Who do people like and why?

Front runners right now seem to be...
-DeSantis
-Pence
-Haley
-Ramaswamy
-Scott

No one else polling above 2%.

DeSantis: Largest national profile, aggressive on cultural issues, executive leadership experience in a booming state.

Pence: Religious conservative candidate, low energy, professional.

Haley: Below the surface is probably the most "presidential" candidate but has not done well building her brand due to inconsistent messaging.

Ramaswamy: To me he seems like a lightweight and an attention seeking clown but he is somehow polling around 3%-4%.

Scott: Remains to be seen whether he has national appeal, but he has the fewest skeletons in the closet of any candidate.

Any sleepers out there that could shake things up?

Asa Hutchinson, former Governor of Arkansas has thrown his hat in as well. He has a pretty decorated resume.

I’ve stated before that I’m not a big fan of Pence, but at this juncture I’m beginning to think he’d be the best candidate. Handled being VP about as well as could be expected and never caved to Trump. Experience as a governor and congressman, so he’s got experience working out deals. Doubt you’d find any skeletons so the only thing to go after is he’s religious.

No one of true worth is gonna run. Politics with the influence of social media has gotten even dirty then it used to be.

Politics used to be about what you could do for the people and how you could do it. The last 4 or 5 elections it’s about bashing the other candidates. I don’t care if you think trump, Biden, or whoever else is a worthless piece of shit get up there and tell me what your ideas are to fix things.

I think this country is unfixable at the current moment.

DeSantis has my money. He understands he has to attack Trump and has a record of things I appreciate. He’s great on the stage and a guy that I think is both a good candidate and would be a good POTUS. He’s my #1.

Pence would be a good POTUS, but I’m nervous about him as a candidate. I think he was a great VP. I recognize some Republicans won’t vote for him because he… did the right thing, but prob not a knockout for the top of the ticket. NW Iowa is the kind of place Pence could chip away at Trump’s votes, if he has the brass to go after Trump.

Haley- Prob going to be liked at the debates, but not serious if not attacking Trump. The “Trump without the tweets” idea isn’t serious.

Scott- Prob a great Veep pick. Nicest guy in politics. Prob too nice. People want offense and anger in the aftermath of Joe Biden.

Ramaswamy- He will promise the world to the no Compromise crowd that never wins, but not serious. He defends Trump, a sign he isn’t serious.

They all should sound like this.

Desantis issue is going to be getting a win in the 1st three states. Pence and Scott are standing in the Evangelical lane and Ramaswamy grabs the non Trump populists in Iowa. Trump might win w 30 to 40%.

Evangelical/Religious stuff doesn't play well in NH. Trump probably takes it.

Then in Scar you have Scott and Haley grabbing the local vote.

If DeSantis can't win one of the 1st three he's probably toast. If he wins Iowa I'd bet the big donors force the Scar natives out and DeSantis has a fighting chance.

I think the real issue DeSantis has is that he's a Scott Walker Ted Cruz hybrid. I think he flails in the primary debate.

Desantis - best resume, most qualified and lines up well on issues important to me. Probably not enough charisma to overcome the machine in the general.

Pence - most punchable face in the field. Such a douche-trying-to-look-the-part feel about him and way too socially conservative.

Haley - Pretty well exposed as an establishment hack at this point. At least she was a governor which I think should be a top qualifier for candidates.

Ramaswamy - Definitely would be the most interesting Joe Rogan guest of the lot by a large margin. Seems to have some good instincts and likeable guy.

Tim Scott - Close second to Ramaswamy as far as candidates I would enjoy having a beer with. One of the few politicians I would consider a genuinely nice guy. I hate Senators as presidents, don't understand why people think that qualifies them for the executive branch but I could get behind him quite easily if he gets some traction. Love his America is still the land of opportunity message but probably not willing/able to get dirty enough to win.

Regarding charisma, keep in mind that Biden isn't exactly Mr. Charisma and he defeated an incumbent pretty convincingly.

Appears Birthright Citizenship is not the norm world wide and appears to primarily be a western hemisphere thing.

according to nationality laws tracked by GLOBALCIT. Among the 174 countries with nationality laws data available for 2016, 39 of them, or about 1 in 4, grant citizenship to people born in the country, barring exceptions to children of diplomat parents. It’s the most common practice for the countries in the Americas: Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, among others, all follow this practice.

DeSantis is the clear choice for the time being.

Oddly enough, Burgum would probably be the type of candidate that would most easily cruise to an easy win in the general and (barring something weird) re-election.
