It's why I only golf in windy and rainy conditions. It's also why I golf with clubs that cost $250.Or he always needs to have an excuse for underperforming

Including Matt LaFleur in this coaching tree is like including Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez in my threesome tree* because they sat next to our table at Rocco's that one time. Will be interesting to see where his career goes from here. Noticed Mike Sanford Jr. isn't even coaching this year. His career took a nosedive after leaving ND. Matt LaFleur's took off. No idea what Tommy's plans are as far as NFL or HC jobs. Hopefully it's at a place less disgusting than Bama so I can actually root for him.
Well, nobody else noticed.Noticed Mike Sanford Jr. isn't even coaching this year.
I read that this was Saban’s first double-digit loss at home since 2003 LSU. Incredible stat. They’ll still have a 10-win season
Wasn’t making it about any coaching tree. More about the different directions young coach’s careers take. Lots of young “offensive geniuses” flame out, some end up successful long term. Rees is TBD.Including Matt LaFleur in this coaching tree is like including Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez in my threesome tree* because they sat next to our table at Rocco's that one time.
*this tree has no branches
I had to look that up in the urban dictionary... 😂Count Chocula.
It’s like anything else. Many many people in all lines of work get promotions/new jobs because they’re good at their previous job, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be good at the next one.Wasn’t making it about any coaching tree. They marry independent women who can take care of things.Well, nobody else noticed.
I completely lost track of him after WKU fired him. I just went and looked him up. Talk about a guy who has done a lifetime of bouncing around already. He's 41 years old. To only get two years at WKU, I wonder if there is more to the story than just wins and losses. That just seems like a really quick trigger for what they knew was a first time HC who was very young.
I don't know if I'm the majority or not, but once these coaches leave ND, I lose complete interest. I guess BK and TR are in pretty high profile places that I at least see results, but this profession simply doesn't lend itself to allowing me to get attached to these guys on any level. I don't know how the guys with families do it with the constant moving around.
He may be better at being a head coach /play caller than OC / Qb coach. It’s like anything else. Many many people in all lines of work get promotions/new jobs because they’re good at their previous job, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be good at the next one.
Then there’s the intense pressure/spotlight/demands that comes with being a head coach instead of a coordinator. It’s a very different job, and not every good coordinator is the right fit for it (ahem, Diaco).
Much respect for the coaches who know what they’re good at and find ways to grow within that lane. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Rees is an OC his whole career, and that’s fine.
Up 24-7 going into the 4th quarter the defense surrendered 28 points. Tommy played well enough to win in the Big House. That loss was on Diaco.
You have no idea how good our record could have been with a good QB. We had some one season over and under achievers under Kelly but as noted no playoff caliber QB. Kizer was better than expected one season and Golson flashed in some games. Hendrix and Crist stunk. Tommy was at the right place at the right time and was the lesser of all evils or the best of a sorry ass bunch. I will say he exceeded his ceiling and was a smart QB who knew how to avoid sacks by throwing the ball out of bounds. Sometimes a bit early. For a semi undersized guy he sure was slow. I appreciate his first years efforts. Wins against USC and Miami in the bowl are enough for a soft thumbs up. Like many if not all Kelly QBs he did not get better. He was blessed with a good Oline and many quality receiving options. I still say he owes Kelly a debt of gratitude for giving him his QB and coaching opportunities. I’m just thrown off by the pundits praise of him being a wunderkind when it comes to Playcalling. Stanford and Marshall game and second half of Ok St and pick 6 at goal line against in Bowl game should have sunk that ship. With that said if he balls and succeeds at Bama especially if Buchner becomes QB more power to him!Yeah, I saw when noodle arm had us poised to beat USC in 2011, he got dinged up briefly for a play and Crist fumbled away our chance to win. Same thing happened against South Florida too.
I saw when Rees got knocked out of the USC game in 2013 too after getting us the lead, and Hendrix came in and went 0/4 and ran 6 times for 5 yards. It's amazing the defense was able to hold out the 2nd half and preserve the win Tommy built.
I saw when Rees helped bail Golson out in 2012 against Purdue and helped us win in overtime against Stanford.
Yeah, Rees sucked so much he was the only QB to beat Michigan State in 2013.
I remember Rees was so bad he scored the only TD in the 2012 game against Michigan...with his feet.
You have no idea how bad our record would have been if Tommy had really stunk up the field like our backups did. You should thank Rees for that and a lot more. The offense we're enjoying today doesn't happen without his recruiting and efforts.
Was that the Gary Gray boner game?I said it took a miracle to lose.
No phantom fumble, no miracle loss.
I'll never get over it.
That cereal is terrible man! Quisp!I used italic font, Count Chocula.

