Obviously we can't say for certain what the scope of a war would be, but if we are to assume the most likely scope of a war with China (ie: Preventing China from closing off the SCS and taking Taiwan), we are going to face mass attrition and we will lose a lot of ships and planes if we're trying to project power into the weapons engagement zone. Our superior technology isn't what won us the protracted war against Japan, it was the fact that we made like ten times as many ships as they did. The Pacific was a foregone conclusion after Midway, and even if we had lost at Midway, we would have still been able to recapitalize our fleet in a year.No we won’t.
Now, our role with China is flipped, and we are at an even bigger disadvantage as China when you consider commercial shipbuilding and its ability to be quickly retooled to make combatants.
