SC landing two elite defenders from Oregon St. Safety Arnold and LB with the two last names who is Arnold brother or step brother.

Maybe that coach from N Dakota St will have some material to work with

Breaking - Malachi Nelson just entered the portal. He must have looked like ass if riley took the calculated risk of bringing Howard in.

Is Will Howard to USC confirmed? I thought I read he was going to visit Miami this week?

To be fair almost any QB in the sport would be a step back from Williams. I just kind of figured they'd go with someone who has higher upside, and given Riley's reputation, could get almost anyone they want. Howard is fine, but at this point he is what he is.
Howard would be fine at like Alabama who can win with a run of the mill game manager. USC can not. They couldn’t win with one of the better college QBs of the past decade. Riley is cooked.

It doesn't matter who USC brings in as QB with that awful O-Line they keep putting out there.

So USC is a bit screwed at QB even assuming they get Howard. No QB in the '22-'24 class now. Miller Moss is starting the bowl game and it sounds a bit like an Angeli situation where it may be an audition for him for other teams. There is real potential they only have Howard on the roster and will have to use the portal for backup QBs which is probably quite a difficult task for anyone of quality. You truly hate to see it.

Surprised they didn't give Malachi the reigns for their bowl. Or at least a promise of some playing time.

I think the fact that they didn’t is a strong indication that he’s not anywhere near the player he was ranked as. I enjoy piling on Riley as much as the next fan, but the dude knows qbs.

Their beat writer has a good write up on Nelson transferring on The athletic. Didn’t realize they don’t even have a qb committed for 2024. Obviously they can fill that need through the portal but it’s something

This is what I don't get. Riley is probably the greatest college QB developer of the last decade. Studs lined up to play for him at Oklahoma and one of them followed him to USC. And yet now they have so few options they have to settle for a one-year-rental who even we passed over?

If Riley wasn't already looking to parlay the SC job into an NFL gig sooner than later, I bet he is now.

Former 5 star, all-world CB Domani Jackson is now expected to transfer as well. The amount of talent USC has squandered is unmatched over the last decade.

Is this stuff just going to happen to every coach of a major program with a mild whiff of a hot seat? The boosters get stingy, the players who know they can play anywhere get antsy, and the lack of transfer restrictions mean that it will snowball rapidly.

Yup, positive momentum has never been more important. FUND will be insulated from fickle boosters, but at a school like Ole Miss, momentum created by kiffin is the only reason they are able to fundraise like this.

Tackett Curtis entering the portal. 40 tackles and 2 sacks as a true freshman. One of their defense’s few bright spots has left.

Riley must be leaving. That ship is taking on water at a Titanic rate

Riley has completely redone his defensive staff so there’s going to be attrition. If he’s leaving that would be a shitty thing to do especially to the coaches who resign from good jobs and then have the rug pulled out from under them.
Wouldn’t put it past Riley to do so but it’s also possible he’s hedging his bets and knows the NFL may say umm.. maybe next year

Curtis was an OSU lean at one point, correct? They only have one 2024 linebacker commit (Payton Pierce) so that would seem to make sense for both parties.

This is rampant speculation on my part, but if I'm Nelson, I probably asked Riley about his seemingly endless pursuit of merc QB transfers year in and year out, and probably asked for some assurances that wouldn't happen when the job opened after Caleb Williams moved on. (And before everyone starts in with the "these kids are entitled brats!", everyone wanted Nelson out of high school. He clearly would've had options elsewhere).

Then the Howard interest breaks, and you're standing there wondering whether Riley truly intends to honor that assurance, or if he'll just go after the next highly rated upperclassmen transfer year after year - which he's done seemingly every year since he's been a head coach.

Again, rampant speculation. But Nelson will find a home somewhere and have the opportunity to play right away, which is the normal expectation for five-star QBs these days.

Riley knows deep down he can't develop QBs. He has to take transfers to play over his 5 star recruits because he can't coach them up. Williams was the same QB he always was and will be a bust in the pros because he was never developed. Mayfield was a transfer. Murray was a transfer. Hurts was a transfer. Rattler and Williams are real Riley "projects" and one got ditched and the other was media hype like Zach Wilson.

I'm amazed that USC is able to land more than 10 recruits every year. It should be incredibly easy for every school to negative recruit against them. "Why are you going to USC? They'll get 2-3 transfers at your position every year and unless you're a Zachariah Branch talent, you won't last there."
