Beginning to feel inevitable we end up in the Big 10. I don't see how Clemson, FSU, and Miami arent on the phone with the SEC right now.
If that happens there’s basically only two conferences. More likely we wind up with like a Big 48 in the end, of which Notre Dame would surely be one.

That's where it's headed. Two Super Conferences.

The interesting bit is that the ACC got its members to assign media rights as a poison pill. I think the conference has to go nuclear in order for this to happen.

EDIT: Checking, I now see that's only through 2026-27 school year which is not an insurmountable obstacle. I thought it was longer.

This is really going to put a lot of strain on The Alliance, peace treaty appears broken.

But seriously a tremendous back stabbing by Warren to Kliavkoff.

The Big 12 and apparently now Pac 12 have basically gone nuclear already. I'm not sure the grant-of-rights deal is gonna save the ACC if Clemson and FSU and Miami want out.

ND has so much leverage over the ACC right now that we probably could work out an insane deal. The conference will inevitably implode without our full membership IMO. Still not sure FSU Miami Clemson dont leave even with us.

Well, ESPN tried to peel off more membership from the Big 12. If it had lost some number of teams there would be no waiting period or buyouts for Oklahoma and Texas to join the SEC (whose network is partly owned by ESPN). The conference commissioner went after ESPN in the press and the remaining presidents made a pact to keep one another informed so they absorbed part of the AAC instead of leaving. So now the Big 12 is collecting revenue off Texas and Oklahoma for a couple of years and sharing exit fees.

I thought the grant of rights was through the mid 2030s?

Either way, reporters have said lawyers think it could be challenged in court, but more importantly, it doesn't matter if the ACC dies. The big schools let it be known they want out, ESPN might let it be known they would want to rework the TV deal for an even lower amount, and suddenly the remaining schools might also start looking around for a soft landing place.

That's what I thought. Perhaps it was renewed at some point? The article I found said 2026-7.

They’d be the only 2 schools in the Big 10 without wrestling programs. Good for wrestling?

I’d assume they’d go after a couple more schools to make it to 16. UW, Oregon, Miami, UNC, FSU. Two of those

i hate all this realignment its ruining college football imo. pretty soon you'll have only two conferences an east and a west.

No way this happens in a vacuum, there are definitely more dominoes to fall. To me, this seems part of an ACC/Big/PAC planned realignment. ND to a conference seems inevitable sooner rather than later.

Seems inevitable that there will be more poaching. And also that ND will have to join a conference

Donte is such a great prospect that his pending commitment to Oregon literally scared two schools out of the P12 lololol

IMO, ND to a conference when there are two megaconferences doesn't rally bother me. Why do we want independence? Because we get to play a variety of teams across the country and maintain our national rivalries. Well, the Big Ten would have USC and a second west coast team to get us out there every year and maintain one of our most important rivalries. The Big Ten also has other traditional rivals. If they manage to also add some teams from the Duke, UNC, Clemson, Miami, FSU grouping, we could also get games in the mid atlantic and south east.

Big Ten go ahead and add GT, UNC, and FSU. Then that makes it enticing for ND to join. That way I can watch the Irish in Iowa City once every ten years.

As soon as the stop calling it the Big Ten and start calling it Fox Conference ND will be fine with it

I could see the B1G grabbing a couple of schools out of the ACC. Pitt would be a logical choice, but right now there's no logic to this crap.
