We have hit rock bottom and are swimming in ****. I cant say with certainty that ND will ever win a championship again. I am really depressed.

I can say with a lot of certainty that we won't even come close to a championship again.

What I meant by that was - we've probably, at worst , lost a footballing season - we could be back next year......- Declans family have lost him for good...... not really a comparison in my book....you judge yourself....

Irish lost to a smaller, less talented team. Period! As bad as this team needs a win the coach opted to "PASS the ball" while in field goal range, down by one. After berating player after player on national TV for the last 9 weeks, I feel he owns this one. I don't like his style or decision making to this point. I may change my mind if he wins out but I am not even counting on him being able to Army

This is even worse than last year. At least we had nice uniforms last year. This year's uniforms look like horse ****.

Well if Savon Huggins dad was watching, I bet ND just got scartch off the list.. Can't run the ball for crap. At least we still got a great kid in Hayes..

they might have got scartched off the list, but i'm guessing a loss with no good run game to speak of didn't make him not want to come to notre dame, so he's probably not SCRATCHED off the list.

i think we are more fundamentally sound this year than last, and not near as talented as last year.

Huh? I was talking in Huggin prospective. I was referring to his dad's comment.

My concern coming in was that my son is a downhill runner. So, what aspects of his game are they going to change or where do they see him in that offense

Obviously we can't sustain a run game, why bother coming..

I didn't know which thread to write in since they all are bad right now.

But I am not making excuses for this team just the truth. Pretty much the whole 1st string offense is hurt, even Floyd. No one knows if he is 100% even though he still plays his heart out.

The defense is not that good but they are not as bad as it is made out to believe. They actually held Tulsa to 13 points. Not too bad considering everyone says that Tulsa is a quick hitting offense. They made mistakes that helped ND but ND made more that helped Tulsa out. On both sides of the ball.

This team has potential and the so does the coaching staff. I really don't know who is more qualified than BK that doesn't already have a good job that they are content with having.

ND is a great place and everyone on this board would love to coach there. But not every coach feels the same everyone has their own agenda.

This is one year under a new coaching staff, everyone needs to be patient. I know thats how it has been for the last 20 years or so. But it's the truth, and ND has gone through a patch like this before with Nation Championships. '49-'66. 17 years in between, it has happened before and is happening now. But when they came out of that slump they came out with avengence

I guess my main point is, time will tell which direction ND will head, my view is up because they have no where else to go.

I will never jump ship for a team that is a one hit wonder.

Go IRISH!!!!

My dreams of this years season were, as always, high. My expectations were alot more realistic. With the tallent we lost, a new coach, new QB, new recievers (minus Floyd), and a new D setup, anyone who expected anything above a .500 season weren't being honest with the situation. Kelly still isn't running his offense due to the fact that our current personel won't allow that and we've had alot of critical injuries this year. There are NO EXCUSES for losses like Tulsa, MSU, or U of M. They all should have been wins, that is what champions are made of. But last time I checked we weren't current champions, nor did anyone predict that of us this year. I think our defense, offense, and special teams occasional brilliance, paired with our long desire as fans to see our program return to the top, has clouded some peoples vision of where we should be right now. Believe as you will, but we have a positive future. But thats exactly what it is, our future, not present.

I guess I didn't watch the same game. The game I watched had bigger, faster, more talented players lose to a bad team. Topped off with a bad play call that sealed the loss.

In defense of the call on that last pass, it was a 36 yd fg attempt into a pretty stiff and swirling wind. Tommy should have thrown the ball higher and deeper, but I thought overall he looked good.

Then let Hughes run it up the middle for 2-3 yards 1-2 times. This was a replay of the Spurrier boner.

Tommy played his heart out, made mistakes, Tulsa played their hearts out, going forward i think our only win will be army, 5-7 is a rebuilding kind of record, i guess need to pack it in and see what happens next year.

Way to stick your neck out on the line on that one.... Really?

As hard as it might be, I think we have to accept that Brian Kelly may not be the answer. I for one was blindsided by his absolutely dumbass decision at the end of a game that was a slam dunk win had he merely run the ball for one or two more plays before calling on our best field goal kicker ever to make a 30-36 yarder!!!! My four years (60-64) were the worst 4 years cumulatevely in ND history, with Hughie Devore, interim coach before Parsegian, but Devore never called a play that lame

Strangest numbness I've ever had. Sort of the opposite of Pink Floyd's tune. Uncomfortably numb. Like stinging needles. Weird. For once, I look forward to this season to be over so we can look forward to the next. My feelings are interspersed between anger, shock, and the feeling that with even getting advantageous calls, we still lost to an inferior opponent...

I need some meds. Anyone have a Xanax they could mail me? I have lots of vBucks I could pay out for trade.

sorry man, i took them all and washed them down with my last beer...no wait...thank god i still have more beer...next one's for you dude

Kind of depressing that this is my highest viewed thread :( well i guess by the time next season rolls around all the doomsayer fans will be gone. Or itll be like last year where theres a ton of hype and letdown. I think we should just remember NOT to do what we did this summer, going out and wildly justifying how "9-3 is easily attainable"

Just thought it might be easier to have all the venting in one thread then to have dozens all saying DOOM, im an eternal optimist, and whenever a new coach takes over, you should take year one with a grain of salt, as we all know, year one a champion coach does not make.

Just silly.

Enlighten me as to how this is silly? He is the answer? You can't prove that either, so saying someone who thinks he isn't the answer is even more silly than his claim. Simply because you disagree with his perspective does not mean it's silly. To many people, you are the silly one, since you are claiming something outlandish which you have no proof of. I don't know if he is or isn't, but there sure as **** are reasons to be worried as a result of his decision making.

I understand the frustration.

It's silly to say that a man who has been here for 9 months isn't the answer. Especially with his track record. We have been bad. I get that. I agree.

There is no way to tell is Brian Kelly is the answer or not right now. If we were undefeated, I would think that it was silly to call Brian Kelly the answer (remember Ty?). We don't know yet.

I understand the frustration.

But doesn't his history as a College Football coach give you more reason to believe than not? I would say IrishJayhawk has more factual evidence backing him than anyone who calls for Coach Kelly's head.

Lets put it this way......

This program has become so mediocre that if/when the the BCS is re-contracted, there is NO WAY Notre Dame gets the same exemptions. ND will be forced to join a conference. And with the way things have gone for the past 15 years, WHO, and I mean logically, can even say that in a conference, this program IS merely a Wisconsin or a South Carolina, or an Arizona (point is a program that can potentially screw up REAL national contenders, and MAYBE make a BCS bowl every 10 years....)

I will always and forever be an Irish, and ONLY Irish CFB fan, but facts are facts, and this is the ONLY logically, reasonable inference that I can make......

I think the valuable question is, can Kelly be fired. Just a meditation on this week. Can Kelly be fired for the negligence of putting Declan up on the tower? I mean Tressel held a press conference that same morning saying he didnt want to endanger the camermens lives, and they were practicing inside. Not to mention Kelleys intolerable record, for some.
