Brian at mgoblog is perhaps the last realistic scUM fan over on that site. And for that I respect him. The rest of them are propaganda following zombies. They don't know why scUM will be good next year. But dammit they are scUM fans and they are gonna win it all next year...

good grief...

MGoBlog is a clinic in homerism.

Michigan has the most unrealistic fan base of any college program. It goes way beyond rooting for their team. Living in Michigan, and all but a couple of my friends U of M fans, this year I haven't heard one word about a single recruit/ commit. Ya

Say what you will, until we start knocking their heads and putting wins on 'em, there is no excuse. I hate 'em with a passion but regardless of words, wins is what puts you in the right.

...and I still say Muck Fichigan,

Time to put up or shut up boys, like many already said. If ND doesn't march into the Big House and own it this year, they have every right to say whatever they want about us.....

First off, some of you sound like UM fans the way you generalize their fan base the way you do and the way bag on them personally, and you sound like SC fans the you rip on living in Michigan (as if living in South Bend, WHICH IS 5 MINUTES FROM MICHIGAN) is soooo much different. I have family in Michigan and they love it there. I have family in SOuth Bend and they love it there. I have family out here in CA in they love it here. To each his own.

As far as them having an overinflated sense of themselves and how good they are....ummmm, have you read our predictions threads the past 3 years??? Lots of guys predicting BCS games, 12-0 seasons, 11-1 seasons, 10-2 seasons, etc. Guys get killed for saying we'd go 8-4 LOL. And guess what, we haven't sniffed any of the above the past 3 years. Not even close. So we're in the same boat as they are.

And finally, you know why they can talk smack??? Because they beat us 2 years in a row! We beat SC, so we can finally talk smack. And believe me, I do! (ND 20 USC 16 is STILL on my whiteboard in my classroom as we speak.) Seriously, we're in a better spot than Michigan right now, but they can still talk crap if they want because they beat us twice in a row (and yes, I'll go to my grave knowing the refs screwed us 2 yrs ago and last year we win if Crist stays healthy).

Now, they may be pricks and what-not, but I'm just saying, how about a little perspective here? Talk crap about them all you want, but seriously, we need to look in the mirror a bit, no?

Have you ever been to a game @Michigan and seen the way their fans behave versus our fans to visitors? Have you read their message boards?

I respect the hell out of you NDinLA... but it's really night and day the way their fans act versus people on this board. Their fans vs. NDNation is closer... but still not on the same level of delusion or a-hole-ness. But when I "look in the mirror" I can safely say I am a lot more reasonable, objective and informed than UM fans. I think the vast majority of people on this site would have the same self-analysis.

Agreed about their gameday fans. Our delusion may be unrivaled, tho. We're SUPPOSED to be smart.

You took the words out of my mouth. Brady Joke sux also!

I don't know if i would start bashing the new coach. I think he might be able to get the program up and running with better talent then at SDSU. He could be another Brian kelly.

Enough with the "If Christ is healthy we beat Michigan" crap on this board!!!

If your coaching staff had done a better job coaching up the backups, maybe you would have won...

If Troy Woolfolk, Michigan's best DB, didn't get hurt before the season, perhaps it wouldn't have mattered who was playing QB for ND...

Lack of a competent backup QB is a TEAM weakness. When Denard Robinson went out of games, Michigan had a competent backup and the offense was still effective.

Every team suffers injuries. God knows Michigan had more than its share this year. But real men don't use it as an excuse...

Woolfolk is only a decent CB. He would've barely helped.

It makes a difference when the backup QBs have no experience...at all.

Point well taken. His name is Crist.

What happens if Barkley plays in LA? Hoepfully its a moot point this year. Crist, Rees, Hendrix, Golson. Pick your poison Skunkbears.

This is much like the conversation about Mark May and some other pundits. He's pretty obnoxious, but he has been right about our program for the last several years. Michigan is down, but they still beat us. Actually, the worst ESPN analyst for predicting Notre Dame football has been Lou Holtz.

I'm with BGIF, N.D.inLA, etc. We need to beat Michigan in order to be able to talk. I believe this recruiting class went a long way to doing just that.

About our recruiting class. The fans are wondering how we can recruit so much better then them when UM beats ND every year? The responses range from "who cares, ND is the king of doing more with less". "It doesn't matter how well they recruit, we own them". "ND will never be UM" "Star rating get inflated once they commit to ND".

They also refuse to admit the possibility that the 2010 game's outcome may have been different if DC played the whole game.

I hope ND runs of 10 in a row against UM, and Brady Hoke.

I have had to eat crow these last few years and sing Victors at our family Christmas party. They are all UM fans. The sad thing is that we lost to probably 2 of the worst UM defenses of all time. You can say Crist this, and game plan that, the fact is we lost. We let Forcier beat us at the BigHouse 2 years ago. All we can do is sit here and take it, until we prove otherwise. I pray that it ends this year.

This post right here EXACTLY proves my point. Explain to me how when a coach takes over a team with one scholarship QB on the roster and is installing a new offense he can be expected to turn a true freshman into a competent starter by week 2?

It's not an "excuse" it's a reason. The single most logical analytic conclusion on why Michigan won that game was that we had no depth behind DC when he got hurt. With DC we dominated, without DC you dominated. How hard is that to grasp?

