USC out, BYU in

Our schedule slowly turning to ass. And there’s buzz that the SEC will eventually weaken they’re out of conference and go to the lower tier games. Next year schedule is absolutely dog crap. We have to have better games for a NBC contract, we’re stuck in a bad spot.
I agree that we are facing an uphill battle but I'm not ready to give in. Win a title next year out of conference. Prove it can be done in spite of these fuckers. Then negotiate from a place of authority.

Unpopular, but as much as I would LOVE to stay independent (mainly due to all the money we get), I think we should join the Big 10 (or at least start an agreement with them). I miss playing Michigan, and I'm going to miss playing USC. Besides, I would LOVE to play Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa on the regular, instead of Wake Forest, Boston College, and the rest of the poverty ACC. New rivalries would definitely (and should) get started with Indiana and Ohio State.
Why? We just got done with an OSU home and home and already have Indiana and Michigan on future schedules, but we also have the flexibility where we also have Alabama, Florida, and Texas on future schedules as well. With the playoff most likely going to 16 teams as soon as next year, ND has never been in a better position as an independent than they are right now, no matter how shitty the playoff snub was. As displayed here, if teams like USC are too scared to schedule us, there are 135 other teams who are lining up to beg for a Notre Dame home and home on their schedules.

Or, Notre Dame reads the writing on the wall.

"We're independent!" is the weirdest thing to hang your hat on, as a program. Independent of what? Scheduling agreements with most of your historic rivals?

Everything that is wrong with the state of college football is because of conferences so I’m not sure why it’s not obvious why you wouldn’t want to be so if possible.

Or we don't give them the satisfaction, we win a title on our terms, then negotiate from higher ground. It's not about screaming "we're independent". It about sending a deeper message, heightening our demands, and not striking deals from a perceived lower position. You think we are going to hear the end of it either way? We cede to the industry that iced us out now after years of defending our integrity is just a weak move. It reeks of concession and undoes all that we have upheld in the face of external pressure. Win a title independently. Then talk.

We can get enough quality opponents to make the playoffs
only idiots think otherwise

and I consider it a mark of our superiority that some are trying to run from us like USC

I don't care whether we stay independent or not, but I'm pretty sure this is about USC, not us.
Exactly.

That won't stop ND haters and some ND fans from trying to blame it on ND.

This is how shit works now. Write the narrative regardless of facts and reality. Blame who you don't like for whatever the issue is.

I booked refundable flights to SLC and a Refundable hotel in provo.

I then proceeded to google BYU tailgating (i knew it would be bad) and weekend activities. The clear recommendation is to stay in SLC, hit up the bars there, then take train down.

I've already moved hotel to SLC.

The down voters would rather play G7 teams apparently.
No, respectfully, it's not that, pump. We deserve a revenge tour. We have earned the opportunity. Accomplish that. Let the dust settle. Then negotiate from a place of higher ground. We'll see it more clearly from that vantage point what works best for us. Not what works best for the Big Ten or any of these other conferences.

I live downtown SLC, it's.... fine. As far as bars, it really depends on what you are looking for.

Utah County is terrible if you are looking for non-wholesome fun. Bring your kids there or go into the mountains.

You booked flights and accommodations for a game that doesn't have a date set?

What percent of the Big Ten do you think BYU is weaker than? Auburn, Clemson were the most recent scheduling agreements prior to that.

I think if BYU has a decent team they are a top half B1G team.

Oct. 17th. I'm guessing this game needed to be set before B12 scheduling.

"The Cougars will welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, October 17, during the 2026 season. BYU will return to South Bend in 2027."

To be clear, this is the only report with a date.

Not sure, they are probably around USC/ iowa-ish. But hard to know. With that said, BYU for USC isn't that much of a difference from SOS perspective, but id rather the rest of the schedule be big ten than ACC.

So if they are at USCs level, how are they a G7 type team (derogatory I assume) but better than more the half of the Big Ten?

I literally said it was about the same SOS and my argument is with the rest of the schedule being G7( aka ACC).

Interesting. Both BYU and ND's press releases don't list a date.
