I would like to see a solid clean game against Army where the team puts it all together and is firing on all cylinders. Then, just a solid enough game to come away with a victory at USC. That’s a rivalry game and I’m sure Trojans will play tough and Riley will be looking to get key wins to close out the season (and maybe to keep his job?); doesn't have to be an ND blowout. Then at that point it’s a whole new season - The CFP season and I’m sure Freeman and the team will be pumped and focused! Then we’ll see what this team can really do / become (or not). That 12/20 or 12/21 game (hoping no mess ups here and we’re in!) will be highly anticipated and super exciting! Go Irish!! 🍀🍀🍀

Postgame Thoughts:
1. I loved the energy by Freeman towards the refs after the bad fake punt call.
2. Up until that fake punt call I feel like our offense played sluggish and then flipped the switch after that call.
3. All we need is (more of) Love!
4. Leonard has got to get better at finding the open receivers, I felt like he missed quite a few yesterday.
5. On offense Aneyas Williams is going to have a bright future at ND.
6. On defense Bryce Young is going to have a bright future at ND.
7. Hinish had a day yesterday; seems like I heard his name at least once on every possession.
8. They usually show highlights of other sports on the jumbotron, ND beat Georgetown on the road by 21; exciting times for both football & basketball!!
9. The only player I was rooting for on Virginia's team didn't have a good homecoming; Tyree had a long day from the get go on the opening kickoff.
10. 9-1, let's finish!!

Go Irish!

His interviews seem less "I'm just happy to be here" than before.

And this will seem dumb because he is well-compensated and coaching ND is unique among college FB positions, but I hope it didn't break him. Like, it seems like he's learned a hard lesson, but I hope he isn't bitter about it, either. Really don't want BK v.2 where everything about trying to win a football game is antagonistic.

I'm prob making too much of it.
Ive noticed and worth monitoring

Probably not the right thread. But I'm high. Freeman has ND on the right track.

I honestly thought MF was just a 'temp placement'... and maybe he was. But he has become a great player's coach. Is there room for improvement?? - Yes. But he has really impressed me and I hope he's here for a good amount of time to keep building. The Alumni hopefully recognize they have someone that is truly building something special and back him up through NIL.

The guy is exactly what I hoped he be: a CEO type that has convinced the school to buy in and spend money.
Staff, players, facilities. He has the administration bought in. Yes there were some speed bumps and rookie mistakes, but he has us on a trajectory I thought was unimaginable since 2012.

Best part is he's learning from his mistakes and appears to be adjusting to not repeat them. I have the utmost confidence he'll have us in the playoffs almost every year. Especially if he can keep this staff intact.

That, in and of itself, would be an amazing achievement. I suppose it will be a little easier when the playoffs are expanded, but getting through the regular season with no more than 1 loss (only virtual guarantee to make playoff) is very difficult.

I’m seeing him get better and better at coaching every week. His decision making has taken huge strides.

Somewhere in the middle of the third quarter, I started to wonder what this ND team would look like against someone that is actually good. My glass half full side says it would look like week one against TAMU. This game started off somewhat slow, but you can see that UVA was not going to have the depth or stamina to remain in the moment. I suspect we could see something similar against Army. USC on the road concerns me, but that's one week from today's issue and not now.

Then I wonder how they'd stack up on a neutral field against a dangerous team full of talent like Alabama, UGA or Tennessee. In reality, nobody is really a surefire dominant team this year. Oregon is unbeaten, but they can absolutely be had on any given Saturday.

Truth is, I'm enjoying winning these games comfortably because we really haven't been used to that on a regular basis. Considering who they lost from last year, the injuries, etc. it all lines up to a really good season in spite of those obstacles with two regular season games left.

yep - there were some QB-planned runs that should have gone to either Love or Price.... some iffy penalties were called too on 1st down that really put the Irish in bad spots.

I'm expecting the D to be the difference in this next game. They need to do what they did against Navy x2.....

Supposedly they met with the refs and asked them if the play was okay before the game and they said yes
That’s what I can’t comprehend. This is common. And if the refs saw no issues with it before the game, why the penalty?

One of two reasons and neither is acceptable, but we already know our AD won't do shit about it, so here we are.

UVA covered the spread by half a point after a lot of big money came in on UVA +23 close to kickoff, ultimately pushing the line down to UVA +21.5.

Is that why there were three insane, monumental calls against ND? I don’t know. But there were two specific ones — the fake punt where one ref clearly talked the others into it and the obvious incompletion that was called a fumble + recovery — where I don’t really have an explanation besides the refs putting their finger on the scale.

ND needs their own officials. If conferences can have their own, so can we.

I’m tired of getting screwed week in and week out. It’s been this way for years.

It got all the way down to 20.5 15 minutes before kick when I luckily got it. Needs an investigation!

Do you know how much money comes in to move a line 2.5 points? Incompetence warrants its own review, the gambling aspect just adds to the need for it.
I can be told there were always voting irregularities and gambling seduced sports cheating. But boy it’s uncomfortable living in a world where both approaches the occums razor probability.

I'm at the point now where you can't tell me that the odds of this are zero.

It's just as bad in the NFL. I've thought for years that officials are on the cut. They know more than they pretend to IMO for sure

My guess is the ref that threw the flag was taking a dump when MF asked about it.

He was 22-33 with one sneaky int and a couple of TDs. At least 3 passes were dropped plus one pass of beauty that was called back but it showed his improvement. He should have been able to make a better touch pass for the TD.
His pass (while scrambling near the sideline) to Mitchell for the TD was as good as it gets. Earlier in the year, he probably doesn't complete that. .