Yeah. Was that the Gary Gray boner game?
Whoa, that was a deep pull!Tommy reminds me of the character, Big Head, from Silicon Valley. Hasn't accomplished anything, yet he keeps getting promoted. Everyone regards him him as a boy genius OC, but what has he won that is of significance as a player or coach? What QB has he developed that got drafted? It gets quiet in the room when you ask these questions.
I'm glad he left (to avoid having to fire a former player and alumnus) and I wish him the best.
Thanks for those wise words. I will remember them the next time I build my own clubs. It’s a poor carpenter who blames his tools
30 seconds left and Denard runs around like crazy. Other than that okay Gray was a decent CB. Very sad. Wasn’t it next year we cleaned their clock 38-0?Yeah.
You can cut the shafts down and regrip them. I’m guessing you’re a slicer so so the head in a closed configuration. Good luck after that! Thanks for those wise words. I will remember them the next time I build my own clubs.

So no adjustments after 35 points in first half against OK st and even Navy = wunderkind OC? No, if Kelly is there to slap him around we win Marshall game, Stanford and Ok St. I blame Ohio State game on Patterson being out and and Buchner being a one dimensional QB. Basically Andrew Hendrix 2.0. Tommy was ok as OC but not worthy of the praise outside of ND circles. I look forward to he and Kelly locking horns. You're right, I don't know how good our record could have been with a great QB. But we didn't have a great QB, Tommy was the best we had and it could have been even worse if he wasn't in place. Is it Tommy's fault he was the best we had to offer at the time? It seems silly to throw the guy under the bus for actually playing at or, at times, above his 3 star rating. A lot of 4 and 5 star guys get little to no criticism for failing to reach their potential, seems silly to attack the guy that gave his all while fans were booing him.
The Marshall games stunk, there was no question about it. Being -3 in turnovers against any team is a recipe for disaster, especially when one results in a pick 6. Likewise we were -2 against Stanford in what was easily Pyne's worst game of the season. As an OC both games could have been called better, but our players have to execute as well. The Oklahoma State gameplan was pretty great actually until they figured out Austin and Lenzy can't beat press coverage. It's hard to get upset about 35 points scored in regulation against a very tough defense, not to mention a Fiesta Bowl offense record. Ok St's offense wasn't heralded going into that game, our defense dropped the ball giving up 37 in that one.
I didn't say wunderkind, but 35 points should have been enough against a mediocre offense (It was 28 points in the first half, with the last 7 coming on the final drive). Lenzy and Austin were completely shut down 2nd half until the final drive, they were useless. Styles and Mayer were the only receivers that really stepped up at all there. Given that Ok St took away our run game I'm not sure what else we could have done offensively, our hands were kinda tied. Could have put Pyne in and forced it to Mayer the rest of the game I guess? With no Avery Davis to take the top off the defense it was up to Austin and Lenzy to beat the tight coverage and they couldn't.So no adjustments after 35 points in first half against OK st and even Navy = wunderkind OC? No, if Kelly is there to slap him around we win Marshall game, Stanford and Ok St. I blame Ohio State game on Patterson being out and and Buchner being a one dimensional QB. There are plenty of these in society that don't move every 12 months. They marry independent women who can take care of things.
