The "point" is clear. This forced "appointment" is THE only way that our Admin can wiggle off the hook of big boots on the ground. Surgical decapitation with replacement by an in-place threatenable stooge. This is classic Alexander the Great conquering policy. Kick-ass, kill a few, and reappoint everyone under threat-of-death orders. You cream off profits/taxes while they continue to do the work.

I SOOOO wish this Venezuela thing would've happened under Biden or Obama and then it would've been considered a righteous removal of an evil tyrant and the US rescuing poor oppressed brown people and bringing them democracy and a better life... and then they'd win a Nobel Peace Prize for saving the world.

what says the US didn’t have a plan? Just because the vice steps in as an interim doesn’t mean they don’t have a plan. Did you expect a PowerPoint from HR on the process going forward? If she’s still there a year from now, this is different. It’s been a few days. Elections aren’t that quick.

My assumption is that the US is negotiating with the current regime on next steps. Hard to argue next steps before you sweep in and capture Maduro.

I think the thought is that it does help us.
I asked AI for three reasons it helps us-
Greenland's strategic Arctic location would allow the US to control the GIUK Gap, monitor Russian and Chinese activities, and strengthen North American missile defense.
U.S. ownership would secure access to Greenland's vast rare earth minerals, reducing dependence on China for critical resources vital to technology and national security.
Control of Greenland would position the US to dominate emerging Arctic shipping routes, enhancing economic influence and military projection as ice melts.
I recall seeing articles about why not utilizing Greenland would be a huge security risk for a conflict with Russia.

As a pediatrician, I certainly am overall a leftie. However, when it comes to defense and the military, I probably fall more center-right and despite my staunch disapproval of Trump and his administration so far, I’m never too blinded to recognize a success when I see one. Going in and capturing Maduro was one of those successes.
The operation was well planned and well executed. It removed an illegitimate dictator from power who also used his position to directly hurt the United States. When a situation like this presents itself, we should absolutely use our military and capabilities to tactically hold them accountable like that. Where Venezuela ends up remains to be seen, and it could obviously end up poorly, but as of right now this provides a good opportunity for improvement in that country and for the US.
If however, this was some sort of trial run for a Greenland takeover with the military, I don’t see how that can be supported. While Drayer, you are absolutely right that the land provides benefits to the US, why is it morally or pragmatically acceptable to obtain it, by force, when it is already owned by a peaceful sovereign nation, especially one of our allies?

I don’t think they want to take it by force. Forecfully taking allied land is a pretty wild territory, but working to get a sale is not crazy. I think they believe that land is critical for defense going forward and are aggressively trying to get an allied nation to recognize they don’t have the resources to maintain their land and do what is needed.
