No we won’t.
Obviously we can't say for certain what the scope of a war would be, but if we are to assume the most likely scope of a war with China (ie: Preventing China from closing off the SCS and taking Taiwan), we are going to face mass attrition and we will lose a lot of ships and planes if we're trying to project power into the weapons engagement zone. Our superior technology isn't what won us the protracted war against Japan, it was the fact that we made like ten times as many ships as they did. The Pacific was a foregone conclusion after Midway, and even if we had lost at Midway, we would have still been able to recapitalize our fleet in a year.

Now, our role with China is flipped, and we are at an even bigger disadvantage as China when you consider commercial shipbuilding and its ability to be quickly retooled to make combatants.

Why? Is it going to hurt someone’s feelings?

I tell my dipshit friends that voted for this idiot the same thing.

90% of the counties. That’s nice considering the population densities of most of those counties. A few percentage point difference in a handful of states and he’s not president.

Anyhow, lot of gullible morons out there.
My feelings are rarely hurt, but they're definitely never hurt because of words from strangers on the internet. If the Dems want to continue calling everyone morons and Nazis, you're all but guaranteeing another Republican win in 2028.

One could easily make the case that Biden voters from 2020 were gullible if they didn't believe the man was in mental decline.

I like our chances long term against a nation that can’t feed, power or sustain itself across any force projection while we surround it with allies and partners. But they do build shit boats quick, which is nice I suppose.

Energy drives prices. Trump was correct. Inflation down a lot since the fed screwed us starting in 21

We're 3 months in to Trump 2.0. Plenty of time between now and then. If the Dems repeat 2024 and trot out a candidate who is unrelatable and unelectable, it won't even matter.

Word salad Harris?
Tampon Tim?
Bartender AOC?
Newsom?
Whitmer?

GOP would be licking their chops for any of those opponents regardless of who the R candidate is.

I think they may start to be realizing their issue. Thought I saw an interview of one of the dems calling out the party and needing to change.

The dnc having an actual primary this go around should help as well. Not a lot of candidates are super great regardless.

Ha. Admitting the problem is one thing. Having a solution is another problem.

There isn't some moderate, popular Dem waiting in the wings for their turn. Names I listed above are Dem candidates for 2028 and each one would get embarrassed by any no name R on the right side.

You forgot Beshear and Shapiro. The biggest unknown is what trump and the Republicans continue to do over the next 3.5 years and how that influences the race. It's not like there's a super high approval rating for how they have been handling things, and as more time passes we'll see how it impacts everyone

We’re not gonna get into a hot war with China, they have nukes.

Anyhow, China has existed for a couple thousand years. Lot of hubris involved in assuming what is arguably the greatest civilization in human history will just simply roll over and wave a white flag when faced with a bit of adversity.

There has been civilization in China for a couple of thousand years. The PRC has existed for less than a hundred.

And to Bluto’s point… the number one stated goal of the PRC for decades has been the reunification of China and Taiwan by any means necessary. The Chinese people will have a stomach for a high attrition war over Taiwan way more than the American people do (and rightfully so). I just have hesitations over the true capability of our allies and partners to project force into the SCS in the way that we truly would need them to do to be a difference maker in conflict with China. The placement of munitions and personnel is great, but without a real ability to defend against land based hypersonic and ballistic missiles that China has, I’m not sure the regional partnerships that we have will move the needle in a decisive way.

Which is a continuation of Chinese culture.

The Yuan, Mongol and Qing dynasty’s were comprised in part or completely by what is essentially the same geographic region as the current PRC. With the Mongols ruling over large swaths of Eastern Europe, India and the Middle East as well.

The current Trump presidency has existed for a few months. The current iteration of the GOP a few years.

Yeah, he jumped right to record inflation. Bidenomics is so awesome!!!
A bunch of members of the GOP seem to think so.

“At least two thirds of the announced jobs were for projects in districts now represented by a Republican.”

“…data published on January 15, 2025 on Energy.gov documenting $300 billion in investments unleashed under Biden helps explain why some Republicans are pushing Johnson against a complete elimination of the IRA.”

Hmmm it’s almost like he and the previous president had to print a shit ton of cash to get us out of a global pandemic or something. I feel like I remember something about that.
I'm sorry, inflation is a good thing, it's transitory or something. Also, don't ask how we're paying for this Infrastructure project we're going to push out while the pandemic is still going, it's fine...it's taken care of. Brrrrrrrrt!

Neither are rockstars, and it won't matter if the people financing their campaign pushes them further left.

We're 3 months into Trump 2.0. Lonnnnnnng road between now and 2028.
