Many Presidents have talked about and wanted to implement tariffs, wonder why they didn't do what they said they would?
It's because they work. If they didn't, America would not have given the free money to all of the war torn countries since WWII.
History has no friends. Yet, people think they're smart. History has a way of eliminating the aggravator.

This is a stupid strawman argument. No one is against strategic targeted tariffs. No one complained when Trump tariffed specific sectors against China in his first presidency and no one complained when Biden kept most of those in place. The US has used strategic tariffs for a long time.
That is not what Trump did, nor the reason people are complaining. What he just did was like prescribing 20 rounds of intensive radiation therapy over every square inch of a patients body because they had a small cancerous mole removed from their shoulder.
Even if someone agreed with the idea that we should levy reciprocal tariffs on all other nations to counteract whatever tariffs they have against the US, that still would be as fucking stupid as what Trump and co did. They used ChatGPT to come up with a bullshit formula that is based off trade deficits not export tariffs. This is RETARDED. Anyone trying to justify this is either a MAGA simp or a moron.

Even the 2018 tariffs were bad, he tanked that year even with a booming economy. Trade wars are dumb as shit.

I work in economic development. If the Trump administration wanted to encourage more domestic manufacturing they would work with states and local governments to acquire acreage for megasites.
If you have 300 acres, you get attention. If you have 640 acres, you get a lot of attention. But in the midwest with the square mile grid, sites larger than that are rare. If the federal government threw money at creating ten 1,000-2,000+ acre sites with 5 MGD water/sewer capacity in every Midwestern state, they'd have companies tripping over themselves to build. Tariffs aren't going to solve that problem.
Biden's acts did a lot on the engineering side for public megaprojects by ensuring that federal money would be there over a ten-year period, but didn't do jack for site acquisition.

Hope while trump was hosting the Saudi's at his place he told them to sell all the land they own in CA and AZ which drains much needed water in the Southwest

I get what you're saying but I think you're off a little bit in this case. Everyone has been speculating on what the tariffs were going to be and if Trump was going to go thru with it. Once the tariffs were announced and placed on Wednesday, the markets then reacted. Yes we still have to see what the true economic implications of the tariffs are, but the market reaction is part of that.

These aren’t grass roots protests either. Saw where one protester said he was given his sign, then pulled out a paper that was passed out. It had all the answers on it if he was questioned on why he was there.

Yep, I have clients who are moving tons of capital into industrial real estate. Tons of great opportunities out there for repurposing. Biggest boom in their opinion is the 3PL space. I didn't realize how much the use of vertical space is important and not just the floor space, a lot of work is being done in North America to adopt a more "European" production style. It's going to take a bit of time but should provide better productivity returns.

Trump being a deep ecology/earth first plant sent to plunge the country back to subsistence farming and hunter gathering would actually make more sense than what’s going on now.
Best case scenario we’re back to an early 20th century world/economic order. What could go wrong with that?

Most countries have a tariff rate below 3.5%. Looking specifically at industrialized, western countries most countries have a tariff rate below 1.5%.
Trumps tariffs range from 10% to 50%, like on the very poor country of Lesotho. I would love for you to explain how exactly Lesotho -- which is too poor to buy anything from the United States, but is willing to sell to us in a way that only benefits US consumers -- is "ripping off" the United States. Be specific.

I haven't supported nor condemned Trump's tariffs. I don't know enough about them to have a strong opinion. That's why I asked you why other countries used them against us and what you thought we should do about it.

Ok so, to be very clear, no other country that could reasonably buy American goods has done anything close to the blanket tariffs that Trump just put in. So the bolded is a non-starter. Why do you think that is a true statement? Who told you that developed nations have blanket tariffs on the United States approaching 50%? Who are these countries weaponizing giant blanket tariffs against us, be specific.
It is commonplace to have targeted tariffs at specific goods or industries of national interest. I -- and anyone with a brain -- supports judicious use of such tariffs, I have said as much going back to the election. That does NOT mean massive import taxes on goods / materials / foods that we don't have here. All that accomplishes is needless inflation and tanking the economy.
