Firestone Walker Oaktoberfest.

Straight Marzen, in spite of name, which implies oak barrel aging. (The name "Oaktoberfest" is a play on "Paso Robles," the brewery's location, which means "Oak Pass" --it has nothing to do with oak barrel storage.)

Bready, yeasty and malty -- taste almost heavy. But I liked it a lot. I mean not "95 a lot" but low 90s. Would be great with German fare, for sure -- roast pork with rosemary or brats and sauerkraut.

Have some Mosaic in in the fridge... I plan to open a couple tonight while cracking some plastic with my electric football... it's my off-season and now I focus on my combine and draft through this weekend (tweaking new bases to run correctly/enter the draft).

I was informed that I work 5 minutes away from the best beer selection on this side of town. This will not be pretty. Oh well.

Had some of that over the weekend...wasn't bad, wasn't overly impressed either

Yeah, more malty than I anticipated. I still enjoy it, and it's not a terrible price, but I'm not sure I'll go back to it for a while. I've just had a huge craving for hop forward beers and need to pick some up. What are your go-to Texas hop bombs?

So many good ones...but if it's just the HOuston market?

Karbach Hopadillo
Southern Star Conspiracy Theory IPA
Southern Star Pro-am
Buffalo Bayou Ginger Citrus IPA (haven't seen in a long time...but amazing)

But Deep Ellum IPA and 512 are also amazing.

And anything outta Live Oak is good

No problem!

Their Bombshell blonde is one of my favorite beers ever(and their flagship beer). I always have a 12pk in the beer fridge. One of my "must haves" for the weekend.

Thoughts?

I picked up the Stone Anniversary IPA 4 pack which has bombers of the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th IPAs. I also picked up a 750ml bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru from Costco for under $5.

Hops and tropical fruit on the nose. I get pineapple actually.

Taste: Yup. Hoppy. Very nice. But I've been craving hops recently. Still some tropical fruit and hops up front. With some malt coming later and a bitter finish. I really like this beer.

Yeah seriously. I've been waiting to tell me how 12th of Never is so I know if I should buy a 12 pack.

Lagunitas 12th of Never Ale. 5.5%

I am enjoying this beer, and it is a great pool/ocean beer. Some tropical fruit, some citrus and just a hint malt and medium amount of bitterness. A little watery.

Only a B overall as a beer but it is an A for the low ABV IPA/APA category.

ETA: Not a great beer but great for having after yard work or swimming. A top 5 if not top 3 low abv hoppy beer for me.

Stone 20th anniversary Encore 5th anniversary IPA. This is the precursor to the original Stone Ruination. Very enjoyable and interesting to see how the levels hoppiness have changed over the years.

So Hop Stoopid vs 12th of Never get into a scuffle... who wins?

Hop Stoopid is a significantly better beer than 12th of Never. What the 12th of Never has going for it is that you can have a couple of them and not be tipsy. Also it comes in cans so it can go to the pool/beach. Also it is very good after yard work in the still hot and sunny AZ.

Mirror Pond will remain my Miller Time when it comes to weed-eating, leaf-blowing and general yard maintenance.

That and Coors Hop(e)less Diet.

I don't loooooove Mirror Pond but I think it's the best everyday beer for the price. It tastes like a better version of the beers I grew up with in the midwest. Plus is light enough to regulate all day. I call it Yuppy Miller High Life
