With all the debate about the current team and it's on field accomplishments (or lack thereof), as well as whether Charlie Weis is the man to lead us or just another hire & fire I thought we could use a little discussion about something else for a change. I would like to discuss Notre Dame's uniforms and where they stand currently versus other renditions we've had in the past. As the great Jerry Rice said, "When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you play good."

Personally, I like the classic clean cut look that we have going now. The only two things I would change are these:

1. I would bring back the interlocking "ND" on the sleeve (last seen in the Davie era). I would also bring back the green clover leaf with the interlocking "ND" on the pants, last seen during the same period.

2. I would permanently get rid of the green unis. Sorry, they do look pretty (especially in this day and age...the 70's version was rather ugly to be honest). But, it seems like every time we break 'em out, we lose in some painful fashion. I don't know...maybe we could hire a voodoo priest to come and take the hex off 'em or something, but for now, when we come out in them it's bad mojo.

*2a. One possible thing I would like to see resurface...at least I think I would...is the pride sticker. Personally, I think this is one of the coolest things in college football and not enough teams do it. Way back when, Notre Dame used to have pride stickers for the helmets (a blue star, of all things) but how cool would it be to have green shamrocks? I mean, I LOVE the classic plain gold helmet...it's iconic...but it could be cool with some stickers up on there. Thoughts?

FYI, CW hinted that the green jerseys might be worn this week for seniors' last home game.

I actually think it's good that the green jerseys might no longer be used as a motivational tool (especially since it hasn't worked in recent years). If the green jerseys become a senior day tradition, i like that much better.

and not the throwback puke green jerseys; the nice, new ones.

the other reason green might be worn this weekend is because it coincides with Green Week (as in environmental green), sponsored by NBC.

as for the stickers on the helmets, that i don't like.

the emblems on the jersey and pants i have no problem with.

Everything SoCal said. But just to re-enforce, NO helmet stickers.

The Green Jerseys use to mean something special. I say break them out for the Bowl Game.

Helmet stickers, no thanks.

I'm not sure I'd like the helmet stickers either...but I'd be at least willing to see it (in an off season, off the field setting so it's nothing official). I really like the sticker programs in general...especially the one that Georgia utilizes. They give a white bone for athletic plays of excellence and a black bone for academic excellence in the classroom. That'd be cool, especially since we'd have players with a bunch of both and not the disparity obvious on 'Dawg player helmets. :) BTW, we'd be talking about stickers applied by the students preparing the helmets...with no crazy patterns or ignorant stuff allowed. Uniform application so it looks nice.

Yeah, I knew we were wearing the greens this weekend. Don't get me wrong...I like them from a visual standpoint...they look nice. I just don't like the bad luck that seems to accompany them. I do agree, using them as a Senior Day tradition would be cool.

I'd also bring back either the green clover leaf or the Golden Dome patch at the v-neck point at the collar. That was a nice, small detail.

I like the look of the current uniforms. Nice and clean. I think the numbers on the sleeves might be required. Don't know for sure, but I seem to remember that they went from the logo to numbers because of some requirement by the NCAA. I could be wrong.

The look I want to see again - ala Chris Zorich - tucking the jersey up under the pads showing off the big ol' gut. That was a bad ass look!

I like the uniforms right now. I really like the interlocking ND on the neck. It's my favorite of all the logos. To me, it seems like the green clover seemed out of place on the blue and gold uniform.

I am all in for the small green shamrocks for excellance, but dont make them so big that the icon of college football ( helmet ) gets covered up, make it something that could only be attained by a big deal contribution, the teams that cover their helmets look BUSH, at one time Ara did this with small blue stars, its a way to show unity and excellance, good idea I'd like to see it

Gold unmarked helmet - except for the war-wound gashes. Navy blue unmarked shirt with identifying number. Gold unmarked pants.

Good solid and tested leather black shoes.I Kinda liike Adidas. All I wear.

Sock color optional. White or navy blue. Coach's choice and not up to team vote. ( Prefer short dark socks. Lets the legs breathe, and cheaper to wash - don't need whitener....)

Cut all bullshit and play football.

Cheerleaders should make an issue of fashion for themselves. Might make them look more attractive.

(Why are ND cheerleaders wearing blue and green? Where's the Gold?)

I think we should go back to the Wing T and Leather Helmets. Nothing like seeing the scowl of a bloodied up Irish player covered and mud, diving on a snowy field. Now that is tradition!!! GO Irish!!!

On a more serious note, I think interlocking ND would look good somewhere on the pants.

Navy ran a variation of it and almost beat ND.

This past game was a classic. Too bad no classic writer was willing...

When did fashion become more important to a man?

You metro...?

:)

Thanks for the fun my friend.

Ok to discuss the uniform, but the idea they would play better according to what they wear... LSU and Florida look like circus clowns and totally dominated winning national championships.

The only addition I would like to see is a bunch of grease or vaseline on every uniform, specifically uniforms in the backfield.

This did remind me of the worst ND uniform choice, evah! Those glow in the dark basketball uniforms they had awhile back.

looks pretty sweet maybe with green numbers and emblems and voila you got a new kickass uni.

The black looks pretty cool, but if you put the green numbers, it might look too much like Hawaii's uni. Plus, I would hate the comparisons to Purdue if we go to gold and black.

I believe ND had black replica's for sale last year with gold lettering. Didn't they?

They need to bring back the gold collar first and foremost IMO

That shit works. I had a QB tackled in the end zone for a safety and he slid right out. He shuffled off for a 103 yard TD run. True story.

I was so pissed that they "cheated" that next play I dove at his fucking kneecap.

Tried to give you reps for that last line, but I have to spread some around first. Laughed so loud I woke my wife sleeping in the next room! Then I farted.

Didn't like the white jerseys with the gold band on the side.

25 years ago the helmets had a better shine to them and so did the front of the pants...looked good. Don't like it when the helmets are not round and smooth. Some of the new helmet configurations have staggers in them.

White or Blue jersey. Gold pants
(no markings on pants) . Black or dark blue socks (kneehigh) (yes I grew up in the 70s) Even throw in the white ankle tape on the black cleats like Lou's teams. ND on the jersey (front below collar)
