I am a sentimental Notre Dame fan, admittedly, but I've voted for Te'o, Eifert, ZMart, and Cave ALL "with a clear conscience". I see no strong data that any of these guys might not be the finest at their positions. Of the rest of our team, I'd also vote for Big Lou and Jamoris [due to his amazing versatility] with a clear conscience. Watt is on the margins, but I am a big fan. Cierre and Stephon will have to prove it this year, but they too are big talents. This "exercise" again shows how high quality some of our athletes are.

By the way, since it looks like Steele is heading towards picking FSU #1, that might just moderate some board opinions about our bowl loss.

You'd really vote for Big Lou as the best returning DT in college football and be completely serious about it? I'd vote for him because I'm a homer, but not because I was serious.

I have watched what I believe to be a remarkable difference in the quality of our defense when Nix is at NT. We are usually impenetrable when he is in there even on goal line [if the opponent tries the middle]. In Diaco's scheme the NT is asked to collapse the offense's blocking in the center area of the field, not rush the passer; Lou seems to get this done almost everytime. If you were "grading" him then, his % of "plus" plays would be extremely high. Nix, to me, is like people like Woolfolk at the next level. Just because he doesn't penetrate does not mean that he's not allowing all the rest of Diaco's schemes to work around him. Nix is the prototypical "unnoticed" great player. All he needs is more "work volume" as Kelly would say, and he's one more year physically towards that goal, and he will, yes, be the best middle-of-the-field clogger in the country. I realize that this is just my opinion --- it is however an honest one.

I agree with OMM. Can you name me a better NT in Division I? Players like Wilfork don't rack up gaudy stats like Suh, but their skill set is rarer and definitely more valuable for any team that runs a 3-4.

Nix did an outstanding job last year! What really stood out to me was how well he moved in pursuit for as big as he is. Now that he has a year under his belt I think he'll add to his numbers in the backfield. Also note 45 tackles as a NT is very good!
