Yeah now that I think about it I'm not sure we need a transfer. Lenzy, Davis, Wilkins, Styles, Colzie, Thomas and then you have Merriweather coming in. Not to mention I think you are going to see Chris Tyree and Jadarian Price play in the slot some as well with two running back sets and Mayer is going to get targeted a lot.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think we need a WR from the transfer portal. I am not basing what we saw in the B&G game, put that game in the books & move on. I like that Colzie was targeted as much as he was, but the passes that were thrown to him were not his fault. I like the mix of our young and veteran WR's, what Tyree and Price can do as added weapons, Merriweather will be a big welcome & should see the field, and I think ND will have one of the best TE's in the country.
I'm not concerned with the collective talent of our current WR room, but like NDFAN said, we are an injury or two away from a scary situation at the position. There's just not a lot of depth there right now and that's including two guys who are trying to return from season ending injuries (Wilkins and Davis). One or two guys go down, we're looking at walk-ons in the 5 deep on the depth chart...

Can't see them getting more than 1 scholarship WR in the portal, but even that wouldn't be too optimistic about from a numbers perspective. Maybe we get that JHU PWO transfer that is friends with Brandon Joseph.

Can confirm and also that seems really odd to me
It would be pretty dumb to not take a transfer WR that is otherwise a take because nobody's leaving. It never happens. Somebody always leaves. Always, and more than one. Thinking "its different this time" because Marcus Freeman is coach is naive, at best.
In addition to all the usual reasons people leave there's now NIL, So guys might leave because they can get more money somewhere else. You know that's going to happen.

SIAP… Harrison Leonard has entered the portal. I think this creates an opportunity for us.

In the short term I am.

Anything that shakes up Bama and the usual suspects' stranglehold on natty's is welcome for a few years.

I would rather see Bama to continue to win over and over again instead of seeing college players getting paid millions of dollars. This will ruin the sport. With these kids getting everything they need for the university from schooling (lol who am I kidding) to traveling, health care, apparel, being developed and the university helping the. This should have been capped to about 25k a year. That’s more than fair considering the salaries they would be paid in the workforce.

They play college football for free, go to school for free, they get developed by good coaches for free, travel and play on some of the biggest stages in the world for free and earn a min of 75k if they stay for 3 years.

I hope this NIL deal blows up big and destroys the NCAA administration

75% of the NIL problem is fixed if you address the transfer portal which is the much easier fix in the short term.

Deal with the glorified bag men paying 16 year olds later.

I actually think ND would fare quite well in the NIL era under the old transfer rules.

College football is turning into who is going to give me the best job offer because of NIL. I want a kid who wants to win & play for the right reasons and isn't about a mouthful of takes and a handful of give me's.

So if someone offered you $3 million compared to your current deal of $300K, you’d turn it down? Especially when it’s to a place you’d probably win more, and as it stands now it’s above board?

Can’t blame these kids. That much money is life changing regardless of what happens the rest of their career. Blame the NCAA for ruining it.

I don't think anybody is blaming the kids. Definitely the NCAA at fault. Problem is if schools like ND don't join the crowd we'll fall way behind

Sucks he's headed to SC, but until SC starts buying some defense I don't think it really matters.

Yeah I would pass up $3 million to continue working for $300k...

I bet some kids make more playing college football than playing professionally; not blaming the kids on that statement.

I do blame the NCAA for ruining it.