If you can't see that your team was getting beat like a rented drum with Crist in you are, simply, part of the 80% of Michigan fans who are annoying and unrealistic.

My problem isn't that they believe they are going to do well next year, all fans, nomatter what circumstances, believe their team will do well.

My problem with them is the way they start unprovoked attacks on ND. For example; I read a thread talking about how ND cannot develop recruits, we have no depth, how we lost half our team after 2010, how ND recruits get their stars inflated..etc. I offer a non-attacking rebuttal, and they freak out attacking me. I'll say well ND has a new coach who can develop talent, there is not a disease in the water preventing players from growing; we do have depth...look at our depth chart, we return a ton of players...look at our roster, and ND's recruits stars did not change after they were committed to ND.

I get; "your team sucks", "you suck", "UM owns ND", "ND wants to be UM", "everyone knows ND gets media favoring" "ND poaches coaches, and have no class. UM did it the right way, waited til mid January to hire a coach" UM's 3*'s are all diamonds in the rough"

Also, the same people who were freaking out that Les Miles/Harby didn't come to UM, and predicted the death of the program upon the hire of Hoke, have done a complete 180. "Hoke was our first choice", "we have the athletes to win 10 right now, there will be a easy transition" "We can count ND as a win, they won't win more then 7 in 2011" "we will beat tOSU this year"

It's absurd. We thought our defense was in bad shape at the end of 09? UM has walk-ons, and literally NO depth. They are undersized, and will get blown off the ball.

A tOSU poster said it best. "What has changed? You're team is still loaded with fast smurfs, and hobbits. These are still going to be the players running your new 3-4"

I'm not talking about how their fans behave (I live out here so I don't deal with them much - I went to the UM game when we beat them in the pouring rain, but they were subdues b/c they knew they were bad), I'm talking about us. We are delusional too. We'ce pretty much sucked for 4 straight years, and they've beaten us 3 out of those 4 years. And ripping the fact that they live in Michigan, IMO, isn't cool, considering that some people love it there, and that SB is only a stone's throw away from MI.

What I don't get is us acting like UM fans on this thread. All due respect, you did it too (you admitted that you went overboard). Look, I'm all for ripping on our rivals (I do it too, and it's fun!), but my 2 opinions are:

1. Don't act like the guys you are ripping

2. Don't be shocked by their smack talk when in fact they beat us twice in a row, and many of our fans are either just as delusional or major league pricks (see: NDNation.com).

That's all I'm saying.

Oh, and the UM fan on here can stick it...comparing losing a QB to a DB is laughable. Child please...

Which game was it that Tate lead the offense to a victory after Denard went out....?

It wasn't against State or Wisco...

To be fair, their defense has quite a lot of talent returning.

First things first, that awful secondary returns pretty much everybody, including the aforementioned Troy Woolfolk, their best CB, from an ankle injury that sidelined him this season. J.T. Floyd, Ray Vinopal, Courtney Avery, Cullen Christian, etc. All back. All having taken their bumps and bruises. They won't be good, but they'll be much better. We will not be able to pass at will. Luckily, we get them early on and perhaps we can catch them confused at the new defensive scheme.

The major losses are at LB. Jonas Mouton, Obi Ezeh, and Mark Moundros are all gone. Fortunately for them, they still have Kenny Demens (Jonas Gray's old teammate) who could become an excellent LB. Filling the holes at LB is the biggest challenge.

On DL, they return Mike Martin, a legitimate NFL prospect. Great NT. We handled him this year, but he's still a force in the middle. Also returning are Ryan VanBergen and Craig Roh, two decent DEs.

This is true. However, his response is..."scoreboard."

Would we have won? Maybe...quite possibly...maybe even probably. Doesn't matter. We didn't.

I think that will change in the next few years.

No one is saying ND would have won but the possibility of a different outcome is there. I admit, if Barkley played against ND vs SC...the outcome might have been different.

A better job coaching backups? It was week 2? Did you see our backup play the rest of the season? He developed fairly well.

If Trey Woolfolk didn't get hurt? If Jimmy Clausen didn't leave early it wouldn't have mattered who UM had behind center. A injury during the game is different then a injury a month before.

Real men also accept reality for what it is, not live in a delusional bubble in the land of smurfs and hobbits wearing maize and blue. ND lost to UM, things could have been different if we had our starting QB. ND beat SC, things could have been different if Barkley played.

Good luck next year. Your team is going to get embarrassed in it's first ever night game. Also, Knute Rockne is going to give Bo Schembechler a wedgie.

I wish i could say the same... I had a rather violent experience at the game in 2009. And this year I went to the scUM - UMass game (before driving to EL for the ND - State game) and I was getting harrased because i as wearing my ND hat... I hate that place...

We never blow out Michigan. Of our 15 wins in the series, only four have been by double digits (1943, 1987, 1998, and 2008).

Even in our big 35-17 win from 2008, Michigan turned the ball over 6-7 times and we got short fields on two of our scoring drives. Not to mention Brian Smith's fumble return for six, or the fact that Michigan outgained us by a lot.

Personally, I can't wait for both teams to return to form and we see those down-to-the-wire games that we saw year after year from around 1986 to 1999.
