former "illegals" risking their lives right now battling fires to save vineyards in Napa and Sonoma California. Something to think about the next time you sit down to enjoy that glass of wine.

Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2018!

by Vincent on 12th October 2017 in Latest News
Kentucky Takes World Crown
Historic bottling from home of bourbon is planet’s finest dram, says Whisky Bible 2018

* Colonel E.H. Taylor 4 Grain Bottled in Bond Aged 12 years is World Whisky of the Year in latest edition.
* Jim Murray hails its “sheer undiluted beauty”.
* Irish and Scotch notch runners-up gongs.

The unique bottling from Buffalo Trace gives a nod to the four grains – corn, rye, wheat and malted barley – that the legendary bourbon pioneer worked with back in the 19th century.

Scoring a remarkable 97.5 out of 100, the champion dram boasts a finish that Murray describes as a “slow, lightly oiled, gently spiced chocolate fade which goes on…and on”.

He adds: “Nothing could match the astonishing beauty of its surprisingly delicate weight and complexity combined. It was though time stood still in the tasting room; I just knew…”

Buffalo Trace recently discovered the long-lost remains of Col. Taylor’s iconic O.F.C distillery, which stood on the same spot in Frankfort, Kentucky, until ravaged by fire in 1872.

And the company has now launched tours of what has been dubbed ‘Bourbon Pompeii’.

Buffalo Trace president Mark Brown said: “We are beyond excited. The timing could not coincide more perfectly with the recent discovery of Taylor’s original distillery.”

With over 1,200 new whiskies tasted for the latest edition of the international guide, the supreme Col. Taylor faced stiff competition from European rivals to claim the top award.

Second Finest Whisky of the Year goes to Redbreast Aged 21 Years, the best result for an Irish entrant in Whisky Bible history and only the second time the Emerald Isle has made the top three.

The Pure Pot Still scored 97 out of 100, earning praise from Murray for “one of the most wonderful noses on this planet” which helps make it “one of the world’s most beautiful and iconic whisk(e)ys”.

On the podium again is the Glen Grant Aged 18 Years Rare Edition, which is named Third Finest following its second-place finish in 2017, also with 97 points.

Sectional winners include: Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye (Canadian Whiskey of the Year); The Norfolk Parched from St George’s (European); Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky (Japanese); Paul John Kanya (Asian) and Limeburner’s Dark Winter (Southern Hemisphere)

A friend has some Colonel Taylor and swears by it. Not sure if it's the same that won whiskey of the year

I would guess mid twenties to late twenties.

Tonight I had
La Cumbre Elevated IPA. Just a solid IPA, nothing special even though the reviews of it are crazy high. They just started distributing here this month.

Firestone Walker Leo v Ursus Inferos Imperial Rye IPA. This was great and probably the best of the Leo v Ursus series so far. Some nice citrus and slight tropical fruit to pair with some malty sweetness and some really good rye spice on the finish.

They don't think it be like it is, but it do

Pkt knows I'm not old AF, I just act like it. I bet if I showed up at a bar to meet him though, he'd still be surprised. Y'all can guess all you want, only those at the Navy game will know for sure. But I do have the maturity of a 13 year old

I had Stone Vengeful Spirit. Really damn good stuff. You try it? I successfully resisted buying a 4 lack of Leo v Ursus. Now I wanna even more

Modern Times Spaceship Earth Pale Ale. Very good especially since it is only 5.2%. Tasty and something you can drink all day.
