It's going to be interesting to see how the Memphis Safe Task Force rollout (that is "Federalized") will work out.

- The whole kit and kaboodle of the Trump admin (minus Trump) attended the kick off meeting - Vance, Miller, Hegseth, and Bondi (The Four "MAGA-men of the Apocalypse," along with the TN Governor
- The Mayor Memphis did not participate - Called a Fed-State kick off meeting so not in his domain... Ah hello, it's his city! (not a good sign)
- 219 officers who were "special deputized" (per Bondi) for the Joint Operations Center - I wonder why?
--- Being federalized via this special deputization means they can pursue federal offenses allowing them to legally investigate and make arrests for federal crimes, not just state and local offenses
--- As "federal agents", they can legally pursue and arrest suspects across state lines without complicated procedural hurdles
--- Federalization allows local officers on task forces to access more powerful surveillance tools and tactics, allowing them to bypass more restrictive state and local regulations on these types of surveillance
--- Having federal authority can simplify the process of Federal agencies pursuing offenders across jurisdictions
--- Officers who are cross-deputized as federal agents may receive heightened legal protection; some federal task forces can use the doctrine of "qualified immunity" to protect officers from individual liability in civil lawsuits
--- The deputization gives the fedrealized officers the power to make arrests for federal crimes (i.e., Federal arrest and warrant authority)... Can you say Immigration enforcement?

My thoughts are that they are going to test and perfect (like Trump said yesterday, test things out on these cities) a Federalized approach to cracking down on major cities (esp. Blue ones), and will likely be brutal as they don't care about this city, and will brutalize it for practice.

Which of your actual rights are being infringed upon by troops going into cities to have presence to deter crime?
I don't think it's a perfect solution or love the idea, but people want the cities safe and military presence to deter crime is an idea. It would be better if we could fix the under-incarceration problem, but it's movement on his promises to fix crime.
