QB Charlie Brewer of Baylor enters portal.

Not a superstar by any means but he's played a ton of football.

According to reports FSU has serious money problems. So it’s going to be small cars, cheap hookers, and little or no blow.

I wanted to say go after Ridder, but I couldn't see him leaving UC.

For one, are we really sure Fickell is going anywhere this year? He's apparently a leading candidate for the Illinois job, but...who are we kidding? Illinois is not an upgrade over Cincinnati, power 5 be damned. Illinois has been a Big Ten doormat since Juice Williams left the program.

Maybe if Fickell leaves, but if not, I think he'd want to take another year at Cincy, where he has continuity and knows the offense. But who knows, really?

I mentioned it previously just as a daydream as an ND/UC fan.

He has no reason to leave UC, even if Fickell were to move on. Denbrock would have a good shot at the HC job at UC, which would be good for Ridder.

The only way it makes sense for him to leave UC for any reason is if Fickell leaves and a totally new staff comes in, or if he's been told more exposure at a Power 5 school will get him an NFL look... either case seems unlikely.

That’s one I would be on board with... I remember his recruitment and thought we had a good chance right around NSD. He’s from Center Grove in Greenwood, not too far away from me, so I was rooting for him to succeed at UL

ND should finally pull the "go after a transfer and help him get immediate eligibility like Ohio State would" card

All players (who want to transfer) are immediately/automatically eligible for all sports right now IIRC (if I read it right).

Even BB players on other team playing now, could transfer tomorrow, and play as early as next week. It says all sports, but not sure about the specifics with FB (most articles I've seen are slanted BB).

I thought that was Spring sports only, since they were the first group to get screwed. I figured the NCAA waited to take action until after basketball had started to help stem the tide of guys moving freely once they passed the resolution.

However, if it includes football...

For real on Gunnell, though: he's going to be a junior. Idk if you take a guy that could block Buchner for two years. You want a one-year mercenary that will allow you to get Buchner ready for '22 in whatever way that may be... sprinkling him in, ala Lawrence/Bryant at Clemson, or keeping him shelved and taking mental reps (unless you have 1-4 blowouts to put him in).

I'm uber interested in what a guy like Jamie Newman does. Haven't seen any news on him going to the NFL, staying at UGA, or doing something different. He's be a fantastic pickup.

Nah, the next step in the maturation of OC Tommy Rees is the "Out for Blood" protocol, where BK tells him they are obligated to score 70+ in any potential blowout situation.

Players need to be wary b/c when all is said & done there will be approx 1000 kids in the transfer portal. Some will be left holding the bag or settling for FCS options.

This will also affect 2022 seniors as some teams may not take the entire 25 due to transfers etc. Yes they can be over the limit next year but they are expected to be back to 85 in 2023. If I’m a 2022 kid w/ an offer that I like, I would accept ASAP.

Here’s the Pete Thamel article that documents all the challenges the next few years will pose for universities.

I know he opted out, but rumor is, it was because of the competition at UGA wasn't going how he thought. He transferred there to help his stock, and because of the guys projected before him last year. Now he's mocked mostly in the 3rd and 4th rounds IIRC, which is worse than a year ago. Another year would help him IMO>

Having someone like Gunnell in 22 would be ideal. The lack of game reps and competition in HS makes me think it might take Buchner longer to be ready. Bring as much talent as possible to make him really earn the job.
