Only way to make that matter is for NFL teams to bump guys down their draft lists for this. But you know that’s not going to happen.

I agree. Won't happen, but it should. If I was an NFL GM, I wouldn't draft a guy who opted out. He's never gonna be a team first guy.

These bowls games are really bad this year.... Maybe they always have been but I'm noticing it more this year.

16 team playoff with 20 teams qualifying. Last 8 play during the championship week to qualify to get into the 16 team bracket. Get rid of bowls

If this happens you will see a lot of the smaller schools close up. This bowl money pays huge dividends for them.

In 1988 when the Irish won the NC... there were 17 Bowl Games.... there are 43 this year..... they are really bad because bowl games have been watered down with watered down teams........ I remember when the Liberty Bowl in Memphis (where I'm from) was a top 3-4 Bowl game.

Eh, do we think we would've steamrolled Oregon St if they had their whole team? Do we think OSU gets left out of the endzone if they even just keep Devin Brown? Don't think people realize how drastic a team can look just a couple of guys out, let alone 12 (I don't know the actual number, hyperbole) starters.

Wikipedia shows 32 schools having joined the FBS since 1988. So if you want to argue numbers, I guess you could say that since there's been an increase of 33% since 88, we should only have an increase of 33% in bowls as well. That gets you to 23 bowl games.

I see a list of injuries, opt outs and transfers and it was 27 players. How many of them were starters I have no idea.

Also if UGA is just that good, why weren't they in the playoffs? Even after losing to Bama, shouldn't that committee have seen they were leaving out one of the top 4 teams?

If they expanded the playoff beyond 12, we’d still see opt outs. Unless there’s a legitimate chance to win a title, I can foresee opt outs. I won’t be shocked if we see opt outs in the top 8 eventually. All it’ll take is for a #8 team with a first round pick tearing an ACL and it’ll start happening. i think it’ll be less common in the top 12, but won’t be shocked if a few do it.

I would absolutely have reservations drafting a player from a team with a legit shot at a championship sitting out. I’d have 0 reservations about Estime or Alt not playing in a meaningless bowl game. For instance, let’s say player A sits out from a #11 team and his near equal, player B from a #12 team plays. I’d be more interested in player B.
